Iran Rattles Its Sabres Again: If We Feel Threatened, We’ll Strike First

Iran ratcheted up its sabre-rattling on Tuesday when one of its officials warned a preemptive strike against its enemies is possible.

“Our strategy now is that if we feel our enemies want to endanger Iran’s national interests, and want to decide to do that, we will act without waiting for their actions,” Mohammad Hejazi told the Fars news agency, according to MSNBC. Hejazi is the deputy head of the Islamic Republic’s armed forces.

That comes as a U.N. team visiting Iran has no plans to inspect the country’s nuclear facilities and as the country announced air defense war games to practice protecting nuclear and other sensitive sites, the latest in a series of military maneuvers viewed as a message to the West that Iran is prepared both to defend itself against an armed strike and to retaliate.

The U.S. and Israel have not ruled out military action against Iran’s nuclear program.

The official news agency IRNA said the four-day air defense war games, dubbed “Sarallah,“ or ”God’s Revenge,” were taking place in the south of the country and involve anti-aircraft batteries, radar, and warplanes. The drill will be held over 73,000 square miles (190,000 square kilometers) near the port of Bushehr, the site of Iran’s lone nuclear power plant.

Iran has held multiple air, land, and sea maneuvers in recent months as the tensions increase.

Iran has also docked two warships in Syria as a show of support for the brutal Assad regime.

      You do realize that Russia and China are supporting Iran right? That might explain why they’re helping. As for Europe, their governments tend to act when it will benefit their own country directly, an ideology you seem to support. America has no race, no established creed, no consistent cultural norms etc. and therefore doesn’t divide the world into Americans and Foreigners.

      Easy… Israel is not a Rogue State. You really need to read up on the British Mandate for Palestine. This did not setup a country of Palestine, but started the ball rolling for the region called Palestine (which it was part of the Ottoman Empire prior) to form a state. The High Commissioner, who was a civilian of the region recognized the Jewish leaders as part of the state, any and all Arab leaders refused to be part of the process of forming a state. This is because the Ottoman Empire had highly ANTI-Jewish & Christian laws. Both sects were seen as second class citizens by the Arabs, though they had lived amongst them for centuries.

      So, why do you support countries (or want to be countries) that wish to preserve the rights of only one class, the Muslims. Now please provide and intellectual comment to that.

    Iran’s Air Force consists of about 25 Mig-29s, their most capable craft; about 25 50 year old F-14s for which they have no source for spare parts; 10 F-1s courtesy of Iraq (who flew them to Iran so that the US could not destroy them in Air to Air combat and about 50 or so F-4 phantom Viet Nam war era planes. Most of their SAM system is also rather dated to include US built Hawk systems from the 1970s. Their air to air missiles date from the 70s and 80s. So it appears that in terms of conventional warfare Iran could not beat the Iraqi army of the 1980s, oh that‘s right they didn’t. So the real weapon continues to be proxies and terrorists.

      Iran is not a threat to anyone outside of the middle east. If Israel feels threatened they will take care of themselves. We need our troops to come home, we can rotate carriers around the world to maintain our presence. Who is going to act up with a carrier battle group near them. Those battle groups carry enough firepower to destroy most counties in the world by themselves.

      Reports have said we will have 100k in troops around Iran by March. We have 3 carrier battle groups there now. We can send B52s at any time that can arrive in less than a day.

      We are the aggressors here. If China or Russia did this to us we would be ticked off. Also remember, China(our banker), Russia, and Pakistan have all said they would support Iran if we attacked them. Why would we trade the risk of Iran getting one nuke to start a war with countries that have thousands?

      The article is reporting what the head of the Iranian military said about a first strike against their enemies (true). It reports Iran is conducting military maneuvers (true). It reports that the US & Israel have not ruled out military action (true – The Obama administration and Israel have said & are still saying exactly that). It references MSNBC’s reporting. It listed the AP as a contributing source. How is that “fear mongering”?

      Because the headline makes it appear as if Iran is the Aggressor which is simply not a truth. Look if there was real evidence that Iran was about to attack Israel then I’d consider supporting Congress in declaring for action against Iran. That’s simply not the case.

      The proverbial pre-emptive strike against Iraq cost us dearly. Cost us immense amount of blood and treasure and cost the innocent Iraqis exponentially more! Please tell me what that accomplished? Are we better off? Is Iraq better off? Is Iraq stable? Will Iraq be more stable in 2 years?

      At a minimum one would expect a cost benefit analysis then you’d begin to consider the loss of life. The decision to invade and occupy Iraq fails on every level. There was no justification whatsoever and it may be one of the most evil decisions made in modern times.

      A preemptive strike against Iran has even more serious consequences. Far more. It could possibly turn into a World War in a matter of weeks. FOX News nor the Blaze doesn’t tell you about the all risks.

      FOX, the Blaze, and the rest of the Media need to stop pounding the War drums.

      Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said on many occasions that Iran must destroy the little Satan and the big Satan.The Islamic Republic of Iran is ruled by clerics and devout Shi’ites who hate the West and is driven by an apocalyptic branch of Islam that believes its duty is to begin world war that brings the return of their Mahdi (messiah)—an Imam so powerful he will bring the world under Islamic rule. An atomic bomb is Iran’s war trigger. So this is America’s problem. The warning signs are all around us. All we have to do is open up our eyes and look at them.
      So you want us to do nothing and wait till Iran sends nukes across our unsecured borders and blows up a few of our cities?

      I saw that episode of Beck’s show. You don’ t have to recite it verbatim.

      1) Iran does not have nukes right now.
      2) Israel would strike them before they have nukes
      3) How much of Ahmadinejad is complete rhetoric? You really think the Ayatollah would want to do that considering he is one of the most powerful people in the world right now? He doesn‘t follow most of his religion’s tenants, why would he follow this one? He only uses his religion as vehicle for oppression I sincerely doubt he actually believes it. It defies all logic known to man.
      4) We have NO MONEY. We are in no position to do anything about it.
      5) Both Israel and us have missile defense shields. Even if they launch a nuke both of us could shoot it down safely.
      6) Iran is in no position to directly attack us in any way. It would be a logistical nightmare for them to try and attack us considering they have to go halfway across the world and would have to pass by allies in both directions
      7) It is not our job to fight Israel’s war.
      8) WE HAVE NO MONEY WE ARE 15 TRILLION IN DEBT. This is good enough to be on this list twice.
      9) THREE TIMES, WE HAVE NO MONEY AND ARE 15 TRILLION IN DEBT.
      10) If we attack Iran, China and Russia would join in and we are in no shape to be fighting them

      12) We have been pressuring Iran for decades and camping out troops along their boarders and water. They are lashing out because of the pressure we’re putting on them. I would fully except them to start fighting back once we have cornered them.

      I see “rattles sabers” as a common phrase used by the media for years. “If We Feel Threatened, We’ll Strike First” is essentially what Iran is saying.

      Do I know if there is factual information that justifies a military strike against Iran? No. Do I believe everything the government says? No. But they have information we don’t and can’t get. They are the ones who will make the decision. Unfortunately they never make a decision that isn’t influenced to some degree by ulterior motives.

      I’ve always had mixed thoughts about the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. Been trying for years to answer the same questions you ask. Honestly, I’m still looking for my answers. While I understand your statement, I know I couldn’t be objective in a cost/benefit analysis where one of the factors is loss of life. I see the faces of my 3 soldiers. All have been in Iraq and Afghanistan more than once. For me it easily becomes “my kids or the person shooting at them”.

      I don’t think any of the media gives us all the facts about anything.

      I agree a strike against Iran will have serious world wide consequences. Same goes if Iran does it. But Iran has said they want to destroy Israel & the US. I haven’t heard us say the same about them.

      Question is: Are there enough radical Islamists in Iran’s government to start the ultimate jihad

      MidWestMom: I often use the cost benefit analysis because the great majority of Americans simply have no skin in the game. You are obviously an exception to that rule. Of course cost of life should far out way anything else in the decision making process but like I said most Americans have no dog in the fight other than their economic interests.

      A group of neo-conservatives, who formed The Project for a New American Century, argued for a much stronger U.S. global leadership exercised through “military strength and moral clarity and the removal of Saddam Hussein in 1998. The group included Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, William Kristol, and other current members of George W. Bush’s administration, including Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and Under Secretary of State for Arms Control John Bolton.

      Almost all Jews. At the time, I knew they were lying about Iraq but I trusted GWB and I believed the best in our leaders and wanted to believe that they knew something we didn’t.. The bottom line was that Saddam was an enemy of Israel not the USA.

      Today it’s Ahmadinejad. He’s no threat whatsoever to the US but he may be to Israel. There’s going to always be a threat to Israel and they are going to always use their influence in the US Media to advocate our interventionism on their behalf. Always.

      These Wars are not in the interests of the American people but special interests. Primarily Israel but also the M.I.C. It’s the ultimate Stimul

    Sad happenings indeed. We need leadership badly. Pray for Israel and know that God will not turn His back on His homeland, but it is this country under the Obama adminstration I worry about. Do your part as an individual bc prayers are answered by God according to His will. Good can never turn towards evil, so therefore there is no negotiating with Iran, the enemy. Obama, the professed Christian(?) doesn’t seem to know that. He may learn the hard way and unfortunately we are drawn into his evil boggled mind control with no one left to turn to but God Almighty.       There are two important things said about Israel in the bible:

      1) No nation will harm Israel until they end of days. They will all fail because God will not allow it.
      2) Israel WILL be destroyed at the end of days. There is nothing any of us can do about it.

      So at this point it’s not up to us it is up to God. But he will protect Israel and he sure doesn’t need us rushing blindly into a war for them.

      Somewhat agree with you; things will go according to God’s will though, and we are told in the Bible that whoever turns their back on Israel will also be condemned, so I say we stick by them until the end. We don‘t know God’s will, no man does, so we should still follow His Word until it is all revealed to us. Keep praying and standing with Israel, no matter what happens. The Bible says there will be wars and more wars in the end, so how can they be avoided by man. I want peace too, but only Jesus will bring that to all mankind. As of now we have to settle with peace in our own hearts, knowing we are doing God’s will.

      Out of curiosity, I can‘t help but wonder what you recommended response would be if an Israeli targeted strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities sparked a response from Russia and China. I don’t know about you, but I’d say Russian involvement in such an oil rich area is an issue of great concern to the US. Forget about Israel for a minute. If Russia gains control or influence over the Middle East the rise in gas prices would destroy us.

    IF Israel attacks Iran, almost certainly Iran will let loose at least a few bombs towards our Naval forces stationed in Bahrain. This is the way the USA will be drawn into the conflict. 0BAMA will almost certainly apologize on our behalf, and say: “We mean Iran no harm.” But after our Naval forces in Bahrain get attacked for a second, third or fourth time, we will indeed have to retaliate. You heard it hear first!

    First of all, If they use missiles against Israel, Israel has an ABM system in operation, and would probably retaliate with nuclear weapons. I am betting the US has the patriot ABM system in saudi arabia and kuwait. All have US warplanes and know how to use them. Attack the US Navy? Please feel free to do so at your earliest opportunity. The US navy needs the target practice. Launch missiles at the US? US has an ABM system, and would respond in kind.

      Personally I’m more worried about nuclear terrorist strikes. That or an EMP detonation at high altitude. Remember, ABMs only work on large long range rockets and missiles and generally can only hit them at the apex of their flight path.

    Iran is a menace to security in that region. It‘s a shame that Obama doesn’t have the guts to stand up to them. God Bless Israel and the courage they show. Iran is determined to push this as far as they think they can and get mileage out of it. They only have their interests at heart and are determined to produce a nuclear weapon that they will use to threaten the entire region with. The ONLY saving grace is that I think that if they did get a nuke it would quite possibly be to large to be air dropped by a regular combat aircraft. We need to stand firm. Develop our OWN oil resources and do it now!

    However after saying that – Israel has not said it wanted to wipe Iran of the face of the earth.
    Nor does the Jewish religion preach death to all Muslims and christians. Nor does the jewish faith want to take control of the world.
    These little sheet heads are a danger to the World – Nobody except Syria wants them to have the bomb.
    The window of opportunity is closing quickly with them hardening there nuclear sites in mountains etc.

      If Iran is smart it better strike first because these blood thiristy Jews and Zionists are going to their bust their ass real soon and we all know that the Jews and Zionist certainly don’t give a rip about collateral damage.

      You want to talk facts? How about terrorists stationed in Mexico? Iran funds many terrorists groups including Hezbollah. Wouldn’t it be SO easy for Iran to ship weapons to Mexico, arm the terrorists their funding there, and then have them attack the States? Iran never attacks people directly if it can avoid it so that they can sit back and be ignored. Israel has intercepted Iranian shipments carrying weapons to Hamas. If they’re stopping some, how many are getting through? What if one of those that gets through is carrying a nuke? They could nuke Israel without even getting their hands dirty. And if they succeeded, would anyone stand up and try to stop them? No. Why? Because nobody will risk attacking if there is a risk of nuclear retaliation.

      If Iran can’t produce its own gasoline, why would they be trying to go nuclear? Surely that’s much harder. From my perspective, Iran doesn’t know the first thing about nukes or “radioactive isotopes. Oh they have scientists who know what to do, but even they know what they know because of Russia, China, and/or North Korea. Now why would Russia want a nuclear Iran? I’m not sure I want to find out.

      With the world economy including the US on the ledge looking over a depression any impact on oil will cause the world to topple over that edge.
      If we drill today – that oil would not see the pumps for years
      If fact our refinery capability is stretched – do you see any refineries being built?
      That said I also believe we should drill/coal nuclear etc to be oil independent – But it will not happen fast enough to help us if Iran get the bomb!
