Iranian Pastor Must Disavow His Christian Faith This Week…or He’ll Be Executed

Iranian Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani
Iranian Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani continues to very literally fight for his life in Iranian courts. As the Blaze reported back in July, Nadarkhani was arrested in October 2009 and charged with apostasy (the total abandonment of one’s religion) following a conversion from Islam to Christianity.
As we have already reported, Nadarkhani, now 32, made this conversion years ago when he was a teenager. While this has become the basis for the Iranian case against him, his initial arrest surrounded his public opposition to Christian schoolchildren being forced to participate in Islamic religious education. The Christian Post has more about how the pastor first came to the attention of authorities:
The case began in October 2009 when Nadarkhani protested at the local school of his two sons. The government had recently passed a law stating that Islam must be imposed on children in local school, and even on Christian children.
Nadarkhani publicly protested at the school, stating the law was unconstitutional because it did not allow the free practice of religion. His protest caught the attention of the police and government.
The details surrounding the legal handling of the case are complicated. According to some accounts, there was a glimmer of hope earlier this summer when Iran’s Supreme Court reportedly offered a recant or die option. In this instance, the government would avoid executing Nadarkhani if he “repented.”
But the court also allegedly sent the ruling back to the pastor’s hometown court. Jordan Sekulow provides more information in his Washington Post op-ed:
Iran’s supreme court had previously ruled that the trial court must determine if Youcef had been a Muslim before converting to Christianity.
However, the judges, acting like terrorists with a hostage, demanded that he recant his faith in Christ before even taking evidence. The judges stated that even though the judgment they have made is against the current Iranian and international laws, they have to uphold the previous decision of the 27th Branch of the Supreme Court in Qom.

Interestingly, Nadarkhani’s lawyer, Mohammed Ali Dadkhah, claimed that, because Nadarkhani was not a practicing Muslim prior to becoming a Christian pastor, he hadn’t technically renounced Islam. The court, of course, didn’t necessarily buy into this rationale.
Under Islamic law, repenting would involve the pastor apologizing and denouncing his conversion to Christianity. To date, this has not happened, as Nadarkhani has stuck to his religious ideals.
Now, his day of reckoning has come, as he is being asked to recant during court hearings this week (purportedly ending today). If he refuses — as he has done thus far — the Christian Post reports that he will be executed by hanging as early as next Wednesday. Christian Solidarity Worldwide, an organization that works to ensure religious freedom, further explains (emphasis mine):
Following investigation, the court in Rasht has ruled that Pastor Nadarkhani was not a practicing Muslim adult before becoming a Christian. However, the court has decided that he remains guilty of apostasy because he has Muslim ancestry. Pastor Nadarkhani’s lawyer, Mr Mohammed Ali Dadkhah, has made it clear to the court that the repeated demand for recanting is against both Iranian law and the constitution. The court replied that the verdict of the Supreme Court must be applied, regardless of the illegality of the demand.
The death sentence for apostasy is not codified in the Iranian Penal Code. However, using a loophole in Iran’s constitution, the judges in Rasht based their original verdict on fatwas by Ayatollahs Khomeini, the “father” of Iran’s revolution in 1979, Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and of Makarem Shirazi, currently the most influential religious leader in Iran.
This case will likely be settled in the coming days, as religious freedom advocates desperately attempt to save the life of a man who is guilty of nothing more than adhering to a personal belief system.

But knowing the nature of radical Islam, I begin to wonder if they are appealing to our humanity and hoping we will intervene and then start to give some of these people political asylum, and then we learn the truth. I too pray for a Miracle, but he looks like he has made his peace with God, we must pray for that kind of peace for ALL of us, too. For if these have their way, this is the law that would be foisted on the whole world. We hear preached that God would not let evil happen to us, but this discounts entirely the many in Christs day, then the Reformation, and indeed throughout ALL ages,have won many souls to Christ for the way they died! Our very right to read the Bible in our OWN LANGUAGE, HAS BEEN WRITTEN IN THE BLOOD OF THE INTERPRETER FOR MANY AGES! We do not BEGIN to appreciate the good with which God has blest us! If it didn’t, she’d need to pray for herself before praying for Yousef, (Gen 4:7) to be accepted means God accepts your offering, and here He told Cain that if he wasn’t accepted it was because “sin lieth at the door.” and thus it does with all of us until we ask God’s forgiveness for it. First of all I would never support a liberal even with a gun to my head. I’ve voted Republican without exception since I turned 18; however, GWB was really the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. The establishment Republicans today are no different than those on the left and they may even be more dangerous.. They are not to be trusted and they are not friends to the Conservative movement.
Secondly I find Islam disgusting wicked and inherently evil; however, I can’t pretend to think they don’t have a strong case against America and Israel just because I despise their religion and customs. They do. We have been propping up and tearing down Dictators over there for more than a Century! It’s not right, it’s not American and it’s not even Constitutional! America is exploiting the Middle East for its self interests and the interests of Israel and one would have to be as dumb as dirt not to see that even though we are bombarded with anti Middle East propaganda daily. But do you really think that those people that you are talking about are who God has His eye on? Tech, you don’t know the true Israel. Yes..we are spiritual Israel, but God does command us to stand by the nation of Israel. Those are the people that have His heart. There are those there who are devoted to Him and who study His Word all the time. Yashuah/Jesus is called the Word. So they actually do believe in Him… they just haven’t recognised Him yet..but they will. It is all in God’ plan Tech. Everyone has a part. I know that you don’t understand the plan of Islam…but prophesy tells us that it will be helter skelter. They don’t hate the Jews for the same reason that you do. They hate them because they want all of Israel. God gave a greater portion of land to Israel than what they have, but in the name of peace, they have given in. Posted on September 30, 2011 at 11:14amFirst of all I recognize you as a rational intelligent and a Christian individual. There are some on the Blaze. Secondly I wouldn’t say that I hate Jews. I don’t hate anyone. I have a lot of issues with what they have done and are doing as a collective but I do not hate individual people. I have many issues with the African American community but 3 or 4 of my favorite people at work are African American.
Finally since learning of the unscrupulous power which Jews yield in America and across the globe my Faith has become dead as a doormat. I won’t debate scripture or prophecy any longer. I will say that much of what is transpiring is eerily similar to what is laid out in prophecy but I simply no longer believe that the God of humanity could honor such a people as the Jews in any form of fashion considering all of the evil which they have perpetrated upon this world. In that vein, it is my opinion that even though Islam is evil and wicked there’s ample blame to spread around.
If you begin at the end of WW2 you had 10s of thousands of Arabs in Palestine just minded their business… 10 years later 10s of thousands of those people were either dead or homeless. You have to recognize that caused a righteous anger within the Arab populations. I don’t want to defend them too much but you know there are usually 3 or 4 sides to every story.

He wears his little New York hat and he looks like he stepped out of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. He and his wife are awesome. I believe that all people of God are awesome Tech. None of us are perfect and the Bible does say to love our enemies. I have found that to be the hardest thing to do. I have a heart for you Tech, because I understand you so well. You are just going through something right now Tech. Your faith just feels dead. It will come back. God has you in his arms. Please remember to pray and ask God to direct your thoughts and your life. I‘ve been following this man’s plight since the beginning, and his lawyer, though trying to appear ‘helpful’ is bound by the laws of shariah, so Yousef basically has no defense (in Shariah, anyway). Apostasy is the worst sin a Muslim can do, …it’s seen as leading the faithful away from allah, there is no worse sin, and unless they ‘repent’ and denounce, the outcome is always death…this, as an example to any other Muslims contemplating conversion. Of course,Christians, unlike Muslims, are required always to be truthful, even when his accusers are not of his faith, so that the unbeliever can witness the power of Gd. Pray for this young man, Gd has chosen him… this outrages the Muslims no end, and the world…the United Nations… chooses not condemn those who would kill him, and others like him in those Islamic dominated places.
