Iranian Students Storm, Ransack British Embassy in Tehran

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Hard-line Iranian students stormed the British diplomatic compounds in Tehran on Tuesday, bringing down the Union Jack flag and throwing documents from windows in scenes reminiscent of the anger against Western powers after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The mob surged past riot police into the British Embassy compound – which they pelted with petrol bombs and stones – two days after Iran‘s parliament approved a bill that reduces diplomatic relations with Britain following London’s support of recently upgraded Western sanctions on Tehran over its disputed nuclear program.

Less than two hours later, police appeared to regain control of the site. But the official IRNA news agency said about 300 protesters entered the British ambassador’s residence in another part of the city and replaced British flags with Iranian ones. The British Foreign Office harshly denounced the melee and said Iran has a “clear duty” under international law to protect diplomats and offices.

“We are outraged by this,” said the statement. “It is utterly unacceptable and we condemn it.”

It said a “significant number” of protesters entered the compound and caused vandalism, but gave no other details on damage or whether diplomatic staff was inside the embassy, although the storming occurred after business hours.

The semiofficial Mehr news agency said embassy staff had left the compound before the mobs entered, but it also said those who occupied the area had taken six staff as hostages. It did not give their nationalities and the report was later removed from the website without elaboration.

The protesters broke through after clashing with anti-riot police and chanting for its takeover. “Death to England,” some cried in the first significant assault of a foreign diplomatic area in Iran in years. More protesters poured into the compound as police tried to clear the site.

Smoke rose from some areas of the embassy grounds and the British flag was replaced with a banner in the name of 7th century Shiite saint, Imam Hussein.

The occupier called for the closure of the embassy calling it a “spy den” – the same phrase used after militants stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979 and held 52 hostages for 444 days. Washington and Tehran have no diplomatic relations since then.

The rally outside the British Embassy – on a main street in Tehran downtown – included protesters carrying photographs of nuclear scientist Majid Shahriari, who was killed last year in an attack that Iran blamed on Israeli and British spy services.

Outside the embassy, students from some universities and seminaries burned British flags on fire as clashing with police.

State TV reported that another group of hard-line students gathered at the gate of British ambassador’s residence in northern Tehran, at the same time.

Tensions with Britain date back to the 19th century when the Persian monarchy gave huge industrial concessions to London, which later included significant control over Iran’s oil industry.

But they have become increasingly strained as the West accuses Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons – a charge Tehran denies.

In recent years, Iran was angered by Britain’s decision in 2007 honor author Salman Rushdie with a knighthood.

Rushdie went into hiding after Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini issued a 1989 fatwa, or religious edict, ordering Muslims to kill the author because his novel “The Satanic Verses” allegedly insulted Islam.

The decision shortly after Iran detained 15 British sailors and marines in March 2007 for allegedly entering the country’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf – a claim Britain denies. The 15 were released after nearly two weeks in captivity.

In 2006, angry mobs burned the Danish flag and attacked Danish and other Western embassies in Tehran in protest to the reprinting of a cartoon deemed insulting of the Prophet Muhammad in the Nordic country’s newspapers.

We all base our opinions of other cultures based on those we interact with. That being said, my first experience with an Iranian wasn’t good. My aunt took me to a club when I was 17 (private club for dancing, I didn’t drink) and an Iranian college student asked me to dance. i agreed, even though it was a slow dance (my highschool was very small, thus I was probably a bit naive). He tried to “dance me out the door.” I told my aunt, and she said don’t dance with the Iranians, they think one dance means you want to sleep with them.

Iranians are animals. A chubby girl I knew in college dated some Iranian guy, and he wanted her to move back home with him to get married. She was going to do it, but she got too drunk, and missed the flight, and the Iranian guy was “pushed away” by my friend’s family. She knows she dodged a bullet and wants all girls to know “DO NOT MOVE TO THE MIDDLE EAST WITH ANY MAN”

If we keep meddling in the Middle East for Israel’s benefit, China and Russia will not continue to stand by. You go into Iran, and you might find yourself at another Yalu River. Fools learn nothing from history.
Israel is the problem. Most of the world recognizes this truth. It’s just that we, in America, have a media heavily influenced by Jews.

It seems as most Jew haters (and of course your in fine company with followers of Islam and Nazi’s) seem to point the blame at Jews simply because they exist. Their faith may seem to some a bit extreme but I dont recall any mandates that forse unbelivers to convert or die or imposing their laws upon those who dont subscribe to their faith.

No doubt about meddling in the mideast but for our own benefit and I was there to see it unfold from 87-2000 on mulitple tours of the area including a couple of Wars fought over oil access. Its for our benefit that the oil be controlled by the west where supposed cooler heads prevail. No oil, no life as we no it and certainly no power for USA internally or to project. WWIII is certain but it will be Israel lashing out once and for all against all those currently coming in for the kill. From 2000 to 2011 I can draw my own logical conclusions based on current develops and strife in the region esp since our recent uping the ante there with two Wars.

There are 74+ million people in Iran with a huge percentage being very young. So you are implying that it was the same people because you can only count to 20. Yo counted the people inn the Persian Awakening protests & in the British embassy incident. You counted as high as you could go 20. So naturally you assumed that the people in the Persian Awakening& the British protest were one ?& the same. After all you think there is only 20 people in Iran.

Really, it‘s a hard decision because One World Governments don’t work out. I suppose that’s why certain people crave the desire for people to believe there is another world out there in space, and therefore the people of earth would be inclined to support a One World government, because then it would be earth against the other world. But, it’s just not so, at least not yet. And I assume that is another reason why certain people are so adamant about populating Mars or the Moon, in that it will provide that other world. I think the grand plan is that we have to get along without there being another world.

Don’t mistake the desire to have a Germany for Germans as an equivalent to killing Jews. I doubt seriously you‘ve ever read the book but it doesn’t matter. You know for hundreds or not thousands of years it was rather normal to have a Russian nation made up primarily of Russians, French nation made up of Francs, England made up of English, China of Chinese….etc, You get the point. The Multicultural experiment which was blamed on the Jews even back then was not well received in Germany at the time and personally I don’t care for it today either nor do I care for its promoters.

Genesis 12:2-3 “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you,and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

I do thank you for throwing a line. Good luck and hope you have a Merry Christmas and we all survive WWIII this winter.

Armed Patriot: Look I’m not a defender or a promoter of Islam. .I despise it and I hate it but you and I both know that if there‘s a hornet’s nest out in the woods a few miles out of the way we don’t go poking and prodding for no reason.. Now if they were to begin a march towards our property it would be a different story. We would destroy them and stop their advance but why risk going to their nest and making them even more angry?

Maybe too simply of an analogy but as the poster above stated you can’t start in 1979. We’ve been there since the early 20 century. Look I‘m no expert on the matter but I know enough that I woudln’t want another Nation or power setting up a puppet regime in America. How would you feel if the Chinese installed a puppet Gov’t in America and they soaked us and treated us badly and then they forced Buddism upon us?

I don’t know exactly what the Shaw regime did or were accused of but the Iranians said they were not good.. You and I were not there but why are we setting up a regime in Iran to begin with? It’s not our place.

Like I said I hate the religion but we have no place over their meddling.. You spoke of Lebanon. What did Reagan do when the barraks were bombed? We simply should not have been there. We are not the Global Police. As a matter of fact we are bordering on a failed state and we are completely bankrupt. Not one further dime should be wasted in the Middle East.

techengineer11… There is a simple solution. Support Israel (my point as stated in Genesis) and drill here, drill now, and allow the Canadian oil sands pipeline to be built. We CAN get out of the ME. We need oil. That is the fuel of freedom. We can get it for ourselves, or we MUST remain in the ME. It all depends on oil. Everthing, EVERYTHING we have is dependenat on oil. Without oil, we ar 19th century. The cities, even small towns couldnt exist. We would be back to hunting our meat, farming our own food, no medicine, no transportation, no electricity, no heat, no ac, no nothing. Without oil we will die.

Simplist of solutions… drill here, drill now, open the continental shelf and the gulf, as well as Alaska, remove all oil drilling moratoriums, allow the oil sands pipeline from Canada, as well as oil shale deposits, and we hgave more oil than the ME. We can be sufficient. As long as the environmental (E-mental) agaenda is in place, we have to fight in the ME to support our way of life.

The choice must be made clear… Support wars in the ME or drill here, drill now. There is no other choice. As far as Iran… They have been at war with Americans since 1979. Active war. BOMB THE HELL OUT OF IRAN and bomb them back to being Persians. You are aware that the Nazis convinced them to change the country’s name from Persia to Iran (Aryan)… right?

Armed Patriot: I agree with your assessment concerning the oil issue. You know that is why I initially supported the Iraq War. I’m ashamed to say that now and I mean very ashamed but I knew the administration was drumming up propaganda and lying to the American people but I felt like they were actually acting on behalf for our best interests as in securing oil for the future. I’m really ashamed to admit that now because of all its implications but it’s true. Furthermore today I’m absolutely convinced that if they were securing oil interests it was not for the good of the American people but for chosen corporate interests and their shareholders. It never is.

I’m all for drilling in America, Alaska, the gulf etc but always be mindful that they are not doing this drilling for the American people because all of the oil will be sold on the global markets. While it indirectly benefits us it is certainly not be a direct benefit for anyone but the drillers and the sellers of the oil.

On the Israeli/Jewish issue, I simply disagree. Jesus has come. We have all now been chosen. Anyone that accepts Christ is Chosen. It’s really that simple. Follow Christ go to heaven; reject him go to hell.

If Israel is attacked without cause and her people are harmed then I’d probably support defending her but no more or no less than any other nation on earth. Our Founders warned us about entangling alliances and encouraged us to stay clear of them. Israel will lead us to WW3

Somehow, the fact of the two accidents (if they were) at the missile base, and nearby city to Tehran, make more sense as a possible set up (their own Wag the Dog moment), to intitiate hostilites against Israel and the West.

Oh Gee Smackdown we helped the British overthrow the Iranian government in 1953. That was wrong. So what.

Part of the reason that Iranians nationalized (stole) the British property was that the Americans were paying way more for Saudi oil just across the Gulf (3x more if I remember). The Brits did not want to renegotiate. Nationalization is always ugly. Added to those 2 wrongs, Khomeini & company may he rot in hell has added many more. Persecution of Jews, Bahia, Christians, Kurds, …

After 1979 we froze arms sales to Iran & grounded their air force. Is that a reason to set up Hizbollah?

If you really dig into it, Khomeini grew up bent!

Don’t forget, Carter allowed our Embassy in Tehran to be taken twice. Once in ‘78, then again in ‘79. We quickly recovered it through the Iranian government’s assistance the first time, but one Marine was held hostage briefly afterwards. Then, he was returned safely. Carter actually had very little to do with it. He showed about as much leadership potential as we are getting from our current POTUS. it occurred all over again in ‘79 and the world is more aware of that 444 day period of time.
