Iranian Woman Who Once Faced Stoning ‘Will be Hanged’

Human rights group The International Committee Against Stoning is reporting that an Iranian woman who cheated death by stoning will be hanged instead today.
Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, a mother of two, was originally sentenced to death by stoning for committing adultery. But after immense pressure from the international community, Tehran decided to stay that punishment — instead choosing Ashtiani could be hanged.
“The authorities in Tehran have given the go-ahead to Tabriz prison for the execution of Iran stoning case Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani,” the human rights group said in a statement dated November 1.
“It has been reported that she is to be executed this Wednesday, 3 November.”
However, a release dated November 3 says that the execution has once again been postponed due to “global public outcry” but that Ashtiani’s death remains “imminent.”
Although the stoning has been abandoned, the change in method may not be an act of benevolence as much as it signals an increase in charges. According to London’s Daily Mail, after reviewing Ashtiani’s case the government was considering charging her with murder. Under the Islamic law in force in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the paper says, murder is punishable by hanging, adultery by stoning.
“We ask that people continue their protests, exerting pressure on governments and the Islamic Republic of Iran and highlighting her situation until her execution is officially rescinded and she is released,” ICAS wrote on its website.

Posted on November 3, 2010 at 10:56pmThe Iranian government is evil. Most of us know this. Their president is a former terrorist and is suspected of having strong ties with Hamas and Hezbollah. Their clerics have stacked the deck to make sure he keeps wining elections; and, when that doesn’t work they declare him the winner anyway. They enforce sharia law whenever they’re in the mood to, hence the stoning sentence, followed by the hanging sentence. Public outcry will only work for so long, then they Iranian government will find a way to kill this person; because, they have decided they want to.
Sharia law is evil to begin with. Islam is not Sharia, and doesn’t need it.

That sure seems extremely barbaric and cruel for any crime let alone adultery. I am no expert on that Religion but what about repentance, forgiveness and mercy? I guess those are in no way related to peace. These are the kind of stories that really get my blood boiling. Animals are treated better than how they treat women. I guess Whoopi and Joy would walk out on O’Reilly on his stance on this also.

Oklahoma voters have approved a measure that would forbid judges from considering international law or Islamic law when deciding cases.
Republican Rex Duncan, the sponsor of the measure, called it a “pre-emptive strike“ designed to close the door on activist judges ”legislating from the bench or using international law or Sharia law.”
Members of the Muslim community called the question an attack on Islam and some of them said they are prepared to file a lawsuit challenging the measure.

Gotta ask… (wish I could ask her)… “Do you believe in ALL Islamic law and the laws of your religion, or just SOME of them?” You could have her whisked out of her country, into the U.S. and… while she may believe adultery is okay, and she should be spared, she may, at the same time, believe it’s okay to wipe all Jews off the planet and would plot to bomb something. While we can judge this situation here, maybe it‘s God’s will??? to let her die there. God will one day raise her up from the dead and the veil lifted from her eyes, and she will see the error of her ways and be given a new life, a chance to live God’s way, with his mercy, his love. At least hanging is quick (if it works properly the first time, but I believe they have very.. experienced personnel). If I had the choice between hanging and lethal injection, I’d choose hanging every time.
I’d prefer a global end to the death sentence, personally.

Here in America, I have only one objection to our death penalty. My objection is some death row inmates die of old age before they can be executed.
Our capital offense post-conviction process needs to be streamlined down to mandatory execution within one year. This process also needs to have stringent safeguards effected to prevent execution of an innocent person.
One year, mandatory execution.
There are clear abuses of justice in other countries such as the Mideast and African nations. A death sentence is often imposed for political reasons or other “excuse” reasons. This is of concern.

Many Muslims object to hanging which denies those Muslims this pleasure of slowly and torturously killing a person.
In Iran, hangings are typically slow and deliberate. Iran uses a method of hanging which does not break a neck rather slowly chokes a person to death. This provides greater delight for crowds of Muslims standing around watching a hanging.

Maybe not in the larger cities, but definitely in the small villages. I recently read “I’m Nujood, Age 9 and Divorced” Horrible story of sexual and physical abuse by a 30 some yr old man. All of this because of “honor” and that’s what their beloved Mohommad had, a 9 yr old girl.
How can we NOT be so close minded to others being hurt and abused when it isn’t right. Their religion is all about men and while abusing and neglecting women.
