TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s supreme leader warned the United States on Sunday that any measures taken against Tehran over an alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington would elicit a “resolute” response.

Two men, including a member of Iran’s special foreign actions unit known as the Quds Force, have been charged in New York federal court with conspiring to kill the Saudi diplomat, Adel Al-Jubeir. U.S. officials have said no one was ever in any immediate danger from the plot.

“If U.S. officials have some delusions, (they must) know that any unsuitable act, whether political or security, will meet a resolute response from the Iranian nation,” state TV quoted Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as saying.

Khamenei’s comments may reflect Iranian concerns that Washington would use the Jubeir case to ratchet up sanctions and recruit international allies to try to further isolate Tehran.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has been blunt in saying the United States would use the allegations as leverage with other countries that have been reluctant to apply harsh sanctions or penalties against Iran.

President Barack Obama said Thursday that the U.S. will be able to support all of its allegations that Iran was directly involved in the plot.

But Khamenei, who has the final say on all state matters in Iran, said that the U.S. accused Iran of terror in order to divert attention from its economic woes and from the Occupy Wall Street protest movement.

“By attributing an absurd and meaningless accusation to a few Iranians, they tried … to show that Iran is a supporter of terrorism … This conspiracy didn‘t work and won’t work,” he said.

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his part dismissed U.S. accusations as a fabricated “scenario.”

“Iran is a civilized nation and doesn’t need to resort to assassination,” Ahmadinejad was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying Sunday. “The culture of terror belongs to you,” he said, addressing the United States.

Iranian officials have consistently denied the allegations since they first emerged last week. An earlier statement by Khamenei on Saturday, and Ahmadinejad’s remarks on Sunday, were the first comments made by the country’s two highest leaders.

In a formal statement released Saturday, the Iranian government said it has no connection to Manssor Arbabsiar, the man arrested in the alleged plot.

“Unilaterally announcing accusations without showing documentation and creating a media wave against Iran is in no way compatible with legal logic, and can only be a purely media and political show,” it said.

Arbabsiar is a 56-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen who also had an Iranian passport. In May 2011, the criminal complaint says, he approached someone he believed to be a member of the vicious Mexican narco-terror group, Los Zetas, for help with an attack on a Saudi embassy. The man he approached turned out to be an informant for U.S. drug agents, it says.

The U.S. charges that Arbabsiar had been told by his cousin Abdul Reza Shahlai, a high-ranking member of the Quds Force, to recruit a drug trafficker because drug gangs have a reputation for assassinations.

Iranian lawmakers and analysts have said Iran would not benefit from killing the Saudi ambassador in Washington, and thus has no reason to do so.

      I think both China and Iran hate Capitalism, so they would connect on some level, and yes they would probably work together to try to end Capitalism.

      But the way to show that Capitalism works isn’t to refuse to trade with them. In fact, cheaper products from China are a GREAT thing – the only people who fear trade wars are those who have bought into a Marxist definition of the term “competition”.

      Again, competition IS NOT when companies are punished for their efficiency and prices. Competition is where the company who produces a product that most people want DESERVES all the business they’re getting.

      If you think you can do better business than someone, then no one should be allowed to stop you from trying. But if you can’t produce something better or cheaper, then people will buy somewhere else, AND THAT’S THEIR CHOICE.

      How about you back up a few more years and tell the rest of the story. 1953 CIA and MI 5 lead an overthrow of Irans leader because, prior to 1951 Irans oil was controlled by British oil companies and Iran thought they should have control of their own oil supply so they nationalized it to keep the British from raking in huge profits off of it so in 1953 they succeeded in masterminding an overthrow of Irans government. Its history my friend you cant just leave a part out to make it pro one side or the other. You have to tell the whole story or dont tell it all.       I see two arguments here and I think both have a bit of truth to them.

      1. Muslims hate us because we are not muslims.
      This is very true, any muslim that doesn’t hate us is not really following what their religion teaches. Islam is a Theocracy which is obeyed by laws and is totally against freedom.

      However

      2. Muslims have not shown to attack other countries unless incited by a foreign occupation. There have been extensive studies on suicide bombers and the results are staggering. If we would leave them alone, they would leave us alone. If they would try to attack us, unprovoked, their may be a leg to stand on to defend ourselves.

      3. They would, however, try to infiltrate our country and slowly eat away at our devotion to the true Lord and Savior Jesus and the Freedom He brings. This can only be stopped by LOVING OUR ENEMIES. Showing them the most excellent Way. So they may taste the Freedom that is brought by knowing a God that has fulfilled the law of sin and death and saved us by His grace. We do not need all these laws, if we know Him and spread His love. Then we will see a revolution.

My eyes have really been opened to the level which propaganda has influence both sides of the political spectrum after following the Blaze over the past year or so.. I use to think that Liberals were the only brain dead idiots out there but that’s simply not true. Moreover it’s getting worse now. Conservatives are simply being brainwashed through FOX, Beck, and other supposedly Conservative talk radio hosts who are simply Statist at best and Internationalists.. There’s really not that much Conservative about them.

      Anyway, thanks for pointing out the obvious concerning Iran.. Good luck though.. Most of the morons on the Blaze believe that US and Islam entered this conflict on 9-11.. They are simply to ignorant to realize what led up to 9-11 and they do not possess the critical thinking skills in order to figure it out for themselves..     The easiest way to provoke a massive international crisis right now is to tweak Iran. They don’t have to launch missiles or attack anything. All they have to do is close the narrow Straits of Hormuz through which 30%+ of the world’s oil must travel. That would shut off virtually all sales of gasoline/diesel to private consumers in the U.S. in favor of keeping trains, trucks, government and military, and emergency vehicles running. Iran has thousands of mines prepared, and the islands in the gulf have massive underground missile facilities. See google maps for Abu Musa, Iran, where the entrances to the underground facilities and missile emplacement are clearly visible on the satellite view on the eastern side of the island (both north and south of the runway).

    On the mainland, their sub base boasts both large and mini-submarines (also viewable via google) which, while old diesel style boats, are ideally suited for the shallow waters of the gulf and “shoot & hide” tactics among the islands.

    We have the George W Bush carrier task force in the Gulf guarding Saudi Arabia (another related story), but military planners will tell you that with limited maneuvering capabilities in the gulf, Iran would be a formidable enemy. Essentially, to put military leverage would take not only a fleet in the gulf, but a very large military presence on its eastern and western borders… Afghanistan ans Iraq respectively… DUH!       Interesting that you bring up access by Iraq. According to today’s reports, we will be out of Iraq by December. I still have to wonder about our so called presidenta saying that we needed a civilian force equal to, or greater than our U.S. military. Now why would you need something of that nature.       Then again, when have you ever been told the truth about anything real in life?
      The thing about a Father and children is that if the children think the father has the ability to do far more for the children but the father won’t do more, then the children are left wanting, and they feel there is a void(that‘s why God only showed Moses God’s backside, and why God said the Children of Israel would die if they saw God). And if the Father actually shows-off his ability to do more, but will not do more for his children, then there is a bigger void of emptiness. And since the children don’t really understand how the Father came to be where he is at, then the showing-off by the Father will cause his children to die in spirit. So how about the “Church” do the right thing and tell people that Jesus didn’t really do all the “Literal” miracles that the New Testament says he did? His miracles were Jesus’ innate unique ability to make people understand their ailments. Because surely, Jesus Christ would not leave his children “Wanting” in the state of spiritual deadness. And the truth of the matter is that if people knew their souls live again, then the wicked would have no power over men. Moreover if even I will only show Moses the backside because of the risk of ki lling the spirit of the Children of Israel, then I am isn’t going to give Jesus Christ the power to ki ll the spirit of people.

      If you are in the military, and a grunt, then you have my thanks for your service. Having said that, I think you give too much credence to Iran. We could send less than 1000 covert men into Iran, and in one month destabilize the entire country. Iran‘s weapons are 20 years behind America’s, in fact, there are probably only 10 nations in the world that have much of our technology, much, not all. We the people don’t get to see most of what goes on behind the scenes, but there is no doubt in my military mind that Iran would be devastated within 60 days.

      @MACWELL That is nice to know. But doesn’t Iran have the military backing of Russia and China? And haven’t they been in a mad dash for missiles that can do catastrophic damage? And is it not Ahmadinjad’s dream to bring that 12th or 13 Imom so that they can establish Islam all over the world and force everyone into Sharia Law….oh but wait….Obama is working toward that goal. Anyone keeping up with the Islamic agenda knows this. That is why there is so much hatred on here with the ones who stand for Israel against the ones who don’t . We are supposed to love even the Muslims. My pastor says that we are to pray for Israel…and since we are Spiritual Israel… I suppose that we should be praying for ourselves … I stand by Israel ..but I do not despise the one‘s who don’t… and I understand their posture…but I think that they are underestimating Islam. Doesn’t matter, because in the end…God wins….We just have to learn to love and be obedient to him.

    While there may or may not have been a plan I think this was all brought out now because congress was getting ready to deliver Holder a subpoena. This is all a ruse to deflect the attention away from the crooked justice department. In fact if you scroll down the front page of the Blaze there’s not one story about any congressional subpoena, nothing about Fast and Furious and nothing about Holder changing his story every two days.

      “Civilized” is a liberal delusion. We have never been civilized. Human society has barely evolved since the time of cavemen. We just have fancier caves, and bigger rocks to throw. The problem with the USA is we have deluded ourselves to the fact that we are somehow more evolved, so we miss the reality. We don’t destroy our enemies when we have the chance and now they are stronger. America has failed. We just haven’t woke up to that fact yet. The next massive war is coming, and it will be on our yard this time. If you want to know what it will look like, just read the stories and look at the pictures from the Bosnia/Yugoslavia/Kosovo war. It is going to be nasty. I hope you are ready.

    I would have to say that I would tend to agree with the Iranians on this one. It’s a bit too much of a coincidence that the announcement should come on the day that Eric Holder is served subpoenas for “Fast and Furious”. It appears as though we are being given “Smoke and Mirrors” again.

      Hey Randy, why are you so inclined to investigate the governments obviously twisted role in the “fast and furious case”.But you and many other people have such a hard time putting the pieces together to see our govs obvious involvement in 9-11. At the VERY least, the Bush admin insiders and CIA/FBI knew of the attacks prior. They allowed 9-11 to happen to justify the War on Terror. Any honest researcher can look at the facts and come to the conclusion that it is was indeed an inside job like fast and furious is. Too bad most US Citizens started paying attention after 9-11. If you weren’t awake before 9-11 it is hard to see clearly with the fear and propaganda we have been fed the past 10years

      If it had happened near the end of his term, I might be suspicious, but it happened at the worst time, the beginning. It derailed all his plans. I think there is more to the story for sure, I would be more willing to bet Al Gore hired the Al Qaeda hit as retribution for the election. He started to look like a ***** terrorist with the beard and crazy eyes. 911 was a result of discounting the danger posed by these guys. There were warnings all the way back into the 80′s I have several books written about the subject from 1986. All those warnings were overlooked and ignored, and we took gut punch for it. In the scheme of things it was not as big as it could have been….imagine if the planes had hit lower or into the street level….The death toll would have been truly huge.
