Ireland Is The Next Domino to Fall in Europe’s Turn Against Austerity

DUBLIN (AP/The Blaze) — When voters in Greece and France got the chance, they dealt a resounding “No!” to parties backing austerity measures. The Irish, who labor under an income tax rate 48 percent, could be next to give the European Union’s austerity plan a black eye.
“The Irish government, which has been trying to bridge a big fiscal gap after the financial crisis, raised the top rate by one percentage point for a third-consecutive year in 2011,” CNBC reports.
“The country’s top marginal rate kicks in at about $43,900 of taxable income. Citizens also have to pay an additional social security tax of 4 percent. The government increased tax rates that apply to gifts and inheritances as well as capital gains from 25 percent to 30 percent in December,” CNBC adds.
Ireland is the only EU member putting the agreement to a national vote.
A May 31 referendum asks the public to approve an EU treaty that aims to control nations’ deficits and longer-term debts. Critics, however, say the treaty ignores the competing need to stimulate growth.
Analysts say an Irish rejection of the treaty, combined with Francois Hollande‘s victory as France’s president and a hard-left turn in Greece’s parliamentary elections, could force the continent to shift in favor of less cutting and greater “investment in growth.“ And by ”investment in growth“ they mean ”more government spending.”
As part of the proposed austerity measures, the Irish government has introduced a homeowner tax of 100 euros or $132 per household tax this year, accroding to CNBC.
“But the government has struggled to collect the fee with only one-third of homeowners paying up by the March 31st deadline,” the report adds.
“Thousands of protesters have demonstrated against the new property tax in Ireland’s capital, Dublin, in the last two months. The tax is expected to rise dramatically next year once Ireland starts to vary the charge based on a property’s value.”
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

From Doolin they sailed in the dark of night
tempting fate by a dream, a chance to be free
seen from the Cliffs of Moher; a grand voyage!
The Aran Islands waved them on, God speed ye
and the Inishmores cried that night God save ye!
The desperate souls aboard that ship of dreamers
failed to ask the captain’s name of that ghost ship
that sailed off Doolin, Ireland, in the dark of night.
All drowned at night in the ice-cold North Atlantic
Ireland was their home that the British denied them.
Irish dreamers died that night; plead Dan O’Connell
for the poets and dreamers lost aboard a damned ship
a haunted ship, a bloody voyage, a dreadful nightmare.
The Banshees weep no more! Choirs of Irish poets sing
we are the fools who trusted Cromwell, the ships captain.
That infamous captain that lost all passengers far off Doolin
Report Post »a deliberate act of an Englishman, impaled on London Bridge;
who haunts that ship of dreamers, who trusted the devil himself.
Irish poets write bleak poems, as a devils tongue wags blameless
nailed to the deck of that ship of dreamers that sails on, evermore.

When you try to include everything, then you end up destroying everything. Europe has been on a liberal binge for the last forty years and the pie has finally came out of the oven. The result is not the apple pie the liberals had hoped for.

According to Wikipedia “BALCEROWICS PLAN was a series of reforms which sought to END HYPERINFLATION and BALANCE THE BUDGET…….Since 1989 POLAND’S annual GROWTH RATE WAS THE HIGHEST of all post-communist economies and have NOT ENTERED ECONOMIC RECESSION.
Can this economic plan be a MODEL to help the U.S. economy and the struggling economies of Europe?

Posted on May 12, 2012 at 1:01amFrom 2003 to 2006 I was making regular business trips to Dublin, Ireland. Back then, virtually every road construction project had a sign saying that “EU development funds were paying for 85% of that project”. This was all over the country, not just in the capital. The Irish really loved the EU when THEY were collecting multiples of what they were contributing.
With the addition of the Eastern European countries, Ireland instantly went from “collector nation” to “contributor nation” joining the “rich EU countries”. Now that they have to pay their own way and are NOT getting free goodies, all of a sudden they don’t like EU mandates so much.
Good little European Socialists to the end.

Posted on May 11, 2012 at 11:57pmThink about it. If you can vote for a party that wants to tax you more and cut benefit programs or vote for the party that will just give you more money…..keep the spending party going…..which one do you think people will go for? The natural choice is for the party with no accountability, no repercussions, just keep giving away free money and just keep living under the big lie that it can go on forever. Then eventually it will crash down 10 times as worse and they will be living like the Weimar Republic. The piper will be coming for his dues very soon.

Posted on May 11, 2012 at 9:04pmI don’t find it sad, I find it absurd that people are still sucking the t*t of the government and taking advantage of everything that comes their way because they believe they deserve it. Austerity puts people in their place and shows people the reality that all government programs cost money given by the tax payers! As a tax payer I am so sick of our country giving our money away to other countries! As a tax payer I am so sick of people in America thinking they should get welfare, food stamps and all the other government programs! Entitlements are not what the original ideas were when this government was created nor house any belief of our founding fathers! They are propaganda’s made by socialists and communists that believe they can control the people in turn refusing to give rights to anyone by their party! Why don’t those people just get out and go to those countries that will have them? We need to cut out all the fat in this country totally and make working an only option! I am so sick of this system in the way they conduct themselves with no sense of integrity! Be forewarned! There is a domino effect coming our way and the wave is getting larger as it approaches! You better get out of debt and get your head on straight, because you won’t have even a prayer by the time they are done with you!

Posted on May 14, 2012 at 2:58pmMore are opting out by getting out of the home owner scheme which is only a method to tax the people, give you the illusion of ownership, when you refuse to pay, they lien your home and in some cases seize it and evict you. Thats a scam! But as long as you go along with it, it feels like you are winning…but when you count up the costs 10-15 years later when you sell the money pit, you find that you’ve actually would have been better saving your money in a modest bank account and even that does not work because of inflation. Bottom line! There is no REAL security in this world! The only real security are God given blessings which come at no cost!

The Euro is toast; wait until the next crash, brought to you by the central banks and the money printers. Oh, what fun. Financial analysts whom I trust predict the market will tank again this summer; track market performance over the past few years and you’ll see it is obvious.

Individualism, the nuclear family, owning property and building personal wealth are all being discouraged. The progressives say – “Sure, you can own property, but since you’re not sharing it with the “State”, we’re going to tax you proportionally on how much you own.” You can have children, but we’ll decide what they eat, where they’ll live, what their morals are, and what they think.

When the SHTF only those who have prepared may survive! They may help for awhile, and then it will come to sorry, I have to feed and protect my own!
