Irony: Anti-War Protester Screams Pro-Gitmo Woman Should be ‘Hanged’

We’ve already brought you one video from the weekend anti-war/Occupy Wall St. protest in Chicago. Now we have another gem.

Blogger Rebel Pundit again caught up with a protester in the middle of the march. This time, he interviewed a man who was quite upset that a counter-protester had a sign supporting the U.S. prison in Cuba, Guantanamo Bay.

“You should be hanged for treason right there!” the video shows the man yelling as he marches. He then points out a woman holding a sign that says “Gitmo Love.“ When pushed on if he actually thinks she should be ”hanged,” the man backs off a little, and says, “maybe not hanged, but she is a treason.” Still, he then goes on to explain that people who commit treason should be killed.

Rebel Pundit explains:

We caught up with this anti-war protester on Saturday. He was shouting “die and hang” to a woman holding sign supporting Gitmo. He was afraid we were with Fox News and we might only use snippets of the interview, so we decided it was best to let you hear most of his thoughts.

But wait, there’s more. Rebel Pundit noticed the man was carrying a socialist worker sign and asked if he supported socialism and communism. The man responded:

“Socialism means a democratic– before the Soviet Union, before that word got perverted and corrupted, socialism meant democracy over the work place, and I believe in the original definition of having democratic ownership over your work place, over the economy.”

He also defines patriotism as dissent.

      I’ve been listening to a lot of “occupy _______” videos (they are doing this in large cities all over the country) and the words they use disturb me. It seems they are co-opting the Tea Party.

      We gave him his say and now the Blazer can decide what his fate should be. No doubt we would not say he should be hung or the like, in fact he is entitled to his opinion and freedom of speech. Unfortunately he does not have his facts straight and his world view is so childish that he makes no sense whatsoever. Hang the lady but its OK for him to say what he wants to? There are so many others like him and worse, because they know exactly what they are doing and have nothing to replace the system with once they tear it down for this masters. But those incharge will replace it with a system that has been used many times and has failed many times, caused massive loss of life but yet here we are marching onward to the madness of silly people like this misguided young man.

      I thought you guys were into original intent. I guess I missed the part of the Bill of Rights that identified “Americans” or “Citizens” as the only people given rights under our Constitution. I should return my 1791 gear I guess since I missed the implied meaning of the Bill of Rights that basic human rights are only guaranteed to Americans.

      Thanks for the quote. The preamble is great although you seem to be willing to admit a lot of shades of gray to that whole “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” bit. Not to mention you are making my point. It says “people” in the Preamble, not “citizens” or “non-Indian residents”. That would include “people” taken from all around the globe and brought under US jurisdiction for purposes of detention and torture. Just because you wish that the preamble said “citizens” or even “christian, native-born, citizens of European descent” doesn’t make it say that. You at least could of found the parts of the Constitution that had the word “citizen” in it. You would find that it is really only used to describe people eligible for national, elected office and has nothing to do with guaranteeing rights to citizens only.

      How do you reconcile championing free speech with the imprisonment of “people” without charges or a trial?

I suppose it could be, in which case my definition could cover the entire globe, but really it only applies to the “people” of the United States and that would include the couple of hundred people that the United States took into custody without charges, trial or representation.

      I realize that responding to someone who is ignoring the fact that those held at Gitmo are not “people of the United States” (indeed they would be deeply offended if you suggested that, would reject such a label and try to kill you for suggesting it) but let’s try it.

      To be a person “of the United States” I would presume that they would WANT to be a person of the United States and would be willing to follow its laws as promulgated under the Constitution. The fact that these individuals have come under the military’s control while under suspicion of fighting against our armed forces and are now held in a FOREIGN location is secondary to their desire to a person of anything other than the United States.

      Let’s assume we ignore that and say that we would extend our protections to them, the location does matter. Gitmo is part of Cuba. We occupy it as a military base under a lease. Many Democrats tried to argue that McCain wasn‘t a citizen because he wasn’t born in America (he was born in the Canal Zone). Can’t have it both ways.

      So let’s summarize, you want to extend the protections of the “people of the United States” to those who don’t want to be “of the United States” who are not actually IN the United States. I‘m sorry but it just doesn’t make any sense to me. That would seem to be a massive case of political imperialism and an assumption that our political system trumps any other in the world.
