Moammar Gadhafi’s forces in the Libyan city of Misrata have reportedly been issued gas masks, a sign that Gadhafi may be preparing to use chemical weapons against rebels.
The Washington Times reports:
Col. Moammar Gadhafi’s troops in and around the rebel-held western Libyan city of Misrata have been issued gas masks, a sign that the regime may be preparing to use chemical weapons, rebels told The Washington Times on Wednesday.
The regime is thought to have about 9 tons of poisonous mustard gas at a secret desert location near Col. Gadhafi’s hometown, Sirte, multiple sources in Libya said.
Meanwhile, in New York, a special prosecutor for the International Criminal Court appeared before the U.N. Security Council to describe what he called “evidence” of “widespread and systematic” attacks on civilians by Col. Gadhafi’s forces.

Posted on May 6, 2011 at 2:43pmSorry but 35,000 have been killed in Mexico since 2006, their citizens are flooding our country, bearing children and gaining access to and draining our entitlement systems dry. How can you ignore 35,000 deaths and not call it a slaughter? How can you ignore the harm of what unchecked illegal immigration has done. Close to 70% of Hispanics (mostly children of illegals) drop out of high school in Los Angeles and 82% of all immigrants in Los Angeles that lack a high school diploma consume multiple entitlements for their entire lives. Sorry that is not a sustainable path.
Mexico represents a greater threat to our country than Syria or Ivory Coast. They are also our neighbors and while there are some La Raza Re Conquista types, they are not followers of islam, they do not want to kill us if we do not submit to their god or draw a picture of some old guy. They do not stone adultery to death nor do they blow themselves up in the name of god. Id rather send troops in to Mexico to wipe out the cartels seizing hundreds of millions in the process that can immediately be injected in to jobs & infrastructure. Helping establish a legit government that funnels its oil revenues in to their economy & programs will go a longer way than lobbing a few hundred cruise missiles & boots on the ground in Lybia, Sudan, Ivory Coast etc. If we continue to engage in the middle east while illegal’s drain our country dry and violence spills over in to our country, there will not be muc

Posted on May 6, 2011 at 1:32pmI don’t think we should have gotten into this one, because we don’t even know who the rebels are, BUT
if this threat is real, The U.N. should drop leaflets on Momo’s army, with a clear message. Use the gas and all hell will rain down on you – all of you. If after it’s over, you want to whine that you were just following orders, that’s okay. Go ahead and whine..and then we will kill you – every last one of you. So all of you Lybian soldiers had better make sure you don’t follow orders, and it doesn’t happen. There will be no quarter. every member of the army will be held responsible.
There have been something like 360 wars around the world since the U.N was chartered.
The U.N. has been able to settle all but … 358 of them.
They settled two conflicts, and one of them was The Korean “Police Action”. If the U.N. doesn’t settle this one, it should be scrapped. How many trillions of American dollars have we r“edistributed” to these losers since 1947, without getting any positive results? EVER!

I will take great comfort if we go forward with his ouster and they find NO gas canisters. Then Obama will have gone down a similar path that the Bush administration did with the UMD reports in Iraq.
The Colonel internationally is a pig. He has been involved in terrorism in the past. He has tried to obtain nuclear devices in the past. But my research, so far, has not found any information saying he has committed atrocities on his own people. My sense is this is a ruse to make it more palitable to involve The United States further in what should be a domestic issue for Libya.

Now, I realize some of these are so much hot air from all sides of the political realm of the middle east, yet the sheer number of them have the one common thread – Iran paying the rebels for the weapons to go to the enemies of Israel.

It is a great question eric! If an uprising in a country that includes innocent civilans is now the basis for American intervention then we will be entering quite a few countries over the coming years. If this is now the basis for our intervention here are a few countries in the recent past we would have had to “invade” to protect civilians:
Iran – Last summers protests.
China – Tiananmen Square protets.
Russia – http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/05/31/us-russia-opposition-idUSTRE64U49320100531
A number Russian satellites
Other countries currently experiencing unrest in which civilians have been hurt:
Tunisia
Yemen
Syria

Why are we supporting ANY nation other than Israel in the Middle East? Why are we still in Iraq and Afganistan? Why are we sending money to ANY other country who refuses to support us? Why do we continue to build the coffers of Saudi and other oil producing nations? Why do we give away our own resources rather than use it for ourselves, not to speak of giving Brazil 2 Billion and let them drill in the Gulf and restrict our own drilling in the same waters?
