Is Jimmy Carter the Latest Democrat Politician to Undermine Obama? Wait Until You Read His Latest Op-Ed

While the president’s detractors have long drawn unflattering parallels between Jimmy Carter‘s presidency and Barack Obama’s, it seems even Jimmy Carter is starting to distance himself from the president.
In a Sunday New York Times article titled “A Cruel and Unusual Record,” Carter blasts the administration‘s foreign policy decisions and the implications for the United States’ “moral authority” around the world.
He wrote:
Revelations that top officials are targeting people to be assassinated abroad, including American citizens, are only the most recent, disturbing proof of how far our nation’s violation of human rights has extended….
[...]
Recent legislation has made legal the president’s right to detain a person indefinitely on suspicion of affiliation with terrorist organizations or “associated forces,” a broad, vague power that can be abused without meaningful oversight from the courts or Congress…This law violates the right to freedom of expression and to be presumed innocent until proved guilty, two other rights enshrined in the [Declaration of Human Rights].
In addition to American citizens’ being targeted for assassination or indefinite detention, recent laws have canceled the restraints in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 to allow unprecedented violations of our rights to privacy through warrantless wiretapping and government mining of our electronic communications. Popular state laws permit detaining individuals because of their appearance, where they worship or with whom they associate.
Despite an arbitrary rule that any man killed by drones is declared an enemy terrorist, the death of nearby innocent women and children is accepted as inevitable. After more than 30 airstrikes on civilian homes this year in Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai has demanded that such attacks end, but the practice continues in areas of Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen that are not in any war zone. We don’t know how many hundreds of innocent civilians have been killed in these attacks, each one approved by the highest authorities in Washington. [Emphasis added]
While it‘s true that Carter criticizes America’s decisions in general, not just the president’s, ABC’s Jake Tapper tweeted: “Jimmy Carter couches this as criticism of the nation, but it‘s really shot after shot at President Obama’s policies.”
(Related: Newark Mayor Cory Booker Breaks Ranks, Hits Obama for Anti-Romney Bain Ad)
Carter’s criticism follows weeks of what many have deemed “sabotage” to the Obama re-election effort by former president Bill Clinton. Even the Associated Press asked “What is going on?” after Clinton came out against the president’s stated agenda time after time.
Watch a recap of the gaffes with former Clinton advisor Dick Morris, via Fox News:
Some speculate that Clinton really wants to be back in the White House as the “first husband” and knows that his chances are greatly reduced if Obama wins a second term, while others hypothesize the former president doesn’t want to see another four years of economic stagnation under the Obama administration.
“Is this the most passive‑aggressive stuff you’ve ever seen?” Glenn Beck asked on his radio show.
Whatever the motivations, the Obama administration can’t be happy with two former presidents seemingly undermining him every time he turns his back.

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 12:42amThe first and most important job of a president is to protect America. This is why, although I’m not a big fan of President Obama, that I give him a lot of credit for going after those who would kill us. His extensive use of drones eliminates unneccessary civilian casualties that would result from more extensive bombing. Furthermore, and even more importantly, the drone program vastly reduces the possibility of American troops being hurt or killed while serving in a war zone. It‘s too bad that Jimmy Carter doesn’t like it. Carter had his chance to enhance American life for our great Republic, but he turned out to be a well-spoken dud. There’s nothing that he can do or say that will change history. He’d be better off continuing his charity work for Habitat for Humanity than spending his time dumping on Obama and telling the world that his friends, the Moslem Brotherhood, are wonderful people.

Stupid just happens to sit in the chair. Note how it appears they pulled him in off the Golf Course for the photo op re: Bin Laden (the leader of that effort would be well settled in a head of table position…not squatting on the floor (hurry up and let me get back to my game).
Report Post »If he/his people in the Oval Office had not leaked vital security intel. then maybe I could manage a bit of praise, but not the way he’s treated our Country – tried to wreck everything we hold dear, decent and Patriotic.
Think of it this way: DEMS get both Houses in 2006; wage an all-out attack on our country; force banks to make sub-prime loans; threaten to cut military budget in half. Our boys in Tampa are not stupid. They also know the FIGHT MUST CONTINUE regardless of the dope in the WH. ALL of the drone efforts came from our Generals, not little-golfer-boy.

You don’t use “extensive bombing” to go after individuals – drone attacks are (typically) targeted at one or two people. Drones spare US & Allied troops the danger of going after individuals in-person, helping to keep our soldiers safe.

You are correct when you say that the first job of any president is to protect the American people but now that drones will be used here in America what would you think when our own citizens are killed by these same drones? Are our citizens more important than any other citizen in this world? Do you believe that America should be there in the first place and if you do just why are we there in the first place? As far as Muslim brotherhood is concerned you have a short memory. Obama, Clinton put the brotherhood in power and when the Caliphate comes into play with Sharia law you can blame this Clinton, Obama and their DC gang for the entire Arab Spring. Clinton was actually cheering when Gaddafi was murdered.and both were elated when Mubarak was dethroned. Whose money brought down Libya and Egypt? The problem in this country is the short memory of the American people who paid for all of this.

Seems to me he just wasn’t voted a second term compared to Nixon who was voted two terms and ultimately forced to resign. Before Nixon, Johnson had tape recorders installed through out the WH to capture his every conversation. Nixon left them intact and was forced to resign because he had not destroyed the evidence. So, who was the dumbest? And how do you have a perspective as to who is dumbest ever unless you were reborn every 4-8 yrs. since Washington? Geo Bush 40 was not elected a 2nd term either. Why? No more taxes, no more taxes.

What qualifies a person to be president is stated in the Constitution and we the people decide. Fact is Obama is black according to the government who labels all of us. Posted on June 26, 2012 at 11:05amI don’t disagree with you per se, Barber. However, I see differences in the two situattions. During the Carter administration the U.S. was attacked as it is pretty universally recognized that an Embassy property is the property of the invited country , not the property of the host country. So when our Embassy in Tehran was attacked and the hostages were taken I believe we had every legal right to consider that a direct attack on U.S. soil. I was fully in favor of going in at that point with the full force of our military, if necessary, to bring that to an end. Carter chose to try negotiations and one very small and failed incursion. That was his failure. You can’t negotiate with terrorists.
In my mind, it became evident that force would have been the correct path when all the hostages were released at almost the exact time that Reagan was inaugurated. The terrorists knew that Reagan would not play games even if it meant every hostage would have been lost.
The difference I see with Egypt is that they are a sovereign country who have had a fair election and the MB won. I’m not happy with the outcome, but I am not in favor of our getting involved in any way with it. When we elected President Obama I wasn’t happy with that outcome either, but I would not have been in favor of any foreign interference to change that outcome. By the way, I‘m only using President Obama in my example because it’s the most recent election. Many R’s have disappointed me as wel
