Is Osama bin Laden Plotting a European Attack?

WASHINGTON – U.S. counterterrorism officials say they believe that senior al-Qaida leaders, including Osama bin Laden, are involved in the latest terror plot against European cities.Is Osama bin Laden Plotting a European Attack?

The multi-pronged scope of the emerging plan – which aimed to launch coordinated shooting sprees or attacks in Britain, France and Germany – is an al-Qaida hallmark. One U.S. intelligence official added, however, that the details of how the plan was directed or coordinated by the group’s core leaders is not yet clear.

The involvement of bin Laden and his core leaders, believed to be in hiding in Pakistan, underscores concerns about that country’s role as a safe haven for al-Qaida and other Islamic extremists. U.S. officials have pressed Pakistan to increase its efforts to root out the militants hiding in the mountainous border region.

Several officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence information.

Bin Laden’s role in the European plot was first reported by NPR.

Counterterrorism officials said that they are now working under the assumption that bin Laden played a role in the plotting, but they would not detail what indications they’ve seen that lead them in that direction.

One senior U.S. official, meanwhile, discounted any involvement in the Europe terror plot by al-Qaida’s North African affiliate. While al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb is very dangerous in its region and may want to export its terror operations to Europe, there are no indications that it is able to do that at this time, said the official.

A Pakistani intelligence official said Thursday that eight Germans and two British brothers are at the heart of the terror plot, which is still in its early stages. One of the Britons was killed in a recent CIA missile strike, he said.

Pakistan, Britain and Germany are tracking the suspects and intercepting their phone calls, the official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information to the media.

The U.S. has dramatically stepped up its missile attacks in North Waziristan, and is believed to have launched at least 21 this month. The covert campaign is largely carried out by CIA drones, and has led to the deaths of a number of top militant leaders.

Pakistan has complained vocally about the program but is believed to provide intelligence assistance for at least some of the strikes.

    French-bashers should be overjoyed at this bit of news. Like the Palistinians who were dancing in the streets upon hearing of the 9/11 attacks, French-bashers of America will also dance in the streets when France is hit by terrorist attacks.

    The timing of this alert by the State Department is puzzling – so close to the congressional elections.
    With this administration, who knows what “truth” is anymore. We shall see how things play out before November 2. As far as Osama Bin Laden, possible he was killed in the Pakistan border earthquake a few years ago and his “cave” destroyed. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I will keep an open mind as things unfold. The left, in its angst and anger, and determination to stay in power
    will find many ways to distract from the issues of the day by using fear tactics and lies.
    Stay alert, weigh the information, and as Glenn Beck reminds us – question with boldness.

    It’s time for the world to say: “One more peep out of Bin Ladin & terrorists, Mecca will be bombed. Then, a mosque will be burned in each European country and the U.S. every single day, until they go back to their tents and camels.” This is the only language they will understand.

    All I can say is that the CIA is not making any progress. If I were the director of the CIA, I would have captured Osama bin Laden by now. Obviously, nothing is being done to make it happen.

    I support going to kill bin Laden by using any and ALL force necessary because he personally attacked us. If we do not kill him there WILL be another 9/11, and there probably will be another one even if we do. It’s just a matter of when it will happen.

    But, I personally don’t care if he attacks Europe. That is not our problem. I’m tired of the US sending young men and women to die because someone else got attacked. I’m tired of being the “world’s police force.” Which was started by the Progressives (TR and “Big Stick Policy”). Other countries have militaries too so let them sort it out. IT’S NOT OUR BUSINESS!

    Don’t get me wrong, though. I do support our military and all military personnel and think they are doing an outstanding job given the circumstances. There is nobody I have more respect for than a US military soldier. But, I do not support how our military is being used.

    Can the guy still be alive? As a kidney transplant reciepient I can tell you that it was a rough ride until I had my operation. If he is still among the living, he is either on dialysis three days a week or he got a transplant him-self. Do you remember all the look-alikes that Sadam Hussein had? I wonder could some of these videos be of them instead? They were pretty convincing doubles? If he did get a new kidney he would have to be extremely careful against anything that could affect is nonexistent immune system. He probably had somebody kocked off to get a transplant .

Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden is just planning a shopping trip. If he’s protected by the Koran, then there’s no need to hide, in fact, Barack Hussein Obama Jr would be interested in meeting with him.

      the worry is that in doing so we may end up having pakistan wanting to go to war with us. Unfortunatley it may be neccessary to wipe them out to eliminate the threat of terrorism from this group for good. The taliban are invading india and killing people by the hundreds, whole villages get wiped out, women, children, and elders. They call them indefels. I would suggest we team up with India to start the campain from that side. India has lot of soldiers they only lack the leadership. IMO

      There is no motivation for Obama to find and kill Bin Laden. Obama is an anti-colonialist, and as long as Bin Laden is not engaged in attacks directly upon US soil, I guarantee he is of the belief that the “oppressed” have the right to fight against any “oppressors”. See their recent attitudes towards Israel and Palestine as an example. I’m not saying Obama supports terrorist groups, it’s just that he believes they are justified in their fight against their enemies – this administration wants to distance itself from any such fighting. In Obama’s mind, we are the largest Colonial power on earth, and that we need to stop playing the part of the oppressor anywhere on the globe. He is trying to get us to withdrawl from Afghanistan as quickly as possible, whether our military objectives are met or not – including the objectives of capturing or killing terrorists.

      We need to reverse the path the potus and political elites has set, cut all social programs and yes those union pensions will have to go. we can save what we can for those that are near retirement but those with the ability to rebuild will have to accept it . BUT YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO DO IT ALONE WE ARE ALL AMERICANS AND WE WILL HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER. Union non union black white male female we are one nation and we must never be divided. we can survive this by working hard, and taking it upon ourselves to help those who are in need ourselves and not let them only depend on the government. that is why we are where we are we need to help each other because that is what is required. I will start by taking my own advice. I am unemployed myself, been for 8 months but i am disgusted with myself for wallowing is self pity. i no of many who are having a harder time and i am going to do something about it

      i am capable of fixing anything so im starting with a neighbor who cant get her car fixed she is 67 a widow and cant afford the repair bill. so tomorrow im going to go fix it for her then im going to my church and putting up a notice on the bulletin board and at all the local grocery stores offering my services to those in need for free. If we look out for those in need our needs will also be met by divine providence

      Take him out! The most this Administration would do is TAKE HIM OUT to a fancy restaurant and ask him to join the cause on the tax payers dime. And I’m with ya PSYCHOSIS!!! We have to remember: when we are helping others with their hardships, we forget about our own hardships and miseries. And the reward for helping a neighbor in need and giving of yourselves quality time IS the ability to overcome harsh realities and circumstances with a focused mind and utter JOY!
