Fox News: Steele Will Not Seek Re-Election

Amid talk of RNC Chairman Michael Steele’s announcement regarding his re-election campaign, multiple news outlets are reporting that the embattled GOP leader will not seek a second term.

“Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is expected to announce he will drop out of the highly contested race to keep his post,” Fox quotes unnamed sources as saying.

The news outlet confirmed that Steele sent a confidential e-mail to committee members on Saturday asking them to join him for a “private conference call” on Monday.

Politico confirms the reports with a story of its own. “[K]ey supporters expect him to drop out of the hotly contested race,” its story says.

The outlet adds that Steele “has built no known reelection team or structure, making the prospect of a campaign unlikely in the face of competition that grows fiercer by the day.”

Steele has become wildly unpopular within the party. He is generally seen as unable to raise money and lacking the leadership skills necessary to lead the party. In fact, a recent staff member criticized Steele’s leadership in a scathing resignation letter and a website has even popped up supporting his defeat.

Challengers for Steele’s chairmanship, Politico says, include: Wisconsin Republican Chairman Reince Priebus; Ann Wagner of Missouri, former co-chair of the RNC; Maria Cino, who is backed by former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie and former Vice President Dick Cheney; Saul Anuzis, former Michigan Republican chairman; and Gentry Collins, who served as RNC political director until last month.

@ Lotus: Please don’t bastardize the Judge! He’s one of the few true, honest to goodness libertarian voices out there. His talents would be wasted on the Repubs, otherwise known (in my world) as DemLite. Let’s shoot for new direction, not just downshift so we can go slower in the same direction. We‘ll need the Judge’s talent then.

PS: Apologies to DeMint, Bachman, Thune, Chaffitz and a small handful of other DC R’s for the DemLite comment.

This is a good thing. The RNC has been terrible to the Tea Party. It is my hope that they will elect a solid Constitutional Conservative who can motivate the base. There are a lot of “good ol’ boys” there, however. Let‘s hope the RINOs don’t try to put one of their own in the place of Steele. That would effectively signal the end of the Republican party as far as I am concerned.

Steel got elected because he was black. Not because of his talents.
Hussein had just got elected. Republicans wanted to show they also were not racists.
Um,note to republicans, no matter what you do, you’ll still be called racists by the dem (aka communist party) and their corporate branch, the MSM.
I think the republican should nominate David Duke for this position. After-all if you are gonna be called racist no matter what you do.(even if you nominate Jesus) may as wel elect a real racist. :-)
Um, the last sentence was a joke.
But wait and see. If a white guy gets it, the dems will say,”See they only made Steel Chairman after we made Hussein a black man president. Now they are trying to force him out behind the scene since he’s served his purpose of Affirmative Action”

Ken Blackwell was in the running previously and if he’s available now would be a stellar choice as we seek to truncate Mr. Obama and his Reds.

Not because he‘s Black but because he’s so bright and so capable of motivating conservatives to contribute to and fight for victories.

Everyone talks about everyone, but when your the head of an organization as important as this. Then you need to keep your comments to yourself, it doesn‘t matter who is the head of the party as long as they don’t say something that hurts the party. That’s what you get paid for. The Democrats on the other hand, have no problems with sticking their foot in their mouths.

Why do we feel like we need another Black Person for this position? What happened to the other folks? Are we trying to be politically correct? Are we trying to assuage the Black people so that they will consider being part of the GOP? Why can’t we articulate our vision of jobs, fiscal responsibility, smaller government, and transparency as conservatives and recognize that Black people also subscribe to these conservative principles and win them that way? Why the pandering?

      RationalMan,
How idiotic is it to spend untold tons of public capital policing things that continue to go on? Last time I checked, all these “detriments” were not only still existing, but thriving. What’s not rational is to outlaw activity that the government subsidizes by other means.

End all the “Social” programs that place an economic backstop to the “users”, and you’ll curtail the problem naturally. For example: A heroin addict can go ahead and use, but not be protected if their job suffers nor compensated by the government if not employed. They’ll either quit using and straighten up on their own, or starve to death. End of the problem with zero public dollars spent.

Libertarian “freedom” means that you are responsible for your actions in all cases. Seems rational to me.

It’s never wise to poke the eye of people who are trying to be your allies. Libertarians provide the intellectual ammunition and consistency that the conservatives use in crafting their own world view.

Really don’t care about party politics, but since we are forced to live in a two party system, then the repubs. are our only hope. So, since we are stuck with them, then we need them to have great conservative leadership and this is definately not Steele. Hopefully the party will get the message of the last election and elect a party head who lays out a platform in line with what we the people want. And bus tours like “fire Pelosi” aren’t going to get it. We need bold ideas layed out there and championed by all repubs., they need to get organized and work as one. They looked weak during the last election with all the infighting over canidates like Angle and O’Donnell. Make a declaration of good, common sense, conservative ideas, and stick with them, no compromise, no back door dealing, take charge, Do whats right for us, the people of this great nation, not whats right for the party, or what looks goods.

You might be on to something with Palin for the chair. I don‘t think she is experienced enough to be president but I think she would be a good figurehead for the party and an indication of the party’s direction.

On this other issue about Michael Steele having his job because he is black; that is nothing but BS. Republicans get little credit for it but, they are very good at placing competent minorities in positions of authority. He is there because he has talent not because of some backwards affirmative action. His comments about the Tea Party are the real reason he needs to go. He is no longer a good figurehead for the Republican Party but that’s no reason to disrespect him.

In the case of Sarah Palin, yes she would make a good leader for the Republican Party as long as she did not compromise on her values and integrity. If not as the leader of the Right, then allowing her to work with the conservatives and the tea parties to make changes in the land, getting people who will put America and her ideals first and always ahead of themselves, would be good as well.

I can see her as a director for events, such as the campaign fund raising or such, and while I do think she would be a great President, some additional exposure and experience would help round out things to see how she stands up and stands out.

One thing though, is people consistantly underestimate her and her abilities.
