A website — Forecast the Facts – devoted to calling out weather forecasters who aren’t convinced of man-made global warming and informing them about “the most important weather story of our lifetime” launched Sunday.

In addition to drawing criticism from some meteorologists, the site also seems to have a curious connection with billionaire George Soros.

Michael Lewis and Anthony Watts write on the Watt’s Up With That? (WUWT) blog that Forecast the Facts partner, Citizen’s Engagement Laboratory — a “non-profit, non-partisan organization that uses digital media and technology to amplify the voices of underrepresented constituencies” — has received funding from George Soros in the past.

Receiving a tip from a reader identified as Jan, Watts — a former meteorologist with 25 years of on air experience who runs the blog as commentary on the “puzzling things in life, nature, science, weather, climate change, technology, and recent news” — along with Lewis, his co-author for this post who holds a Ph.D., show that Soros donated money to CEL and “its projects, Color of Change (CoC) and Presenté.”

CEL is co-directed by  James Rucker, who co-founded Color of Change with Van Jones in 2005 to help “strengthen Black America’s political voice”.

Forecast the Facts went live on Sunday to coordinate with the timing of the American Meteorological Society’s annual meeting in the hopes of gaining signatures from the association to “pass a strong statement on climate change” — its current statement is set to expire Feb. 1.

“This is an important moment in the history of the AMS,” Daniel Souweine, the campaign’s director, said in the release. “It’s well known that large numbers of meteorologists are climate change deniers. It’s essential that the AMS Council resist pressure from these deniers and pass the strong statement currently under consideration.”

According to the Forecast the Facts website, a little more than 50 percent of meteorologists “deny human-induced climate change.”

Among other things, what Watts and Lewis take issue with the fact that CEL, a Forecast the Facts partner along with 350.org and League of Conservation Voters, in that it states it is a “non-partisan organization”, when they find it clearly has some partisan undertones. The WUWT post notes that CEL is located in a building in Berkeley, Calif., that describes the organization as with “key progressive messages”.

Looking at web servers with the same domain IP address as Forecast the Facts, the authors state, “you discover a whole flock of political activist websites” (see their screenshot below).

WUWT notes the following about some of the organizations in the list above:

Turn Off Fox, “bastadobbs” (to get Lou Dobbs fired from CNN), occupyhomes ( an occupywallstreet spinoff), and trail2010 (a website pushing a vote for the Dream Act) are just a few of the “non-partisan” websites run by the same outfit on the same server.

Watts and Lewis believe that the campaign to educate meteorologists on man-made climate change “is Big Money come to the service of shadowy figures in the background of international politics and economics.”

In a response to criticism about the campaign, Forecast the Facts has written that “when the National Academy of Sciences, the U.S. Military, and the insurance industry all agree that humans are a leading cause of climate change, when prediction after prediction of climate models is borne out, when highly trained and incredibly learned professionals tell us that the window for action is closing, and when the effects of inaction are going to negatively impact millions if not billions of lives, it is simply not acceptable for professional journalists (that is, after all, what broadcast meteorologists are) to refuse to inform their viewers of this information, or worse to say that these things that directly contradict these facts. ”

Forecast the Facts compares meteorologists avoiding what it considers widely held climate science to doctors refusing to tell patients that smoking does not cause lung cancer. Forecast the Facts states that it sees the American Meteorological Association as having a responsibility to address the issue of climate change strongly in its new statement as many broadcast meteorologists are its members:

[....] in our eyes, there is only one way for them to appropriately comport themselves — quickly pass a statement that is consistent with the current scientific consensus, and then vigorously promote that statement to their members. Anything short of this would be a derilection of their duty as a scientific association.

Forecast the Fact is identifying meteorologists‘ position on climate change and is encouraging citizens to email them tips as to their meteorologists’ stance. So far, 52 meteorologists have been identified. Forecast the Facts is calling out meteorologists on their website who don’t believe in man-made global warming, including what it believes are incriminating quotes on this stance.     I just don’t know how our laws protect these people who wish to destroy or country. What kind of laws are these? We have laws that permit others to destroy us, absurd? Smart ass constitutional lawyers like Judge Napolitano and Mark Levin will not entertain any notion as to the procedures that would bring these criminals, including Obama, to justice. They just won’t talk about it. When our laws kill us, there is something seriously wrong with the law.
    I‘m an engineer and can’t understand the limited logic of lawyers. We live in different realities. Mark Levin’s new book, Ameritopia, needs to be edited by an engineer, a general and a businessman. Worth reading anyway.
    They talk about natural laws. How about the laws of physics? Can’t get more natural than that. Self protection and survival are natural reactions programed into us by God himself. Any of man’s laws that oppose this reality should be ignored. These awful men are permitted to destroy us and are protected by lawyers and judges. Natural laws trump man made laws when survival is the issue. I want to hear just one presidential candidate stand up and say that when he or she is elected, he or she will arrest Obama and Sorros and try them for crimes against the state. We must find such legal minds that really understand natural law to bring this to fruition, ‘legally.’

Forcast the Facts is a “partner” of CEL, although there is no indication at all what type of relationship the “partnership” is. At some time in the past, maybe 20 years ago, George Soros made a charitable contribution to CEL.

      I think we must be playing that “six degrees of separation” game here. Using connections like those, you can link any two people or organizations in the world together with just a couple of “dots” being connected.

      Besides, global warming is an issue of science, not politics, despite what Rushbo tells you.

      AGW is political. It is a hoax to destroy capitalism. When a scientist’s well being is threatened by the withdrawal of government funds, he provides proof for junk his science. Since when is carbon dioxide a pollutant? Plants thrive on it and we breath it out. It forms on average of 0.037% of the atmosphere. You increase this percentage of CO2 in your backyard green house to accelerate growth. The earth would benefit from an increase of CO2 and higher temps. It is just a convenient way to spread the wealth by forced taxation. Most people belive it. George Sorros and others have a vested interest in this junk science. The attempt at this connection is therefore valid. QED.

      Jaycen, you’re right in a sense. Science can’t “prove” that cigarettes cause cancer. That’s would involve taking a large group of young teens, forcing half of them to smoke and not allowing the other half to smoke. Then waiting 30 years to see who gets cancer and who doesn’t. Even then it’s not “proof” no matter what the results. Conclusions from induction are never “proof” in the same way mathematical proofs are (given an agreed on set of assumptions).

      Scientists never proved lead gasoline, paint and other lead based products raised lead levels in Americans and caused nerve damage in young children exposed to elevated levels. Yet, lead gasoline was banned despite the advantages of lead compounds in gasoline. The oil companies and those invested in them protested as you are now against greenhouse emissions. But it was done, and everyone now agrees that was a good idea.

      Companies have always objected on financial grounds that it would cost them more money to not pollute the air, water and ground. Nobody could “prove” that was a problem, that dumping suspected human carcinogens (there are no “proven” human carcinogens in the sense you use the word) in the environment ever hurt anyone. But now that’s illegal, despite the lack of proof.

      You’re on the wrong side of history friend.

      @ phantom , thanks very well said but sadly your explanation will fall mostly on deaf ears. We used to say to guys like them that if you don’t like the US go to Venezuela or Cuba. In this case if you don’t like “ climate change ” move to Venus or maybe even better the “red” planet Mars!

      Hello all first timer here. I would like to put this global warming thing into perspective. Something that no one seems to approach. CO2 is only .038 percent of our atmosphere. That’s a very small for an inert, clear gas. Projections converted from ppm’s (which most don’t understand) to percentage would be up from .038 to .04 percent an insignificant increase if it is indeed true. So it will increase from 38 parts of CO2 per 100,000 parts of air to 40 parts per 100,000 parts per air. To understand even better, change the part to drops or gallons or any other units of measure you can visualize.
      By the way sorry for jumping in on you Phantom. I do I actually do a new post?

      Keep in mind that the commie progressives control the schools from K-12 through college so if they can’t coerce these meteorologist to spread the global warming scam on their nightly broadcasts they will just create the next batch of new indoctrinated meteorologist straight from the college campuses, it’s only a matter of time. The only reason they are trying to force the current batch of meteorologists to spew the lefts lies is because the left is impatient and wants their global warming tax money now rather than 15-20 years from now.

      if you go back to last ice age about 10,000 years ago, build a graph of temps, polar ice etc and have end date of today. The line will be a straight decline from 10,000 years ago. The same crowd that is blaming people is the same crowd that blames America first. Coincidince?

      @ The Rights of Billy, Funny that you mentioned the rising seas that most AGCC supporters scream at the top of their lungs as the worst fate to soon befall man. I’ve done some simple research with an icecube and water, and it turns out that sea ice cannot raise the sea levels when it melts. Something about buoyancy and displacement of water being equal to the volume that the ice will take up when melted. So that means that only glaciers on land can contribute to rising oceans. I then did some rather uncomplicated geometry and found the change in volume of the oceans if the water were to rise one meter (~3 feet). Suffice it to say that even if all the water on land were to flow into the seas, water would not rise high enough to take out more than a couple rows of beach homes. Now, obviously, all the ice in the world is not going to melt because we have this thing called seasons that keeps it cold half the time.

      I’m personally more worried about the couple thousandths of an inch of water we get every year from meteors, comets, and space debris on a consistent basis. At that rate it will only take millions of years to put Florida under water. WHAT CAN WE DO TO STOP THE MADNESS???

      I doubt most people here (myself included) know for a fact if there is or is not man-made global warming. We hear talking points pro and con and have to then formulate an opinion, which is most likely more often than not politically based instead of science based.

      It does make perfect sense to want to stop as much pollution as we can — there certainly cannot be a good argument for polluting the very earth we live on, especially since it’s kinda hard to trade it in for another one. However, at the same time, it makes no sense to make claims that there is no proof of. I hear that global warming is happening on all planets, thus it cannot be man-made. I do not know if that’s true, unfortunately. My gut tells me man is not significant to destroy this earth, but he certainly can cause problems.

      What the opposing side to global warming has failed to do over and over and over is show just WHY it’s not man that is causing this. Educate the public, period. Give us verifiable facts we can check on so we can make a better informed decision. This is the same thing with the tax debate about 15% not being a ‘fair-share’ for millionaires. Why is it not a fair share? Educate the public! The left does a great job of putting out their information and their talking points and the conservatives seem to suck at it. Tell Joe the Plumber‘s employees why Joe’s 15% tax rate on his capital gains income is fair and equitable so they understand the debate.

      Regardless of what Rushbo tells us, if even a single region of the earth gets colder after one year, then it means that whatever may be the cause of warming in other regions, it’s not global.

      Remember: It was considered “settled science” that Global Warming was happening – so to now try to call it Climate Change is an admission that the environuts were wrong. The Hockey Stick graph was manufactured to prove Global Warming, not Climate Change.

    I Believe in Freedom Of Religion,but there are only 2 religions that disrupt my life and effect me negatively.Al Gore’s Religion and Islam. AL Gore’s may even be worse.With all products trying to be Al Gore friendly,prices have gone up ridiculously on food.It Is taught as Fact in schools.My Local taxes go to support Al Gore’s Churches…I Mean Public School.     Having served as a meteorologist for over twenty years, the thought that MAN has anything to do with controlling or affecting this planet is as stupid (or “stupidly” as your puppet in the WH says) as thinking that of a pimple on a rhinos ass will keep the rhino from charging. The rhino is going to do what ever it wants to regardless of that pustule and so too will good old Mother Earth keep trucking despite MAN. How arrogant!
    Change and light are the only two physical constants the exist in the universe…and both have a greater effect on global climate change than MAN.

    So the only people who have a background in this area, study it on a daily basis and by and large don’t believe in it are being attacked by people who have no background in this area, don’t study it on a daily basis and believe whole heartedly in it. Weatherpersons get paid either way, while the alarmists only get paid when they get fools to believe them. Securing scientific funding is the hardest thing for a scientist, so telling the choir what they want to hear leads to more paychecks.

    this is the first I’ve heard that over 50% of meteorologists don’t believe in man made global warming, this is the headline! We’ve had a mild winter in New England and I am in favor of promoting global warming. I’m putting out as much CO as possible to warm it up. What a money making con the whole thing is.

    I hate this phrase. The libs need to change it to “deny our definition of human-induced climate change.”
    There are many who believe humans are having an effect, but that it is not as high or as threatening as “they” say it is. Warming is not the biggest threat to humans right now. It has become a witch hunt. Do you know why most scientists say there is a problem? It is because if they do not, they could be discredited, disfunded, and ridiculed, even if their data is sound. Read The Deniers by Lawrence Solomon. He details the findings of scientists who counter what the warmists are saying, and what happened to some of them when they did.

      Ehrlich’s “Population Time Bomb” influenced a lot of tinkers of the second half of the 20th century. It made a lasting impression on one Maurice Strong, a Canadian “philantropher” and “entrepreneur”.

      During 1980′s he was trying to find the way to manifest his ideas (that were close to the Club Rome paradigm of sustainability). He tried many things, many some of which did not work out. But he did not lose a sight of the idea of global warming, that by the irony of fate was a bogus theory that was promoted by Margaret Thatcher to secure consent for building more nuclear plants in UK.

      Maurice thought that if the right is using it, why not him, a socialist to his core. He did inject himself into different UN agendas, related to environment. By the late eighties, He met one George Soros, in person, and the two got to like each other practically immediately. Maurice explained to George his warming ideas and George’s mind clicked with unflinching consensus–Maurice was onto something–a tool that was so far missing; something that people can adapt voluntarily to embrace more just and happier political-economic system.

      In 1992, the project got into a full swing, with Maurice introducing the AGW concept at a UN sponsored environmental conference in Rio de Janeiro.

      George set up some fronts to disburse funding and some other people were plugged in to broadcast the idea in academia, to gather some scaffolding support from them. Once that was secured with some key figures (Mann), they turned to politicos and found a very responsive candidate in Al Gore.

      And the rest is history. From the inception, the AGW was a fraud, a scam. Whether it was irresponsibly utilized by Thatcher, or plugged in a progressive remaking of society concept, it is still a scam and by far, probably one that takes a cream of scams.

      It is at the moment in an ER unit, because of the Warmingate (leak of “Hide the decline” emails), but they try as mighty as they may to revive the half-dead corpse.

    A better question is “Why would he be doing this?”. If he is doing it, what purpose does it serve? What does he get out of it? At some point it has to increase his wealth. It’s all about money and power for Soros. For that matter, why does he push the environmental schtick anyway? What’s he hedging against?

      Firebrand, yea, Hitler was what would be considered an enviromentalist. He would be also a favorite PETA personage as he was a vegetarian.

      But Soros … it’s not about money. He’s got plenty and bored with it. Now the question is what to do with it. What has even better lucre shine than money? Power.

      He thinks that because he was able to con nations of their wealth, he may be a god. And he wants to try that god thing to its full potential.

      He set some goals and because life is short, he does not have much time for his experiment to manifest.He would like to see the results in his lifetime.

      1. He thinks that humans are evil. It is based on a simple self-reflection. He is projecting his traits on the rest of us. Thus, a logical conclusion is that less humans equals less evil. Therefore, he wants to scale human population herd down to the figures that were derived by Club Rome as a boundary of sustainability (500 million).

      2. He is convinced that the popular categorization of humans as sheep and wolves is essentially correct. Wolves, by the nature of their traits, are on the top of the food chain. And they do provide a service to the sheep herd–taking out the weak and not so able, keeping the herd healthy. And wolves have a natural hierarchy and he is the alpha wolf. God-wolf.

      So, he is in fact a do-gooder, don’t you see?

      Actually, Malaysia believes quite strongly that their evidence would land Soros in a slammer for the rest of his miserable life, though some are adamant there about making him shorter by a few inches, from the top of his head… Other countries have quite a similar feelings for Soros. As for local evidence, a discovery would go a long way. He has numerous fronts to obscure his shady doings, but in comparison people like Rezko are pocket change criminals.
