Are Americans becoming war-weary? With 100,000 troops remaining in Afghanistan, 45,000 more in Iraq and with military operating on the ground in a number of other Middle Eastern nations (Libya, Pakistan and Yemen), the majority of Americans (72 percent, in fact) are claiming the the U.S. is over-involved in international conflicts. FOX News Insider has more:
According to a Pulse Opinion Research poll, 72% of Americans say the U.S. is involved in too many foreign conflicts. Fox News National Security Analyst KT McFarland believes Americans are frustrated because the U.S. isn’t prevailing in these conflicts and because our priorities aren’t clear.
Watch McFarland discuss the poll and its associated challenges below:

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 5:38pmWhatever happened to the bipartisan suit against the Obama administration over its failure to invoke the War Powers Resolution in Libya?
Absent a Congressional declaration of war, we should not be at war with anyone.
And we should never be at war with a thing–as in War on Cancer, War on Poverty, War on Drugs, War on Terror.
Especially those last two, where the temptation to take our own language too literally and use the military has gotten us into trouble time and time again.

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 5:25pmI am weary of being on “war footing” for every “crisis” that comes along.
I am weary of trying to use the military for social engineering and nation building. (Hint: The US military is AMAZINGLY good at the one thing we aren’t trying to do in ANY of the “wars” we’re in… Killing people and breaking things.)
You can make the case about whether or not we should be taking out dictators and repressive regimes… I‘m not sure which side I’m on there, but we have to figure out a way to sell peace after the fighting is over and be out ASAP.

They are playing with human lives, all for their creepy agenda. But does the WH worry about the cost of lives ? Or does he go golfing ? Could he even tell you how many of our military have lost their lives since he came to office. His fake reporters used to keep track when President Bush was in the WH.

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 5:05pmWe are using war as a political tool instead of a blunt force instrument. Don’t think of each of these as seperate wars, but as seperate battles in the war on terror. It’s time to pull out of Afghanistan, FOR NOW! If we need to go back in later so be it. Use the hammer, and kill Qhadafi, even if that means boots on the ground. Then get out. Who really cares about Yemen? Get out. Use strikes as required. Egypt is going to have to sort itself out. Stay out for now. Iraq may become the answer to GWB’s experiment. Set up a large stable democracy in the middle east to counter balance Iraq, and now possibly Egypt. We need to continue the course. Not the UN. Not NATO, although they’re welcome to help. Us.
Report Post »From a bigger picture we need to stop treating war like a video game. When you go in it’s all the way. The reason these events are dragging on is nation-building, fear of colateral damage, and international politics. That all needs to stop. the purpose of war is to as quickly as possible force the enemy to do your will, or at least end his ability to wage war. When are we going to learn that the purpose of war is not to make friends?

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 5:04pmI believe part of defeating America would include spreading the military too thin. Someone might want to check into why we started a “kinetic military action” because of the “responsibility to protect”. Sounds fishy to me.

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 4:55pmPersonally I agree. For one, we‘re broke and I believe it’s time for the rest of the modern world to do their fair share in keeping insane government from infecting other parts of the world, but the other reason is that I really don’t care anymore. The people of the nations we protect are always ungrateful and this even goes for domestic American soil. During the height of the War on Terror, the people of NYC clearly chose to support al-qaeda over the USA. Terrorists are drawn to high-profile cities like NYC for attacks, so why should proactive, patriotic American men and women be forced to risk their lives defending “Americans” who have clearly decided to support the terrorists? Personally I couldn’t care less what al-Qaeda does to these places anymore.

Even the most powerfull military in the world which we are fortunate enough to have cant cover everything. Lets pull back and restart watching out for ourselves. Posted on June 20, 2011 at 4:31pmObama’s lawyers are still trying to figure out what “hostilities” means. Our military can stomp the world 3 times over. What we’re weary of is politicians mis-using and abusing our troops. How about when military budget proposals are brought up for approval they are FORCED to include the medical and psychological issues that inevitably follow? We‘ve been around for more than 200 years and we haven’t figured this out yet? Those who sacrifice and then are injured deserve to be well cared for.

Posted on June 21, 2011 at 9:40amI don’t think I could agree with you more. Out troops didn’t choose the war, they just went under command. They deserve the best care we can give them. Also, one of their main issues, many feel betrayed by the Government. Stoploss is only one example. When they are done, they need to be let go if they choose not to re-enlist. Not only the American people are war weary. I watched first hand what it does when a family member goes to war. It’s not pretty on either side. We have to support the troops, we don’t have to support the leaders.

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 4:42pmWe are long past being ‘war weary,’ we are a nation who wants our troops home and out of the fights we have no interest or need to be involved in; and it appears the only reason the administration wants to continue onwards is to apply more pressure on the military, destabalize American influence across the world and destabalize safety at home and along the border.
Right now, if our enemies at home or abroad mount a strike campaign on our territory, there is a great potential the carnage and damage will be horrendous at the least.

The wars you mentioned are only the one’s the corporate media is reporting on. We are also in “secret” wars in more Arab states than we are not. We are also in Africa, if that makes any difference. Now our leaders report we are there to “spread democracy” of “fight terrorism” but the true reasons are far more nefarious. These occupations are for nothing more than resources, period! Maybe seven or eight years ago the majority of the American public where naïve enough to buy the whole “terrorism” mantra but thankfully they are now waking up. Our politicians (on behalf of the large corporations) send our precious treasure too far away lands to fight and die killing those who would defend their land (as we would in their place) in order to destabilize their governments in order to install US “friendly” governments who will submit to the corporate interests that reap billions in profit while those our leaders send lose their homes back in the US.
But don’t worry, I’m sure Anthony Weiner will tweet another pic in a day or two and the media will spend another three weeks reporting it while the occupations rage on, the foreclosures continue and the banksters steal billions more in taxpayer dollars.

None of these wars are justified. Not a one of them. If Sadaam was such a bad person, then why to the USA help put him in office and why did we help keep him in office. Sorry, I know it sounds like a conspiracy, but then again, it is. Another question, honestly, why would the USA attack the weakest country in the world (Afghanistan). All we did was move in, and tick off all the neighboring countries.
