Is There a ‘Spying Device’ in Your Car?

The Chinese government is famously good at internal security, and this may be one reason why: spying devices are allegedly hidden in thousands of vehicles.

Is There a Spying Device in Your Car?

Alleged Chinese spying device.

The devices, about the size of a PDA and apparently equipped to record conversations, were first installed as “inspection and quarantine cards” in July 2007 without charge by the Shenzhen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. They seem to have been placed specifically on dual-plate Chinese-Hong Kong vehicles.

Smugglers were among the first to catch on. One of them told the Apple Daily Newspaper (as translated by the Epoch Times):

“For every ten cars we ran we only had [smuggled goods] in three or four to reduce the risk, but the border agents caught all of them. The accuracy was unreal!”

Before shrugging this off as just another police state intrusion in a far away land, you may want to take a look around your own car for a different kind of surveillance device called the EDR, or Event Data Recorder.

Is There a Spying Device in Your Car?

An example of an EDR.

In general, the EDRs you will find on American cars do not have the remote, bluetooth collection capabilities alleged of the Chinese device above, and the data is considered property of the owner. But  the trend in this country is moving towards more data collection from your vehicle, and more access to it for the authorities. Some would consider this cause for concern.

For years, the EDR has been the deciding factor in a number of criminal accident investigations. And the National Highway Transportation Safety Association is deciding this year whether all cars must have EDRs.

If that happens, your days of going 80 mph with the top-down on the open road are numbered. And who knows, in the future it might be best to keep your voice down when you complain about it.

Always remember that this is about money and power. Our government is slowly setting up a system to collect more money and achieve more power over the citizens of this country. We need to rise up and put a stop to this madness! Or, we will all be subjects of the state. Doing the states bidding. Freedom lost forever. When will the common citizen realize what is happening? I am afraid it will be too late.

Pardon the sarcasm but what difference does this make? By next year ALL new cell phone models (not just smart phones) will have the smart chip in them. So, they could potentially track you everywhere not just in your car.
The smart phones have them now. We’ll all be getting messages from Barry and Janet as well as Amber Alerts, severe weather reports etc…and again, it’s standard on all new phones beginning 2012…(look it up.)

Why are “American” expats always outside America? The Expatriation act (passed July 27, 1868) allowed the recently freed slaves who had recently been made “federal citizens” (citizen OF the United States) to renounce said federal Citizenship and become clothed only in “State” citizenship thereby becoming American Citizens only. Look up “dual citizen” in nearly any dictionary and you find “Status of US citizens WHO reside in a state (of the Union, a foreign Nation) http://www.lojack12.com/Constitution/expatration.html Peace.

You don’t have to fear what the Government is going to do if you know Jesus. This is not my home, I’m just passing through. This is just another step in the plan. Rev. 13:16-18 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. When they speak of the “Indian Nations” they refer to the foreign “nations” which includes the 50 States of the Union which by themselves comprise the Union of Nations known as America.

“State”n. **A people** permanently occupying a fixed territory bound together by common-law habits and custom into one body politic exercising, through the medium of organized government, independent sovereignty and control over all persons and things within its boundaries. “Foreign States: Nations outside of the United States.” Term may also refer to another state; i.e. a sister state.
The term “foreign nations,” as used in a statement of rule of law that the laws of foreign nations should be proved should be proved in a certain manner, should be construed to mean all nnations and states other than which the action is brought; and hence one state of the Union is foreign to another, in that sense of the rule.

It won’t be long and the auto insurance companies will be in kahoots with municiple governments.

      The scenario:
Auto insurance companies will offer drivers the option to purchase a steeply discounted insurance policy if you agree to having a tracker placed in your vehicle that will record your speed and location which will then be sent electronically to the insurance company’s monitoring dept. Not only will this device record and monitor how fast you are driving, it will also know via your location if you run a red light or have other traffic violations. Your rates would be very low provided you have a superior rating but would increase dramatically should you build up points in the ratings system.

Those who choose to adhere to the speed limit and obey traffic rules would pay substantially less for premiums than those who choose to speed and break the law.

Sound to good to be true? . . . Just Wait!

@ WILDBILL – no, territories cannot vote for POTUS – if YOU were educated, you’d know that. And try just watching the news and Obama’s visit to Puerto Rico, the first from a US Prez since Kennedy. Know why so long? They CAN’T vote. Obama has chosen to visit to potentially garner American Puerto Rican/Hispanic support. As for the rest of your argument, it just exemplifies your ignorance and tendency towards sheepleness in your blind support of Barry Soetoro. If you’d like to pursue this with me further, just keep in mind that I’m from Hawaii, a former US territory, as are much of my family. I lived the actualy story, not created some wishful thinking / excuse making in an effort to protect the suspect intellect of the current Prez.

Sounds a lot like ON-STAR!! The best part about on star. The fact that GM changed the location where the On-Star module is install (at least in the 2011 Colorado). Previously they installed it under the driver’s seat. Now, it’s installed behind the dashboard. Making it a heck of a lot hard to disconnect the battery cable from it. Hmmmm…. Wonder why they did this?

Nice grasping at straws: You dopes are desperate. No one I know calls Washington D.C. a state. And the others are territories, not states and was the Foreign Dictator campaigning in Micronesia? Do they have golf courses out there? You need to reverse your Cranial-Rectal Syndrome problem and breathe some fresh air. Perhaps a breathalyzer or inhalator or whatever you callums will help. D’oh!

@ WILDBILL – no, territories cannot vote for POTUS

Please read what I posted again. Your confusion on what I said simply displays the abysmal state of the education system today. I said “Vote(select) for the nominees” Not vote FOR THE POTUS

Your apparent confusion on the statehood of the country is clearly indicative of the level of knowledge you possess on the matter. At this very moment Obama is Campaigning in Puerto Rico:

Obama returns to Puerto Rico, courting Hispanic vote-http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/14/us-usa-campaign-obama-idUSTRE75931P20110614

Hum they must be stupid to be campaigning in a “State” that can’t help elect him. LOL

They are “Territories” of the “United States of America” and form the “states” OF the “United States”. This fact is irrefutable regardless of how much some people try to deny it.

      @Wildbill_Bill ~

Where did YOU go to school?

The Electoral College. The national presidential election actually consists of a separate election in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia; in these 51 elections, the voters are really voting for “electors” pledged to one of the tickets. These electors make up the “Electoral College.” (In most cases, the names of the electors aren’t written on the ballot; instead the ballot lets voters choose among “Electors for” each of the tickets, naming the presidential and vice-presidential candidates each slate of electors is pledged to.)

@Wildbill_Bill – so did Obama actually visit ALL 7 of those territories? Just wondering is all… I followed the campaign pretty closely and don’t remember him visiting Micronesia. If he didn’t visit all 7 of those territories then obviously his understanding of what is a State does not fit with your definition. Also, he said there was one more to go… was he talking about Canada maybe?

I think its more likely that he was tired and misspoke. Politicians do that all the time. We tend to get defensive and try to split hairs, but it would be more healthy for everyone to stop the gotcha/defendya game. Seriously, just because [insert politician] misspoke doesnt mean [he/she] is dumb and it doesn’t really reflect on [you/me] directly just because we support [him/her]. So we can all set down our pride and step away from the keyboard before someone gets their feelings hurt… You aren‘t going to change anyone’s mind about the 57 states, so you are just wasting time.

Although, if you could explain what Obama meant by “corpse-men”, that would be interesting… I’m sure you have spent hours googling for some excuse… such as: Obama was only referring to dead marines, he was just taken out of context! In the meantime, I will google for an excuse to the latest Palin misspeak, and I’ll join you back in 20 minutes to compare….

Of course posts are taken down and modified. The CIA monitors this website and can obtain IP addresses and then identities of everyone here. If CIA decides you are a so called “domestic terrorist” (read: anti-Obama) then what do you think is going to happen? Tax cut?

The ONSTAR devices monitor your location at all times, including knowing when you are home. Thanks to the Patriot Act the government has access to all that information without a warrant (if you don’t believe me, do your research, it’s in the bill). Do you think the government needs that information to help you? Or, duh, maybe to track those who would oppose the absolute dictatorship that Obama is trying, obviously, to impose?

I have a conservative friend who works for the CIA that has told me confidentially to not post anything on this or other websites anything that sounds like you don’t like the government. If you have any kind of GPS, have your mechanical disable it. Limit the websites you visit to the lame stream ones or you will be flagged. He’s told me how to get around that, something I’ll post when I get to the library.

The stage is set. The FEMA camps are in place. HE is only waiting for a world event of some kind to justify his move.

It seems the payoff may be more than just saving money, eh?

No EDR in my wheezebag-hooptie-wagon early Cj5. Hell, I get happy if the heater comes on. Not much technology to record data from. As for going 80 with the top down. er, not a chance.

You really can’t bypass the recorder, the device is a pass-through between vehicle systems, and the ECU. The computer won’t function without it. It is typically held that the product “owner” owns the data in the memory. If it’s leased, the leasing co owns the data, if financed, the bank has a vested interest in that data, and is a co-owner. And you thought OnStar was a frightening case of 1984 when onstar can remotely retrieve the data for anyone who asks Remember that new FBI rules change? Feeling lucky yet?

@ everyone replying to WildBill: The guy is a mental midget, let it go. He’s digging up extraneous portions of legislation to support his argument while refusing to acknowledge that his president was / is capable of being ignorant. That capability lies in all of us, more so in WildBill and Barry, but I digress. And as far as this recent trip to “court the hispanic vote” in Puerto Rico, yes it is true that he’s in Puerto Rico, yes it is true that he’s courting the Hispanic vote, but no, citizens of Puerto Rico will not be allowed to vote for him for President. And, WildBill, if you think he’s down there to get the hispanic vote in some primary that they may hold in Puerto Rico, you’re just plain sad. His, and the Democrats, vision for Puerto Rico is to convince them to give up their cushy tax-free status to become an official state so that, hopefully, they’ll have more voters that tend to lean left.
