Is This Award-Winning Kia Ad Promoting Pedophilia?

You should know ahead of time that the ad you’re about to see won an award. That might seem all well and good, until you see it, and then read that it’s being charged with promoting pedophilia.

The ad, for car company Kia, recently took away a silver award at the Cannes Lions Festival, a gathering of creative, artsy media types. On one side of the ad, it depicts a male teacher and young, female student having an innocent conversation about staying after class and the student offering the teacher an apple. But on the other side of the ad, the teacher and student are pictured having a graphic, sexually-tinged flirt session complete with plenty of innuendo.

See for yourself (click on the image to enlarge):

Is This Award Winning Kia Ad Promoting Pedophilia?

The ad is supposed to promote Kia’s dual climate control. But as some have noted, that seems to be an afterthought, while others have asked if the ad is really promoting pedophilia and statutory rape.

Readers over at the Huffington Post are currently taking a poll. As of this publication, 65 percent think it’s “disgusting.” Take our poll and tell us what you think.

The first point of a print ad is to grab attention, you have about 6/10ths of a second. Still, you are right, there are many ways to accomplish this. Better choices could have been made. A lot depends on your target market, this approach was intended to appeal to a younger market, they went about it very wrong. It did achieve something, it has gotten people talking about Kia, just not in a favorable way. For some, this was a bad first impression that can never be repaired.

Yes zombie, it isn’t my thing but something I have a knack for.. Currently working with an animator on a 7 part series for G–co. After that, pl–ters p–nuts. What you working on?

Everyone sees things differently, My interpretation was the little girl was just being a little girl , the teacher was fantasizing that she was coming on to him, acting seductive toward him, I see him as a pervert . Now I connect KIA with the car that perverts buy to molest children, HA! that really backfired on the slick advertising company and KIA.

      @ SEANSCYTHE:

Oh man! You hit the nail on the head. Parental authority has been eliminated by kids who want and GET some of the most outrageous clothing imaginable. Kids, just 11 or 12 geting these “Gothic” outfits or very young girls dressing in provacative clothing. And in many cases, the parents are buying this stuff. I saw a kid maybe about 5 with a MOHAWK haircut. I‘ve seen girls as young as 6 with hair that had more colors than an artist’s palette.

Of course, the big problem is that if the kids don’t get what they want, they throw tantrums or act like total brats in order to bully the parents into cowtowing to their wishes. In the mid 1950s I wanted my parents to get me a black leather jacket, blue jeans, motorcycle boots and get my hair styled in a “Duck Tail”. Well you can guess how far that went. I wore slacks, a button up shirt and regular shoes, not to mention having a “Regular” haircut. Did I throw a tantrum or go off the wall because I didn’t get what I wanted – - – NO, because I knew better.

I agree. The two sides viewed separately aren’t pedophilia. Side by side– whenever the girl speaks, she’s an innocent little girl, and whenever the teacher speaks, he pictures a porn film with the girl as a voluptuous woman. It’s such a ridiculous, far-fetched explanation of climate controlled technology anyway. This advertizer knew exactly what he was doing. He was making us all turn our heads and look, and we did. Unfortunately, he produced material that might be borderline criminal if it were found on your hard drive.

As far as anyone is to know, the right half that represents the “hot” side is meant to reflect a college setting. It’s obvious that the girl is drawn to be much older than on the “cold” side. There’s an endless supply of pornography out there that shows teacher and student relations. Although a bit tasteless, I wouldn’t say it promoted pedophilia.

While I still agree to it’s distastefulness, and I can see how it can easily be tied together, to me it appears like they’re depicted the same scenario but in different environments. One being an innocent or “cold” environment the other being a naughty, mature “hot” environment and showing the contrast between the same scenario (car) but different environments (front is set to cold, rear is set to hot) showing contrast of the two environment.

Perhaps tasteless but not criminal to the point of calling it pedophilia or promotion thereof.

To deduce that the panels on the right are in a college setting is grasping at straws. Many crass summer movies depict HS students in short skirts and tight blouses. One could easily argue for a HS setting in the ad. We have also seen TV and Movies try to ameliorate how teacher/prof and student relationships are viewed.

On a related subject the Seattle Solstice Parade (both Yahoo & Google searches get results) has young children marching, not side-by-side with, in the same parade with nudists painted to obscure some body parts; however genitalia of both sexes are visible.
      http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=mcsaoff&va=Seattle+solstice+parade

I will always err on the side of protecting children and not promoting perverse adult behavior be that in ads or in public. Get a room or take home.

Unfortunately, the Koreans are following the lead of Japanese anime cartoons and manga. In particular, the form of pornographic anime and manga in Japan is called “hentai,” and if you think this is bad, you should see the stuff that comes right out of Japan and is pervasive in Japanese society (monster tentacle, robot, punitive, and torture rape fantasies as some extreme yet very common examples). Even the crap they show little children, like Dragon Ball, breeds these concepts in young children. I remember a Dragon Ball video we rented for our son when he was little that we ended up taking back and exchanging for something else because it had things in it such as, one of many examples, an old man only agreeing to help a little girl in need if she showed her panties to him first. Keep in mind that is what passes for children’s anime in Japan. They are taught from an early age to be sexual predators and to prey on those who are much younger or to believe that being a sexualized victim is normal and pleasurable. The Dragon Ball video from Japan was dubbed in Korean, but I think the Dragon Ball Z version they show in the US is sanitized to meet our moral standards (not sure, though, since I don’t let my kids watch it anyway just in case and since I don’t want my money going to those creeps ).

It’s not even pedophilia though; Pedophilia is sexual interest in prepubescent children, that girl on the right is definitely not prepuberty, She’s at least pubescent, which varies from the original child, and I‘d assume she’s college level. I honestly don’t see something “GROSS” about it. They could be 4 different people. Anyways I’m not grossed out by it, and at most it’s not pedophilia its ephebophilia, interest in post-pubescent/pubescent adolescents (age 15-19). This ad is nothing compared to what is out there.

On the left side, the little girl is simply asking for help from her teacher. On the right side, the teacher is imagining far more. The point being (as with their dual A/C), that each can choose their own.

Def not feeling this. Something super strange and creepy about it. And I”m not much for censorship when it comes to how a business wants to spend it’s money. But, if it were my company, I’d be pretty much like “wtf” if that came across my desk as an actual suggestion for advertising.

Who‘s to say this isn’t a college classroom being depicted? Still morally wrong, but not pedophilia…

What the hell does this have to do with car A/c? I might have known it would win an award in france. This is one of those truely pointly things people put out just to see what others will think and say about it.

      Note to self …

      Sell my KIA

      Home school daughters

      and

No more apples for freaky teachers

Pretty sick, all of you defending it are wrong. I see the left side is reality and the right is the teachers sick mind at work. Not 4 different people

If it’s different people in the ad Aaron? Then why does the little girl state… “hope you like it” with the reply from the teacher being…. “Its delicious, so juicy”. Sounds and looks like a Sicko teacher to me with a warped fantasy going on in his head.

The left side of this KIA ad represents reality obviously and the right side of the ad represents the fantasy of a sick perverted teacher. Same matching outfits on all character’s with verbal responses also coinciding with each other. Hmmm?

Being the father of a 10 year old girl this ad makes me want to throw up violently! It’s just another clear example of the N.W.O. agenda to demoralize this country.

Aw, come ON. Who really believes the ad company didn’t think through out all the possible interpretations, conscious or subconscious, this ad could provoke? It’s their JOB, it’s what they do all day long. You think they didn’t consider the pedophilia angle that such a “theme” would evoke? They surely spent hours and hours considering the question, well aware of the possible interpretations of their “theme.” The trick is to evoke certain feelings and ideas without obviously breaking the rules. Advertising 101.

What i see is 2 people with the same clothes but different graphics depicting them. The difference comes with the way the age up the child for the right side… it still doesn’t look good no matter how you explain it. Teacher student relations are never a good thing no matter the age.

This ad is aimed at Democrat Liberals.

Liberals and Democrats believe that sex with children is a protected constitutional right. Pedophilia is one of the many Sacraments of Liberalism. Even Judge Ruth-Baider-Ginsberg once stated that Pedophilia should not be against the law.

Do you taste the TEA yet?

The cartoon girl is OBVIOUSLY 18 (or perhaps 16 in Georgia?), so it’s a perfectly decent and God-fearing ad.

Jesus, are people really this uptight? Does it cause a scandal when a girl dresses up in the sexy schoolgirl costume for Halloween?

      @Nes
Dragonball crap? I’m sorry, but that is not crap at all compared to what else they have. And the episode that you are talking about, yes the old man is not the best role model and you see the girl’s butt, but that is as bad as it gets for the most part. Also for this series I would watch Dragonball Z, which is more martial arts oriented and if you get the original version that aired in the US there won’t be that much blood and the like. Dragonball/Z is the least of your worries, seriously. And I‘d recommend reading the mangas compared to the anime as animes tends to do a lot of ’fanfare’ like panty shots or something like that to keep the boys interested, unfortunately. If you care to find a good one look for sports genre, for example “Whistle!” not the anime though -it stops short of the full story- this one is perfect for kids.
Also they are not taught to be sexual predators at a young age, the problem is the hentai that make the young men fantasize about how a girl should act and be. And actually a lot of young people go on group dates to meet the opposite sex(they go karaoke or something like that) or they ask their parents to arrange to meet someone(this was the old way and seems to be coming back).

I see what they were trying to accomplish but it wasn’t well thought out. Yes it accomplishes more advocating of pedophelia than their product. The Ad should not have been released!

      However. . .

They needed to make more of a distinction betweent the Cold/ Innocent side and the Hot/ Adult Fantasy side.

How many guys think its hot when an attractive woman wears a ‘School Girl’ outfit?? Many men love it when an attractive woman wears a short plaid skirt with a button up white shirt that is or isn’t tied up to reveal some midriff.

First off, what the heck does it have to do with buying a car???? Won’t see me in a KIA because I hate dumb, dumb and dumber advertising. This did appear suggestive, but that’s in the mind of the beholder.
My method of madness, I tune out stupid advertisements. If you really want my attention, KISS ( or in other words, Keep it simple, stupid.) The only cute ad on TV is the darling little dog who can’t sleep worrying about his bone, in the yard, in the bank vault, and he’s till worried. That’s me, I relate to it.

Hey this is not far from normal, remember anyone who does any degree of research you’ll find mormons are pedophiles along with many parts of our culture. So this bull to be found on this site is nothing but normal. This may hurt but Glenn is nothing but a fraud. Obvious based on his religious belief.
