Is This McDonald’s Kids Commercial Too Racy for TV?

We all know that McDonald’s is already despised in this country (just ask San Francisco and New York). But the fast-food giant also apparently has some enemies in the Philippines now. That’s because a new commercial in that country was recently yanked after public outcry calling the add too racy for TV. Why? It featured two kids talking about dating and appearing to nudge hands.

Is This McDonalds Kids Commercial Too Racy for TV?

The ad features the young couple talking about their possible blossoming romance. According to some interpretation done by the site Adreak.com, “the girl asks the boy if she is his girlfriend, to which he replies: ‘I’m not ready. Girlfriends are demanding. They want this, they want that.’ Eventually he relents when she says she just wants french fries.” Throw in the almost hand-hold, and some Catholic leaders said “enough:”

Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez condemned the ad for supposedly telling children that “it’s all right to enter into courtship, and it could pave the way for the very young to be lax and carefree.” … Father Melvin Castro echoed Iñiguez’s sentiments, claiming that the ad cheapens relationships.

Filipino news outlet GMANews.tv says the ad was pulled Tuesday, and that McDonald’s issued a statement:

In an official statement, Golden Arches Development Corp., the franchise operator of McDonald’s, said it stopped airing the commercial in all television stations as of Tuesday noon.

“Over the years, we have strived to produce advertisements that highlight positive values like love for family and charity, which mirror those that the brand stands for,” the statement said.

[...]

“McDonald’s remains committed to promoting positive values and will continue raising the bar to be better at what we do — whether it is our food, our service to even how we communicate to the public,” the statement said.

What do you think?

    I agree with Islesfordian’s posts.

I say these kids are too young to have a boyfriend or girlfriend. My son had a friend who was a girl when they were four, but no one called them boyfriend and girlfriend. They were friends. No one pushed their adult ideas of relationships on the kids. This is a healthy relationship for a little child.

I have personally observed that when young kids make friends with someone of the opposite sex, it is the adults pushing them into thinking girlfriend/boyfriend. Adults around them and the media around them push them into a developmental stage that they haven’t arrived at yet.

I don’t want to be mistaken for thinking that little children are too young to be IMAGINING being boyfriend and girlfriend or even married. I remember telling a girl I was going to marry her, when I was five. Children see their parents and want to be like them.

But it’s one thing when children naturally play at these things and innocently pretend. it’s another when these concepts are sublty pushed at them making them think they can do more than pretend. Litte children aren’t ready for real romantic relationships and should not be encouraged to have them. Frankly, I don’t think teenages should be encouraged to date until they are close to being ready for marriage. Too much “experimenting” with romance soon risks breaking out of the laboratory, if you know what I mean.

the seed and root of every social law inspired discrimantion and racism on earth starts more than 5 thousand years ago when a perverted interpretation of the humanity sense in the bible took place in the now so called middle east. remember hagar the egyptian slave flesh son ishmael and the chosen isaac from the god pure blood line of sara? the earth is not that old to forget the origin of all written law evils. the ten commandments the world are living today are no fear of God at all, (see natgeo recently) cheat and lie whenever you can (see any liberal news media) steal to whoever yo can (see the wallstreet gangsters) kill whenever you have the chance, (see the irak, afganistan or libya bombigs) fornicate everywhere, everytime live and eat for tomorrow everybody will be dead, (see any hollywood or european film producers? remember roman polansky?) disrespect your parents and make them feel proud of your material success see mr heffner play boy model for life? oh yes racism is the less of human evils except that it was not elevated to a mortal sin not to protect blacks or latinos or any body else but the saras god perverted blood heritage.

Remember how far we are down the devolutionary slide of moral degradation. Even as conservatives we may not have the perspective to understand how things seem within a much more morally conservative culture. Our Conservatism has become accustomed to tolerating a lot that would have shocked my Great Grandmother’s generation.

Remember the frogs in a pan of cold water on a slow fire. We didn’t just arrive in the pot. We have already been cooking a while now.

i have had a girl in pperu, and one from philipines, and a few other “foriegn women.”
the cultures are highly sensitive to anything out of place. and even though it may not help my case here, many become very “tattletale” or “rumor-mill” about these things.
they easily get a bad reputation for being out of line.

It is one of the church’s jobs to warn about a loosening of moral values. No one goes into moral freefall overnight,. These changes are gradual. You and I may find this commercial sweet and innocent, but that is because we have grown up in and become accustomed to a very licentious and immoral culture. Our standards are so low that we can’t really imagine a culture that is this conservative in its approach to sexual relationships and how chidlrern are expected to relate to them.

It’s not dirty minds the bishop was worrying about but about the suble relaxing of strict standards of sexual morality and childhood innocence. Given the widespread presence of sexual libertinism in Western culture and that cukture’s global influence I can understand the hyper-conservative impulse of leaders concerned about that pusshing back hard even if that meant condemning innocent things becuase of where they might lead.

If you had children and didn’t want them exposed to modern Hollywood decadence, would you let your children play at a house where they had HBO and Showtime? Would you at least be a little concerned?

Or can’t you imagine anyone being worried about those channels, or not even having them?

I have to agree with you both! Kids are innocent till they are shown different. Holding hands is nothing more than just that!! Trouble is when you find districts teaching sex ed in primary schools and handing out condoms to children, it definitely becomes a problem!!! Where’s the morality that kept families together and allowed kids to grow up before becoming parents themselves? Oh yeah….it went out of fashion with political correctness and planned parenthood.
