Is This ‘Obama’ Hallmark Greeting Card Bashing the Tea Party?

Hallmark Accused of Slamming the Tea Party With Obama Greeting CardHallmark has quite the situation on its hands. The company, which is well-known and revered for its timeless greeting cards, is facing calls for a national boycott from some frustrated conservatives. The situation ignited after the Jarratt family of Grayslake, Illinois, went to Walmart in search of a graduation card for a friend. When they found, instead, was a greeting card that they believe pokes fun at the Tea Party.

As they sifted through the selections, Lennie Jarratt‘s children found a card with President Barack Obama’s image on it. In the picture, the president is wearing a cap and gown and appears to be giving a commencement address.

The front of it reads, “You graduated! Time to go to a lot of parties.” Considering that celebrations generally accompany graduations, this wasn’t surprising. However, it was the inside of the card apparently jolted the Jarratts.

“But avoid those tea parties if you can. Trust me,” the inside of the Hallmark greeting reads.

Lennie, who founded the Lake County Tea Party, spoke with Fox News Radio’s Todd Starnes about the greeting card, calling it “offensive” and wondering why the company has embroiled itself in political messaging and debate.

“Why is Hallmark getting political? What’s the point of this? Why would they want to bash a whole group of people?,” he asked. “My kids didn’t like it because it was bashing tea parties. I got the same reaction.”

After Lennie’s children told him about what they saw while card shopping, he decided to go out and purchase a copy for himself. Then, he took to his blog, where is posted images of the card and reached out to Hallmark for comment. So far, the company hasn’t responded.

Now, the local Tea Party leader is looking for a public statement and an apology from the company, as he believes Hallmark may not properly understand what the movement stands for.

Lennie was particularly bothered by the notion that Obama has diminished the Tea Party in the past. The card, he believes, reinforces some of the negative themes the president has spouted.

“What made it more offensive is because the president has bashed Tea Parties before and a lot of people have bashed the Tea Parties,” he told Starnes.

We’ll have to wait to see if — and how — Hallmark responds.

    Holder and Obama are afraid of the Tea Party; the true Tea Party, because they know we are on to them. They have done nothing but wound this country from the moment they got into office. They have use every method at their disposal and then some to disband the very idea of this Republic and the Constitution of this land. These people came into office under the guise of the democratic party and have all but enslaved many black people to the idea that they have a monopoly on freedoms. Their ideal all along has been to pave the way for muslims to get inside our govrnment and overthrow this Consitution. They have used the mexican’s coming over the border as a diversion to insure they have people in this country to destroy in any and every means possible the structure and wealth of this nation. These people are without any caring for America and the Republic that is holding our people to a higher stand of living than any other country. They have come to loot and plunder and institute a government and religion here that is dangerous as it is foreign. Get all of them out that it is possible to do and keep those under watch who say they are here for peace. None of them are, but their kids are getting somewhat westernized, but are still confused. The female ones who do not stay in the fold will be abused and/or killed. These people need to take their sorry selves out of this country or assimilate. They will not, most of them, anyway, assimilate for they are brainwashed.

      Obama has had of 170 fundraisers since April 2011…that is 170 trips to raise money instead of doing the job he was hired for on the taxpayers dollar. The country is in a mess and we are talking about greeting cards. Screw the card company who needs them, probably printed in china anyway by slave labor. We must get this clown out of office and his followers with him or our children and grandchildren will not have any future to look forward to.we are stuck with 2 choices Obama who we know if did this much damage the first time hoping to get re-elected how much will he do the second time. Or Romney who at least has some sense when it come to running large business. Obama had no business skills. screw hallmark.

      Exactly BLACKY, they have been trashing the Tea Party for months now. They know their game is up & their only option is to spread slanderous propaganda at the TP.

      They don’t want their constituents to realize they have the option of smaller, more responsible governmnet, self reliance and true liberty.

      I’ve seen cards mocking Bill and Hillary individually in the past. This card is humorous because we know it’s not beyond him to say and wish it, but if all goes as I think it will this year, marxists will be sending him cards saying “Sorry for your (election) loss” and we’ll be sending Thank You cards to fellow patriots who campaigned and voted for the Constitution and freedom..

      I work for Hallmark as a vendor at a Walmart. I have seen these cards and much more. I don‘t know what ever happens to these card’s, but they are always gone right after I put them out. It‘s funny isn’t it?…..

      Here is the response from Hallmark…..they sort of apologized.
      “We know that some people have expressed concerns about one of our humor cards that references President Obama and tea parties. That line of cards has successfully poked fun at both sides of the political debate for many years. It is never our intent to offend anyone. We apologize if anyone was offended.”

      I am not too concerned about what their cards say……..I don‘t buy anything that I don’t approve of.
      I just added this card to my list of stupid stuff that I do not agree with.

      I think it can be interpreted differently based on the paradigm your utilizing. Do I think these cards are filled with class? No, but they haven’t been for a long time. That said, we can not restrict freedom of speech over something like this. I certainly understand your frustration with corporations involving themselves in political innuendo but if no one bought these items they wouldn’t make them. Thank you for being a good American, I support you and your opinion.

      Geez Louise, I can’t believe the posts regarding this card. I’ve been a tea partier since day one going on three years now. This card is hilarious and if you’ve never browsed through the card section, I can assure you they do also have funny cards that are leaning for those on the right as well. I bought my friend a card once that said something about I would have brought you a birthday cake, but the democrats made me cut it up and give a piece to everyone else first! They have cards to appeal to both side of the card aisle!!

    Holder and Obama are using the race card for diversions. They are using Mexicans as diversions to use the border to bring in Muslims who are wanting to take over power in this country. These borders should be sealed until we get these problems straightened out. No one should be allowed in anywhere unless it is determined by our Congress it is for security, etc. Do not trust Holder or Obama.

    It‘s not that it’s offensive to the Tea Party advocates. It’s just damn frightening that Hallmark is willing to joke about an increasingly dangerous position our country is currently in due to this man, Barack Hussein Obama. This is no joke! Trust ME.     They have the audicity to accuse Congress of racism when they have to account for crimes. They are mocking the U.S. Supreme court and Congress.     I called Hallmark on this same card. I was livid about this. I was looking for a card for my granddaughter, when I saw this card. I asked Hallmark if they had a card supporting the Tea Party and they said they didn’t. At that I told them I would never buy a card from them again and would tell all my friends. They didn’t seem to care. This was in June and I haven’t bought a Hallmark card since and I never will. I now know where they stand!!!!!

    Great advise coming from the party president, any time is party time. I am willing to give Hallmark the benefit of the doubt here. You would need to be an Obummer fan to give this card and it could just be reminding everyone that the Tea Party is going to be a major factor in bringing an end to the Obummer party down presidency. The Tea Party is the grownup in the room.

    There are a lot of ignorant people out there who will by cards with ignorant sayings on them for their ignorant friends. You can’t blame a company for wanting to pick up sales of cards to all the traditionally black college graduates out there.

    Hallmark just shot themselves in the foot. I won’t buy their cards anymore. As far as Obama is concerned, this is just an example of how low he goes. What next, wedding cards with his address so all gifts (money) can be sent to him instead of the bride and groom. Do get on that one too Hallmark.
