Is This Weaponized Spider Robot the ‘Greatest Toy on Earth’?

If you thought that your old rapid-shot Nerf gun or the remote-controlled robot — both of which you may have used to terrorize your mother’s cat — were fun, hold on to your socks because the “Greatest Toy on Earth” is about to blow them off your feet.
Yes, it’s actually called — at least temporarily — the Greatest Toy on Earth by Wow! Stuff, the company manufacturing this toy. SlashGear reports that this sneak peak of a spider-like robot comes with a variety of weapons, such as ping pong balls, flying discs or darts, and can be made with removable armor for added protection. Its movement and battling capabilities are all remote controlled.

Watch the creator of the Greatest Toy on Earth give a demonstration and see if you 1) agree that it will top Christmas lists in the 7 and up category and 2) don’t want one for yourself:
Here’s a second, more official demo showing two of the robots dueling in action:
The sneak peak video of the toy, posted on Feb. 9, already has more than 1.7 million hits on YouTube, so others are just as interested in this robot. But also interesting are the thoughts the creator of the robot, Jaimie Mantzel, has about toys in general. He says in the description on YouTube:
Something I should mention… No one at the stores, or in marketing care whether or not a toy is awesome. They don‘t care if its cheap junk with wheels on it that shouldn’t be there. That’s [sic] not their job. Their job is to sell what YOU buy. It took an incredible amount of effort to get something this cool through all the processes.
Now its [sic] up to you. What you spend your money on is what you’ll get more of. Yes, I’ll make money from these, but the reason I put rediculous effort and love into this is because I think this is the kind of thing that SHOULD be for sale. Don’t be disappointing! Demand amazing stuff, and the people making the stuff will make it. There’s no reason anyone should ever have to take something home, and be disappointed! Don’t buy junk. ….buy awesome stuff, or nothing at all! That will make the world a more super place!
SlashGear also explains that Wow! Stuff is seeking your input on a legitimate name for the weaponized spider-bot before it hits shelves in time for the 2012 holiday season. You can make a suggestion here.

Posted on February 15, 2012 at 12:46pmLooks like the toy inventor is a Stargate fan because it looks similar to the Replicator Spider Ship in the New Order Episode in Season 8 of Stargate SG-1.

Now only if the inventor could make them self replicating… that would be scary.

You have all the toys you need in the open field but then if a city kid your life sucks doesn’t it.
As a kid I hiked/walked through all the ditches canals in our county hunting anything alive to bring home I was surrounded by farm land till 9 then we moved to the high desert then we hiked all over the vast desert at will with the rattlesnakes and vultures oh and I forgot scorpions I could never stay at home how boring.

Posted on February 15, 2012 at 7:12amThe next great war will be fought with drones. China is building them in record numbers. These little walkers could easily take over the battlefield. Not to mention how they could easily enforse NDAA…They could also easily be around the border of the FEMA reeducation camp they put me in…
I wonder if a .45 cal would take them oyt?
