KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (The Blaze/AP) — Islamic authorities will provide counseling to a dozen Malaysian Muslims to “restore their belief and faith” after they attended a community dinner at a church hall, a royal sultan said Monday.

The case has triggered worries among officials in Muslim-majority Malaysia that some non-Muslims were trying to convert Muslims. Proselytizing of Muslims is punishable by prison terms of various lengths in most Malaysian states.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the constitutional ruler of Malaysia’s central Selangor state, said Islamic officials who inspected a dinner at a Methodist church hall in early August found “evidence that there were attempts to subvert the faith and belief of Muslims.”

The sultan did not elaborate on the evidence or mention Christians in his statement, but said the evidence was “insufficient for further legal actions to be taken.”

Church officials had repeatedly denied any proselytization occurred at the dinner, which they described as a multiethnic gathering to celebrate the work of a community organization that worked with women, children and HIV patients. Christian leaders had also criticized Islamic state enforcement officials for what they called an unauthorized raid. The Blaze reported on this incident back in August.

Malaysia‘s state sultans command immense moral clout particularly among Malaysia’s ethnic Malay Muslims, who regard them as the top authorities on Islamic issues. Muslims, who comprise nearly two-thirds of the country’s 28 million people, are not legally permitted to change religion.

Rev. Hermen Shastri, the general secretary of Malaysia’s Council of Churches, said the sultan’s statement “brings closure to the case.”

“No one should speculate or aggravate the situation further,” he told The Associated Press.

The sultan added Monday he was “gravely concerned and extremely offended by the attempts of certain parties to weaken the faith and belief of Muslims.”

“We hope that after this, any and all activities … for the purposes of spreading other religions to Muslims in Selangor must be ceased immediately,” he said.

Malaysia’s non-Muslims mainly comprise Christians, Buddhists and Hindus, some of whom have complained in recent years that enforcement officials are often overzealous in trying to uphold Islam and fail to respect the rights of minorities.

    I’m a Methodist…..and every single Muslim in Malaysia can kiss my a$$…..and kiss it hard. Okay I will say this for like the umpteenth time…I am sick and tired of the Muslim religion usurping every single news story or news worthy report on earth….am i clear on this? You Muslims have become in a word….BORING…..go to a movie….go on a picnic….go fishing…go to a sporting event….go out and have a booze drink and listen to a band play….go golfing….go for a walk….wash your car….read a good book….DO anything except your dumb a$$ self absorbed over inflated close minded and totally 7th century bow down and pray 5 times a day in a certain direction Muslim crap. Your religion is really really very close to insanity…and you Muslims do little to rehabilitate the entire mess. I am a Methodist and I am not in Malaysia but if I did live there….I would split somebody’s wig wide open for busting in on my dinner. Take that to the bank.

      I would support making sure not another thin dine of taxpayer money goes to a Muslim country that does not allow, in the most broad sense of the term, freedom of religion. I would like a Republican candidate to state that he would support that, he would have my vote. The very sad truth is that we are supporting in large and small ways countries who wish to destroy us. Common sense is no where to be found. And don‘t tell me it’s complicated. It’s time for our government to just do the right thing. Likely be a cold day in hell.

    When opposing views are not allowed and one decenting voice must crushed, then the weaknesses of the cult are known to exist. Islam can exist in Christian nations, but all other religions must be extinguished in Muslim nations. The left and liberals in this country think the Christians are evil and try to stem the core beliefs of love and peace, but would have us accept Islam as a religion of peace when non-believers are put to death for merely rejecting Islam.     Well why don’t they try providing councilors for the damage the Muslims just did by attacking the Christians in Egypt and running them over with their armored vehicles.

    Sounds like Roseanne Barr’s plan for Wall St. What next if that fails? Ask Roseanne………………beheading! Do all of these people lack certain brain cells or something? I know that she is a socialist but is she a muslim as well? Seems like their points of view are very similar. Evil comes in many faces regardless.

    It reminds me of those who have the ball-n-chain on their foot with poverty because of high debt! There is no way out except by education and those that watch you leave your dead end job hate you because you made a stand for a better life, by going back to college and getting a career job. I was not so foolish and saved my money long before so that I could make the sacrifice!

    My point is you have to put your foot down sometime and make a change in your life or you won’t have any choice later! You sacrifice today for tomorrow so that you can have it better! You can take everything away in your life, but your will, education and determination! If you let them take your soul, then you have nothing to begin with!

    When exposed to the truth muslims will convert quickly. Many more who follow the islamic cult convert to Christianity than those who lose their souls to muHAMad and islam.

      vennoye: Most false religions are like that. They try to keep their adherents away from hearing the Truth of the Gospel message. The message of the Bible is very powerful, and no false religion can stand up against it. People that belong to false teachings begin to ask questions and begin to doubt what they have been taught. Satan is a liar and the father of liars, but sooner or later he is exposed and his false religions go the way of the dinosaur when people are confronted with Truth. The same will happen to the teachings of Islam as people become more enlightened around the world. In the privacy of their own homes they can search the internet for information. It is the Holy Spirit that guides us to all Truth, and we need to pray for the lost that they will find this Truth. There is no other way to be saved from the wrath to come, except through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Our greatest enemy is ignorance.
