Islamists Secure Nearly Three-Quarters of Egyptian Parliament

Egyptian Islamists Win 75 Percent of Parliament

Egypt‘s election commission and political groups say final results from the country’s first elections since the Arab spring show that Islamist parties won nearly three-quarters of the seats in parliament.

The Associated Press reports that an alliance led by the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood won 47 percent of the spots in the 498-seat parliament, while the ultraconservative Al-Nour Party clinched 25 percent. The two parties are not likely to join forces because of ideological differences.

Liberal New Waftd and Egyptian Bloc parties finished third and fourth respectively, according to Reuters. Reuters also notes that the Revolution Continues coalition, which is dominated by youth groups at the forefront of the protests that toppled Mubarak, attracted less than a million votes and took only seven of the 498 seats up for grabs in the lower house.

Only one woman was among the 10 parliamentary seats appointed by the ruling military council which took over for Hosni Mubarak last February.  Mubarak had traditionally used the quota to boost the representation of women and Coptic Christians.

The new parliament is set to convene for the first time Monday. Al Jazeera English reports:

      Good for them;Just shows people can’t be controlled by even a superpower. The world and it‘s people don’t belong to us. Egypt for the egyptians.And our 10yr wars against muslims was futile as they are still there and as they have no qualms in believeing in whatever they believe. You’ll have to push for genocide if you want to stop people from being muslims. Then you’re worse then what you claim they are.Good-this is an in your face evidence that your wars of agression against them were won by the people there ,not us. As that should be since we invaded them.[9-11 being a response to our political unjust meddling -propping up dictatos and pro unjust zionist policies and not about the false american narrative about us not being muslim].

      Imagine that, an Islamic country electing “Islamists” to hold office. The bad thing about Democracy in countries other than own is that citizens of those other countries elect people that they feel represent themselves instead of candidates that right wing Americans think they should elect. Democracy is really sorry that way. We should bomb every democratic country until they elect people we approve of.

How did it form??? was it because of some western country meddling in the middle east?? you bet it was… All of the muslim nations in 1990 except for Iran, and Saudi Arabia, were actually secular and not under sharia law… until the good old US of A started bombing and killing off the leaders. look at recent history.. Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Iraq, Yemen, Qatar, and Syria… we have helped oust these leaders ( yes they were really terrible people) and in there place sharia law is in..Not yet in syria but hey..we have been so busy stirring up everyone else we hadn’t gotten around to it yet… if a caliphate is coming it is probably to try and oust the US from the middle east… don’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out… but then again, I forgot they hate us because we are wealthy and free??? hahahaha hows that working out for us.. we keep troops in Afghanistan because we are told the people MUST live free and we are willing to kill our troops forever to do it, meanwhile back here they take our freedom every single day, while spending my g-g-g-great-grand-childrens futures…Americans don’t want to believe that we are an agressor, and that we have become tyrannical, but hey,,the germans were all good people too, they were just afraid of Jews and communists, so they gave their freedom away and perpetuated war..until they were destroyed..don’t look now, history is repeating itself…

      JZS, ya’ asshat.

      The problem is that democracy (majority rule) is not what is typical in western democracies. There are sets of rules that make that system work in western parliamentary democracies. The US framers were vary of the democracy as the majority rule and you know the story… they set up a representative republic to avoid the pitfalls of a pure democratic system,with checks and balances.

      It the case of ME countries (and to a degree also in other parts of the world, Africa and Asia), the problem with democracy is that it is one-time ponny. In fact Islamists like it that way — just until they get in power. If they gain absolute majorities, then they feel they have a mandate to rule absolutely and then the whole democracy thing is over. That’s why in Africa, for instance, there was a coup after coup since the countries gained independence. They had a component missing there–the degree of civility that is the element that makes the democracy work (sort of) in the western countries.

      Why we don’t like it? The main reason is that the result–an absolute rule gives us willies. We’ve seen how that works out in the European context when Nazis used the democracy as tool to establish a totalitarian system. In opposition to parliamentary democracies or representative republics US style, these systems are always belligerent and they are on a war path.

      The MB is not hiding its goal. They wan to establish a sharia based caliphate (Turks contending for the same). I have no reason to assume that they won’t be successful (Arabs or Turks). Once that is set, we may try to ply in our sandbox, but they will come knocking, though not so politely.

      What held the world from barbarism after WWII was pax americana, warts and all. It‘s been dismantled in front of our eyes and the result will be that we’d look at the past 60 years with a misty eye and nostalgia that would not be just an attempt to paint the past with idealized hues.

      The modus operandi with GOP candidate elected as POTUS would be to assure that the congresscrittes elected are those that can hold the POTUS’ feet to fire.

      With BHO reelection, the pattern that will ensue is that the congress would be turned into a rubber-stamping entity for executive orders, and that would be the end of the story.

Of course the radicals won, the whole damn middle east is about to turn caliphate-loving; anyone there who is not of that ilk better leave with their head intact now. I am sure Hilary will keep them on friendly terms and help them bring about religious freedom and gender equality, as they demonstrated with the treatment of the foreign reporter.       The English was a lingua franca of technology. As the technology transfer is in progress (cancer is usually progressive too), the chances are that the new lingua franca of technology will be cantonese.

      As for Islam, it is on a path to self-destruction. It is possible that the grandchildren would pray to allah, but their grandchildren, won’t. Islam is a parasitical system by it’s nature (a warlord ideology in fact and scope). Once it runs out of hosts that it can suck dry, it would collapse. But chances are it would collapse sooner, with a bang. I posted a link to Three Conjectures here somewhere, you can google it too. That will give you an idea were it is heading. Of course, the final victory over Islam will be paid with a heavy cost in blood, lives and devastation, because we are unwilling to see the writing on the wall.
