Israel Calls Up Reserve Battalions Over Egypt, Syria Border Threats

The Israel Defense Forces have issued emergency orders calling up six reserve battalions to the Egyptian and Syrian borders and could summon an additional 16 if necessary, the Times of Israel reported Wednesday.

Commanders said security threats prompted the move, Arutz Sheva reported. The order could put between 2,000 and 6,000 additional troops on the borders, according to Fox News.

Under Israeli law, reservists may only be called for active duty once every three years — anything more requires special permission from Israel’s Knesset, according to the Times. The foreign affairs and defense committee approved the request “recently.”

“This signifies that the IDF regards the Egyptian and Syrian borders as the potential source of a greater threat than in the past,” former IDF deputy chief of staff Dan Harel said Wednesday, according to the Times.

Harel cited the growing terror threat in the Sinai and Egypt’s “deteriorating control” over the area, including a surge in weapons smuggling.

The ongoing violence in Syria, Harel said, “could explode at any moment…and pose a direct challenge to us.”

    In my area there is an increase in Military Helicopters. Over the last two weeks, on average 2 – 5 helicopters daily. They are also flying very late at night. Before this if I saw one a year, it was exciting to watch, now just seems odd. Also they closed the airport for a electronically malefaction, but they just redid this airport 4 years ago. The airport was up and running again within days, but it just seemed odd.

    I will say this much, with what I understand of the economical disruption any call up means for Israel it is serious now in their eyes; practically just at the border of war. God help Israel for no matter what comes, I can see Obama striking out in support of the radicals coming to power; just to have some excuse to destroy Israel once and for all.

    Remember, repeatedly Israel has been thrown to the wolves by Obama, deliberatly and willingly, he will stop at nothing until it is destroyed.

The last time I looked his promise concerning us in regards to Israel was as follows: “I will bless those who bless them and I will curse those who curse them”. What is left here to debate? If America is going to last….we MUST stand with Israel. WE must never turn our backs no matter the issue. STAND NOW! STAND ALWAYS! Stand not with just money and words.     I would like someone familiar with Oceana in Va Beach to answer this if possible. I was at the aquarium yesterday and noticed jets flying into the base at about three to five second intervals. Sometimes two or three at a time. It went on for the duration of my visit. Is this normal or is that more activity than usual?

      I used to live there… It is usual activity when/if a battle group is coming back to port. A carrier will send it air squadrons, plane by plane into the air base. Pretty impressive stuff when you have the opportunity to see it. I would check that out. If not that, then perhaps they are moving additional planes to Oceana, which usually means they are beefing up for some anticipated action…

    Pftt! Yeah right.

    The above may be true, but that’s not why they called up the reserves.

    They called up the reserves to handle the backlash from what Israel is about to do in Iran. The game is on boys and girls. The Summer just got hotter.

      Good call. The Egyptians (like most Muslim countries) like to talk tough, march and have parades, but they don‘t want to fight unless it’s against a far inferior force. They still remember the last time the Jews handed them their @sses. Syria is in no position to attack, Assad has his hands full at home.

      I actually think that the threat may be real from Egypt. However, I think it is also designed to see the response from Iran. I would expect to see Isreal activate more reservist to see how Iran reacts. But I would not read too much into this activation at this time. With the things going on in Egypt lately, I would expect Isreal to shore up thier border with Egypt. As for the Syrian side, they may need the additional troops to handle additional refugees from Syria.
