Israel Releases ‘The Truth About the West Bank’ Video Challenging Palestinian Narrative

Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Danny Ayalon has launched a video titled “The Truth About the West Bank.” In the partially animated educational video, Ayalon relays historical facts relating to the Israeli Palestinian conflict, including explanations on where the terms “West Bank”, “occupied territories” and “67 Borders” derived from and how he says they are incorrectly applied.
Ayalon asserts that Judea and Samaria were taken from the occupying Jordanians during a defensive war, hence the “settlements” are legal. In an Israel National News report from mid-July, Ayalon explained his vision for the video:
“The idea behind the creation of the video is distributed in an innovative way and explains the Israeli position in fighting unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state,” Ayalon said.
“Israel’s argument based on facts get lost in the headlines and pictures. The challenge is to adjust the message to the medium and nature of the online world,” he added.
The viral video that was originally released in Hebrew, then translated into English, has reportedly received 100,000 views worldwide, including in Arab countries and has even been featured on Al Jazeera.
Watch Israel’s increasingly popular video below:
Needless to say the Palestinians’ are not best pleased. Their condemnation came via a recent Palestinian Authority official press release claiming the video was a “cynical and falsified account of history and international law.”
According to Israel National News, chief Palestinian negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat has even demanded Ayalon issue an official explanation of the video. Ayalon, however, takes Erakat’s strong reaction as a sign the video is fast becoming a thorn in the Palestinian Authority’s side.
Ayalon reportedly believes the Palestinians feel threatened now that their narrative has been challenged for the first time in “too long.” Reacting to the Palestinians’ upset over the video, Ayalon said:
“For too long the Palestinian narrative of international law and rights has gone unchallenged and this over the top reaction to a public diplomacy video proves that they are acting like spoiled children who have had their way for too long,” Ayalon said. “They are unable to challenge a single fact in the video and have completely avoided a legitimate and honest discussion on the issues.”
In the PA press release, Erekat alleges that Israel was accepted to the United Nations on the basis of UN General Assembly Resolution 181. Arguing that statement’s validity, Ayalon blasted:
“This false claims shows that Erekat misconstrues international law and its system proving exactly how misguided the Palestinian attempt to have their unilaterally declared state recognized at the United Nations really is. Israel was admitted as a full United Nations member in 1949 by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 273, after a recommendation by the Security Council, because it met all the criteria of statehood, something the Palestinians should bear in mind before they further their confrontational and damaging plan towards September.
Ayalon said he “challenges” any of the Palestinian Authority’s political leadership to a debate “on all the issues ahead of September.” September, of course is when the Palestinians plan to unilaterally seek UN recognition for statehood.
Based on the video’s positive reaction, Ayalon and his team are also reportedly planning to translate the video into more languages including Farsi. Ayalon said he now realizes that “there has been such a thirst for the truth,“ and not just among supporters of Israel but also among ”the undecided.”
Ayalon says the video’s success has prompted him to explore developing more diplomatic initiatives in the same area, perhaps using the same medium.
So, what do you think about the video? After watching, do you feel you learned something new about Israel’s history that you did not know before? Did you notice any historical facts that have perhaps been distorted in the mainstream media? Tell us what you think.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 1:23amThis is a good video. Yet it is a little misleading. “Occupied” was a more accurate term for the West Bank because Israel only occupied it without incorporating it politically, which it could not do without giving the Palestinian population power to take over demographically. While Israel seeks to stay a Democratic Country its survival is dependent on its population being majority Jewish, thus it cannot absorb the non-Jewish population of the West Bank.
I propose they abandon pure democracy in order to maintain their Jewsih State and also be able to take in the entire population of the West Bank and Gaza. They could formally annex both territories and offer Israeli citizenship to all inhabitants and kick out of the country any who will not accept the arrangement. They would have to seriously police the area to drive out Hamas and Hesbollah.
The Jewishness of the State could be preserved by requiring the ruler to be Jewish. A monarchy could even be reestablished. This might be condemned by the world, but who really cares what “the world” thinks?

Report Post »Perhaps because it is them choosing to be a free and democratic state and to be in the right. The way they are doing things is the way that God intends for them to pursue it or they would not be doing it that way. Also, it is called honor and integrity that they are choosing over what might be considered by some people to be more expedient. Another thing, you are not quite correct in stating that occupied is more correct because technically going strictly by the truth and facts, then it shouldn’t even be considered as “disputed” but should be called simply, part of Israel.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 1:52amI said that Occupied WAS more accurate. Israel no longer occupies all of the West Bank. But while it did it did not treat it as simly part of Israel because it did not allow citizenship to all the inhabitants. Right now it is not occupying the land held by the Palestinians but its settlement policy treats the land as de facto belonging to Israel. An occupation without acknowledging such. This is politically necessary because the more practical approach would be more widely condemned.
While I support Israel and believe they are the good guys in this struggle, they do not deserve a blank check of our blessing. No nation does. Saying, “The way they are doing things is the way that God intends for them to pursue it or they would not be doing it that way”, is frankly ludicrous. This implies they are simply obeying God. I wouldn’t say that about ANY nation.
I might remind you that Israel is not a religious state. They do not obey God’s laws in everything. And how often in the history of the Jewish people did they fully obey God? The Bible reveals their humble history as a sometimes obedient but more often disobedient people. When Israel was formed 60 years ago many orthodox Jews did not want to recognize it because they saw that it was clearly not God bringing them back to the land but men. there was no intention on the part of the early Israeli rulers to create a religious state and fully obey the law of Moses. Many of the first Zionists were secular Jews.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 2:26amMiami, it would help if you actually read the comments when you reply to them. I said Israel would have to drive out Hamas and Hezbollah. Muslim actions are largely indefensible. But Muslims are ruled by Islam, which is a religion of war, literally and physically. But that does not mean that individual muslims are not entitled to be treated with justice individually. They should not be punished as a class.
As for whether all people living in my home are family members: If they have been living in that home as long as I have what right do I have to kick them out? But if you regard some living with you as not being of your family you have this command from God, Deuteronomy 10:19.
“Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.”
That’s part of the Law. Failure to obey the Law is what got Israel kicked off the land the first two times.

So the Holocaust was part of his plan. The terrorist actions of the PLO, Hmas and Hezbollah were part of his plan. How do we know, then, that even more murderous actions against the Jews are not part of his plan? Why should we resist God’s will then?
If everything is part of God’s plan and nothing is NOT part of his plan, while true on a high theological level, it is practically useless for understanding how we should behave. Was it God’s will that Obama was elected? Was I opposing God’s will when I vote against Obama?
When theologians deal with these matters they make the distinction between God’s sovereign will and his revealed will. We speak of his sovereign will when we say that all things happen according to his will. But we are speaking of his revealed will we we say that it is God’s will that this or that happen, and that those who oppes this or that are opposing God’s will, and therefore opposing God. To start speaking of his revealed willl and then fall back on his sovereign will, is to confuse the terms and to misrepresent God. It was not God‘s will that Hitler kill the Jews anymore than it was God’s will that I sin yesterday in this and that instance. I know that it is God’s will for me always to refrain from sinning, and yet his sovereign will allows me the freedom to choose to sin or to obey him.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 4:33amIsrael is already not a pure Democracy, it is a Parliamentary Democracy. A system of government that works much better than a Democracy. You would have them abandon this for a Monarchy?! You must remember absolute power corrupts absolutely. The closer the power remains to the people the less corruption and tyranny.
Report Post »Allowing those intent on killing you into your home and giving them the opportunity is just foolish. Why must Israels love for the Muslim people of the region come in the form of allowing them into their homeland so they can murder and lose their souls. I don’t think this is love, but a warped view. Israel can better serve its people and those of the region by teaching truths, religous and secular, to the people around them, so that they might better their lives. The solution for the MiddleEast conflicts must come from the Arab people in the region. When they cast off their desire for the blood of the Israelis and all non muslims and begin to show love and respect for all mankind, there will be peace.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 7:15amAbsolute power corrupts absolutely. Have we not seen how absolute power can be weilded in the hands of democratically elected politicians. Pure democracy is generally far worse than most monarchies. Britain and Denmark have constitutional monarchies. Of course the joke about Britain is that it is a constitutional monarch that has neither. Right now the “monarch” of Britain has no real power or authority. But that is only since the reforms of 1832. From the Great Revolution of 1689 until 1832 the monarch had some real power, but not unlimited. He had to share power with Parliament. I actually think such a power share, which is reflected in elected form in our bicameral Congress and Balance of Powers, was a better form of government than Britain has now. If you examine the way one Parliament can simply overturn years of traditional English rights, like gun ownership, simply by passing laws by majority vote, I would think it would be a good thing to have a monarch with the power to say, “hold on there”. Right now there is no power that stands up to Parliament and balances them out.
The neat thing about a LIMITED monarchy is that it would possess few of the evils that we associate with monarchs like HenryVIII, Loius XIV or Ivan IV but still act as a check against the tyranny of democratic majority. Monarchies have also traditionally been more tolerant of minorities than democracies, because the monarch doesn’t owe his power to appeasing the majority.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 7:22amFoobear, I would think a better reason for supporting Israel is because they respect human rights, not because they are a democracy. How exactly is Egypt less of a democracy than Israel? If you look at the region I think you will find that the more democratic the governments in Muslim/Arab states the more radical they are.
Democracy with a respect for human rights is frankly not natural to Islam. So if you have a large Muslim population, as Israel would if it fully anexed the West Bank and Gaza, any government that rested upon majority rule alone would not be a good fit, not until Muslims stop be so…Islamic.

Report Post »When referring to His Plan I am referring to the fact that nothing happens without God allowing it to happen. Part of the problem that people have with that is that while God loves all of His people (whether they want to claim to be His Children or not they are) and that God will allow things like that to happen because of choices that all people make. Like the Holocaust, it was about as horrible as anything could be but it could have been stopped so in a way, we all caused it and God allowed it to happen due to choices that were made back then. While God loves us more than anyone can truly understand He still will allow things even this bad to happen. Yes it was God’s will for that to happen because we allowed it and no you did not go against His Will by voting against obama, I did too. One thing to remember is that God was willing to give His only Son to try and bring us to Him. It hurt Him very badly to have to see His Son crucified in a tree for people that really do not deserve it. But also, the reason we are on the planet is primarily to give Honor and Worship to Him and it is difficult to understand this but I will presume that you do understand that our lives are nothing compared to the importance of giving Him Honor and Glory. Even our salvation is actually secondary to that. That is why sometimes horrible horrible things can happen to us. I’m sure that you understand that we are His and as such He is the Centerpiece of all in existence.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 1:12amFor far to long the media, politicians Islamic states and the left have played upon the sorrows and misery of these people. Arabs who lived in this land were mixed between Jordanians, Egyptians, and Syrians. Jordan alone killed thousands when their lands were overrun by refugees after the war. You would think that the Islamic world would except the plight of these people and offer a homeland to them. However their situation simply meant a negative opinion of the ruthless Israeli who in fact was simply defenders of the aggressors. Marxist, quickly attached their rhetoric to this. Islamists used this as a call for arms and the world through complete ignorance and lack of any true historical education opposed Israel and supported the plight of poor refugees that Jews kill. The truth once again comes to light and those who spin it as lies and Jewish propaganda just fall into the same old brainwashing they were taught without once searching for answers or asking questions. Satan draws them to him with distorted half truths. God will sort all this out. You can bet on it.

The only reason there are “Palestinian refugees” is because Jordan, i.e. the original Palestinian state, refused to accept their own countrymen after Israel was established. It is one thing to take over land as the new rulers. People have been used to that experience in that region for millenia. The only question is the; will the new rulers rule with justice? But if, in order to rule, the new rulers must kick people off the land, then justice seems the last appropriate description of the new rulers’ policy. God commanded his people to be kind to strangers living in the land, because the Israelites were once strangers too.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 9:54pmIslesfordian what is your belief in the nature and character of God? Is God a respecter of persons? Is God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abundant in goodness, and that he was so from everlasting, and will be so to everlasting? Do you believe that he changes not, neither is there variableness with him; but that he is the same today, and for ever; and that his course is one eternal round, without variation? Is he a God of truth, and cannot lie? Is God love?
If you answered yes to those questions then you’ll need to rethink your assumption that there is no new revelation or “prophecies” because there are “no new prophets”. If revelation was needed anciently, when life was simple, then wouldn’t you think revelation would also be needed today, when life is so complex? If God is an unchanging and perfect being and has always called prophets to reveal his will to his children then why would he stop? Do you believe God has nothing more to say? Have revelations ceased? It is to my understanding and my testimony that revelation has not ceased; that God still speaks to his children today, and he does so through his living prophet Thomas S. Monson.

How do I know he is a true prophet of God? The same way all can know, by asking of God (see James 1:5). You see the Holy Ghost is the messenger for the Father and the Son and the teacher of and guide to all truth (see John 14:26; 16:13). Thus, ‘by the power of the Holy Ghost [we] may know the truth of all things’ (see Moroni 10:5). The knowledge and spiritual conviction we receive from the Holy Ghost are the result of revelation. Convictions all can receive if they sincerely seek the truth with an open heart.
Elder Russell M. Nelson, a modern apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ, said in regards to revelation that “to access information from heaven, one must first have a firm faith and a deep desire. One needs to ‘ask with a sincere heart [and] real intent, having faith in [Jesus] Christ.’ (See Moroni 10:4)
“‘Real intent’ means that one really intends to follow the divine direction given.”
Islesfordian I believe that there never was a time in the history of the earth when men needed revelation more than they need it now. I want to testify to you, that the book of revelation is not closed. God directs his prophet Thomas S. Monson this day and time and speaks as certainly today as He did in the days of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 12:12amThat is just a great video. I need to play this for some folks I know who are Jew haters. I would love to hear them shriek and bleed from their eyes while listening to this video.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 12:15amMalarky. Y’know what would solve this? A borderless society. Ecologically homogenous communities that supported each other. It’s time to grow up, on both sides.

They don’t respect the boarders, so you think they should be erased…?!
Gee why not let strangers go through your home and while your at it turn the other cheek when they rape and kill you partner…?

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 2:34amThelonious, you have the cart before the horse. You think that you can create peace between peoples by removing borders. You can only remove borders when there is peace between peoples. The peace creates the borderless society, not the other way around.
But what creates the peace? THAT is the problem.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 12:12amAs I have always said. There is no such thing as Palestine and there is no such thing as a Palestinian. Additionally, there is no such thing as international law. That’s a progressive pipe dream.
Report Post »Islesfordian
Posted on July 26, 2011 at 3:55amIf there is no such thing as a Palestinian what do you call the non-Israelis living in the west Bank and Gaza. To what nation or land do they belong? Where is their home, and why is it their home?
I get the impression that these questions are brushed aside by some who just want to “stand with Israel”. I don’t think the questions will go away, however. Standing with Israel is only the beginning of the solution. It isn’t the end of it.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 6:19amThey should be caller ILLEGAL OCCUPIERS.
Report Post »Kind of like the neighborhood bully taking over your sandbox and claiming it to be his.
He needs to be walked away, if he comes back a can of woop delivered to him.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 7:28amI’m sorry, Jrfox, but are you saying that those who were born there, whose families have lived there for generations, should be called ILLEGAL OCCUPIERS and likened to a bully who “invades” a sandbox? From where did they INVADE? If they do not have SOME right to the land by virtue of having lived there for, oh, 1900 years, what right do WE have to live here in America?
