Israeli Chief of Staff Concurs: Iran Can Make Bomb Within a Year

The Israel Defense Forces’ Chief of Staff Wednesday gave a stark outlook for his country and the Middle East, saying “every single point in the state of Israel is under missile threat.”
Speaking to an audience of journalists and policymakers at the Herzliya Conference, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz echoed policymaker assessments in the U.S. - most recently Defense Secretary Leon Panetta – that Iran has the ability to construct a nuclear device within a year. He said:
“Iran is a global problem, a regional problem and a problem for Israel. Iran wants to solidify its regime by creating a nuclear deterrent.”
He emphasized the stakes couldn’t be higher for Israel:
“We cannot forget one basic thing: Israel is the only state in the world that someone is calling for its destruction and is building the tools in which to do it. That is not something that can be ignored.”
Gantz said it’s very important to build impressive military capabilities and be willing to employ them if needed, but at the same time, he said, “Sanctions are beginning to show the first signs of progress regarding what is happening inside Iran,” adding the Islamic regime’s nuclear project needs to be further disrupted and supervision needs to be tightened.
Closer to home, Gantz outlined the threats from Hamas and Hezbollah which possess:
“extraordinary munitions power that can hit every single point in the State of Israel…every single point in the State of Israel is under missile threat…Gaza and Lebanon are the two largest munitions arsenals that I’ve ever seen. Hezbollah and Hamas, fed by Syria, Iran and even by Russia I’m sorry to say that’s continuing sending arms to Syria…”
And with President Bashar Assad facing a full-blown insurgency, nobody knows who will end up controlling Syria and its weapons.
“The Middle East is the most arming place in the world and the even worse news is that we are the target of those munitions, and we need to take care of that matter.”
This assessment comes as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that he is interested in more than doubling Iran’s defense budget. Bloomberg reports that lawmakers have to review the budget. If approved it would then go to the Council of Guardians, which has the power to veto legislation.

His agenda is to appease muslims all over – even at the expense of our allies and his own people. The massacre at Fort Hood is, in his administration’s opinion, simply a work violence kind of event – not unlike our very own postal workers. He absolutely sickens me.
You are right – no one can imagine a country who has expressed as their goal, the “utter elimination of Israel” working on the very means to accomplish their direction on a daily basis. The world will know when Iran has the bomb because they will immediately use it on Israel!
Protect yourselves Israel! Obama will not rule over us for ever – but he is ruling over us now – we can’t help you at this time….he won’t allow it. You do not have time – November will be too late

Fact is… Ron Paul could give a rat‘s behind about our one true ally in the middle east nor it’s people. But you keep on, keepin‘ on with that Paul is Israel’s best friend spin.
Don’t you Paul supporters ever get embarrassed? I mean, it’s embarrassing to read. I really can’t believe it sometimes that many of my fellow Americans can be such buffoons to reality…it’s simply amazing to me.
But I guess we’ve had practice with the Obama supporters and are getting used to this type of buffoonery. It’s a shame because so many of you voted for him in 2008…Obama that is.

The fact that they build one is disturbing but not the end of the world. We still have time to destroy it even if it existed. The best guess is that we have a window of one and a half years at the most and 1 year at the least. If the Iranians had a sane leadership the fact that they had a nuke would not be so devastating. However …they have leaders who believe this ‘12 Imam’ crap and that they can hasten his arrival with world conflict. We should have hit their facilities 6 mos. ago. Thanks obama.
