Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Blasts UN Agency on ‘The Truth’ About Palestinian Refugees

In a new YouTube video called “The Truth About the Refugees,” Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon takes a sharp look at the Palestinian refugee problem, and blasts the UN agency tasked with aiding them and their descendants. Ayalon asks:
Why after more than 60 years are the Arab-Palestinian refugees still not welcomed and absorbed among their own brethren? And how could their numbers have grown from 500,000 to 4.7 million? The sad reality is that Palestinian refugees never had a chance. Attempts at resettlement were blocked by a variety of discriminatory laws enacted in Arab countries such as: a ban on receiving citizenship – with the exception of Jordan; blocking them from entering many professions; restrictions on owning land; restrictions on movement…
From Israel’s perspective, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, or UNRWA, with the encouragement of Arab states, has engaged in a highly political mission to perpetuate the refugee problem rather than finding a dignified solution for those living 63 years in substandard housing that is clearly no longer “temporary.” Ayalon quotes a former UNRWA director in Jordan Sir Alexander Galloway who said:
…the Arab nations do not want to solve the Arab refugee problem. They want to keep it as an open sore…as a weapon against Israel.”
He also asks why the UN formed an entirely separate bureaucracy to aid Palestinian refugees, when all other refugees are handled by the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR):
The answer is, because while the United Nations’ central refugee agency helps refugees resettle, the United Nations Palestinian refugee agency helps perpetuate their status by applying unique criteria…Refugees lose their status after receiving citizenship from a recognized country – Palestinians do not. Refugees cannot transmit their status from generation to generation. Palestinian refugees can.
Arab states are all too willing to obstruct any livable arrangement for these mostly impoverished Palestinians by withholding citizenship, preventing moves to more adequate dwellings, and feeding the dream of their future “return” to their purported homes in Israel. Homes, it should be added, that many never actually saw since they were born years after the 1948 and 1967 Arab-Israeli wars.
Now, even their grandchildren and great-grandchildren are granted refugee status by UNRWA and are daily fed the myth Israelis will eventually, after a violent struggle, vacate their homes leading to a so-called “return” of those who weren’t even born in 1948.
Instead of encouraging the refugees to move forward with their lives constructively, UNRWA – ceding to Arab state policies – has set up a massive bureaucracy predicated on handouts to the poor and perpetuating the problem, rather than acknowledging reality and allowing them to attempt financially-independent lives.
Ayalon explains in his video that there were more Jewish refugees – 850,000 – forced from Arab states than the estimated 500,000 Arabs who fled their homes in 1948. Also by contrast, the Jews were allowed to build free lives in Israel and were never granted refugee status. Ayalon is himself the son of a Jew who was forced to leave Algeria.
Ayalon’s first two videos on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and the West Bank went viral. The Israeli Foreign Ministry hopes this one will also be widely viewed, offering the public a perspective not widely disseminated by the mainstream media, which like UNRWA tends to report on the issue without pointing to the basic logical complication – how can someone who was born decades after an armed conflict be considered a refugee?

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 1:03pmAlso, many of the “Palestinian Refugees” would not have qualified as refugee under traditional rules. Many were not born in Palestine, but had come to the area to find work because the Jews paid higher wages. Further, when they left many simply went back home. Notice the difference in how far Jewish refugee had to travel compared to the Arabs. When the Arabs left most of them traveled a distance that is less than my commute to work. The UN actually created a special definition of refugee to accommodate these Arabs and then began paying them to be refugees, which encouraged other Arabs who had never been to Israel to claim refugee status. Finally, for the next 60+ years most of the Arab world remained and still are officially at war with Israel. Yet the Israelis are expected to give up land that was originally given to them under international agreements and allow millions of people, who want them dead, to take up residence in what land they have left without recognition or peace? This is pure evil.

Given to them by whom? Not the Palestinians! This article and your response is completely circular logic. The Israelis expect Arab states to patriate the Palestinians who they displaced but also themselves aren’t willing to patriate? Seriously? This would be like the USA expecting Brazil to patriate Native Americans that we ran off. And for all of you defending Israel with this logic, I don’t hear you offering to patriate the Palestinians here in the USA. If you don’t want to patriate them then why do you think these Arab states should want to? Because they’re Muslim? Well Mexicans are Christian, aren’t you turning them away?
The harsh reality is that NOBODY has any “right” to any land. Someone always had it before. God hasn’t assigned ownership. We take our lands by force, plant our flag, and defend our borders. It’s mine because I have guns that say so, period. My family needs a place to stay too. Such is the way of the world, always has been, always will be.
That said I support Israel, but I expect them to deal with their own problems. Problems THEY created. If they aren‘t strong enough to defend their borders then maybe they shouldn’t have been so stupid to set up shop where they did. They should have conquered some island or gone somewhere else. And it’s not too late for them to move. Give ‘em part of North Dakota

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 5:23pmabbygirl1994, you’re parroting the same circular logic over and over again, the endless who-was-here-first battle. Modern-day Jews have no more claim on that history than anybody else who descended from that time. You know, like ALL Christians & Muslims.
Most Jews in the State of Israel come from European, not semitic, blood lines. You realize that right? Strictly in terms of blood and geneaology the Palestinians are more closely related with the ancient Israelites than Jews in modern Israel.
And what about the history? Perhaps you argue that simply identifying oneself as “jewish” is enough. Ok, well Christian history stems from Jewish history. And the same can be said for Islam. Muslims believe in Moses, Abraham, etc., just like we do. They are part of that same history. Religiously-speaking they may be an apostate branch, but they still come from that exact same history. European Jews can’t claim to own that history (or those buried artifacts) any more than any Christian or Muslim.
Your argument can be taken even further. I’m have some Cherokee blood in my veins. Perhaps the government should give me any land previously inhabited by the Cherokee? You know, like all the states in the southeast. You say no, of course not. But I can show you countless buried artifacts, interesting although frankly worthless artifacts.
Do you not see how hollow your argument is?

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 5:55pmBioengineer, When the partitioning was done after WWII, the “Palestinians” turned it down flat and said there can be no Israel. The surrounding lands left over from the Ottoman Empire became many of the countries the surround Israel today. Israel did not expel the Arabs that wanted to stay so much as the Arabs told them to leave because they were going to war to eliminate Israel. Let me just ask you if you would rather be a Jew living in an Arab land or an Arab living is Israel. That simple statement SHOULD tell you so much about who has been most fair all these years. I would also ask, should the Israeli’s actually be expected to trust people in a peace process when the Palestinians actually say among themselves that it is only a first step to the extermination of Israel?

Do I need to point out each logical fallacy in your argument? I will point out one of them: “The harsh reality is that NOBODY has any “right” to any land.” . If you are currently living on property that you paid for, I guess if I am stronger than you I can kick you off and take it by force. You are oversimplifying a very complex issue.
Since Israel is under very real threat from those that not only would invade them but kill every last one of them, they have every right to defend themselves and their land that God gave them and they cannot give away by His own command. So Israel DOES have a “right” to this land given to them by God.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 11:32pmmelvin spittle, I would love to have you point out my “fallacies.” Do tell. First let’s circle back on the first one. Perhaps the logic is too complicated for you to follow? So if one “buys” land they have a right to it huh? A permanent right, forever, until the end of time? They own it? It’s theirs? Ok, so tell me, what happens if you don’t pay your property taxes? The govt takes the land. Uh oh. You’re a tenant. So what happened to the so-called property “rights” of the Native Americans? I seem to remember reading something about them being driven west. But wasn’t that “their” land?
Now also tell me, how are borders defined? State borders, national borders? Who came up with those lines? Where do they get this right? Have the worlds borders always been the way they are today? Another question. Let‘s say you’re from CA and by some miracle the federal government refuses to bail out your lousy state. State goes bankrupt and loses its state charter, becoming a territory. The deed for your house reads “State of California.” But CA doesn’t exist anymore… so what’s to stop someone from taking “your” land at that point? People get together and form governments so they can have things like a common defense, property rights, etc. I know it’s confusing, but just try to keep your eye on that rabbit.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 12:49pmI read some interesting facts concerning “Palestinians”:
(1) there is no such thing as a Palestinian language
(2) Y. Arafat was an Egyptian.
(3) When the Romans destroyed the Temple they also re-named Judea “Palestine” as a slap in the face to Jews because the Philistines were the arch enemy of the Jews.
(4) When Babylon defeated Judea in the 5th c.BC, they also totally wiped out all Philistines.
(5) In Jeremiah 46-51; the prophecies against the nations, it lists what Babylon will do to the nations.
The following nations will be destroyed AND be allowed to come back; Ammon (Jere 49:6), Elam (Jere 49:39). However, of the Philistine peoples (Jere 47) there is no promise to “bring back”.
Therefore, there is no such thing as “Palestine”.

Fact is, the founder of Zionism called the area the land of Palestine, Theodor Herzl. The Balfour Declaration, which was bought and paid for by Rothschild, called the area Palestine. Fact is, there was no Israel for 2,700 years, then the Jewish Europeans and Americans took the land and called it Israel.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 6:00pmRight! Historically speaking,“Palestine” referred to the region from the Mediterranean and the Jordan River, which included the Gaza Strip, Israel, the West Bank and parts of Syria (in Biblical times).
The land now recognized as the State of Israel was first known as the independent Land of Caanan no later than 2000 BC. Then in 1500 BC, it came under Egyptian control and became known as the New Kingdom.
Then in about 1200 BC it regained independence and ultimately became known mostly as the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah. Archaeologists have found Egyptian records referring to “Israel” as early as 1209 BC. Jerusalem became capital of the Kingdom of Israel and a holy place for Judaism in 1000 BC, which is about when the First Temple was built there.
Between 900 BC and 700 BC, the Judah state became well established; and its largest city, Jerusalem, was the most dominant city in the region. Even after the Assyrian Empire conquered the region in 772 BC, Judah remained as a vassal state as late as 612 BC. The Romans conquered the region in 63 BC, and the Judean Temple was destroyed soon thereafter.
Islam only became interested in Jerusalem as a focal point for their prayer in 610 AD, and the Arab nation didn’t conquer the region until 700 AD. Jewish people have a much older history in the region, starting when the Israelites began settling in Canaan. To call yourself Palestinian is disingenuous since there has never been a state named Pal

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 2:39pm@ Smackdown33 – You are retarded. The Poles welcomed Jews with open arms after the Spanish Inquisition and benefited greatly from it. Several nations throughout history have welcomed them when they needed immigrants, money or something else. Anti-Semitism is merely another form of the majority going after a minority. This happened frequently when the church went after different Christian sects or political factions. When things are bad it is easier to blame someone else and steal their things than to find your own solution to the problem.
Your other point that Jews have always formed their own nation is precisely why they still have claim to Israel aside from military victory. It is also the point as to why the Palestinians are a modern creation and have no right to anything. They were created after the new formation of the Jewish state and they lost every conflict they ever fought in. They exist solely because the world tells the Jews they can‘t push them off of their land and the Jews aren’t hot on genocide after WWII.
In the end you just sound like another useful idiot.

Prior to the civil rights movement, lots of businesses, employers and schools rejected blacks. No one wanted them either. Additionally, Islam has historically been more accepting of Jews than Christians. During the Middle Ages, the only problem Muslims had with Jews is that they weren’t Muslim while Christians accused them of deicide, murder, and being the cause of every one of their problems (black plague). The Spanish Expulsion only took place after Spain was conquered BY CHRISTIANS. Muslims only began turning on Jews after WWI and only expelled Jews after the 1948 war. Just because Jews have been repeatedly expelled doesn’t mean they were at fault.

After WWII, the victors reassigned lots of peoples — the Poles were given their country back w/a nice border on the sea while the Germans lost territory. Plenty of Germans were repatriated fm the lands Hitler conquered.
So why not repatriate the Jews to their ancestral homeland. Arabs were welcomed to stay but chose to leave. Besides most of the indigenous Arabs were normadic before guest workers fm Egypt, Iraq, and Syria were invited by the Brits under their mandate. The numbers of Sephardic Jews cast out w/the clothes on their backs outnumbers the number of Arabs who left.

They are the sheep that have been planned to lead us over the edge of the Communist cliff. The young teachers ahve all been brainwashed or shamed into stupidity. I had a neice whom grew up in a Christian home and was sent to a (SO CALLED??) Christian School, with big Tuition and was studing to be a teacher. She came out a Liberal and can’t even see what they did to her. Now she will teach the next generation. The cycle has to be stopped, by Home Schooling.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 11:51amThe true fact about the UN is one that American Government will NOT tell you. Their hidden plan is called Agenda 21. Their goal is to take control over the whole World. This is a bunch of self appointed Elite and rich people from all over and each Country, that see their ideas and rule as the only way. It is all disguised in the fluffy words, like Human Rights and Utopia for everyone. It in fact is for Communist Control for all of man kind and the people as slaves for them. They intend to bring the World population down to a much more controllable few and exterminate the rest. This is why, all of the sudden we see America going to the UN for approval . They have made a New Constitution and believe me, there is no Human Rights and Freedom in this New Constitution. The goal is Sharia Law and Communist Control on the grandest level in all of History. This is Hitler, Mao, Stalin and the others all on Steroids. This is why the whole World is on fire as we speak. If some leaders don’t go along with their plan, then they will be removed and accused of things that are most likely not accurate. This NWO, Agenda 21 Plan has been in the works for decades and they are in the final phase of completion and they know Americans will be the biggest problem, because they have had their freedom and will not let go of it without a fight. Thus the Fast & Furious deal, to tell us they must take our guns away. We are on to their plan now and the truths have all been divulged.

Through out history there have been other people that have been spread out like the Jews but they became part of the country they lived in.Taking that country’s language and customs as their own.
Not hard to believe that the Jews are the apple of gods eye. One day he is coming back for his people the Jews and the christians who call upon him.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 4:04pmActually a really good reason exists for why the Jewish people haven’t lost the language, customs, etc. Almost every other country that has taken them in forces them all into one space and only allowed them to mingle with other Jews. Keeps them from becoming part of the population etc ,but it also keeps the traditions alive and well. Weird turn of events, things like the slavery in Egypt kept the customs alive.

Report Post »Many decades ago, we the people of the Earth, determined that the Jews must given their homeland back. Why?
Because No other country wanted them. That’s the long and short. Every country in which they have been forced to settle -for centuries- has treated them with prejudice and racism.
So, after a country goes out of it‘s way to resolve ’the Jewish question’, using methods of the most heinous sort, the ‘oh-so august United Nations’ exiles them to a desert with salt water on both sides!
Instead of whining about the cruelty and callousness, instead of sending bombs against the people that deported them there, what did the Jews do?
They created a ‘land of milk and honey’. Land that no one wanted before is now in much demand…. hrmmm. A land that was unfertile desert for centuries since the Jews were most recently removed from there, suddenly returns to fertility with them. Granted it was through hard work and dedication, but God helps those who help themselves.
Canaan, i.e.: Israel as we know it today, was a fertile land then as well. Odd that in the intervening centuries following their removal -hrmm, i see this devolving into yet another of my ‘proofs’ that the bible is a hostorical record so I shall desist. You all don’t need convincing.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 9:59amYep. Heard what ELSE the UN is doing?… Not here, but on my news site (not mine personally) it tells how the UN. well here’s an excerpt: “The treaty calls for the west to achieve a 50% CO2 emissions reduction within the next eight years, a feat that would completely bankrupt the global economy and spark a new great depression, as well as a “more than 100%” reduction by 2050, which presumably could only be accomplished by killing billions of humans to prevent them from exhaling carbon dioxide.“ and ” The text calls for a 2 degree Celsius drop in global temperatures, which as Monckton points out “would kill hundreds of millions” and herald a new ice age.” And the last bit i’ll give you is the clincher “All military forces would be abolished because they contribute to climate change.”
Come on Blaze, get with the program!

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 11:14amAll you have to do to see the UN’s effectiveness is look at their first ever peacekeeping force. You know, the one that in 1967 LEFT because Nasser told them to. People complain about what Israel did in 1967 but the UN was the one that allowed it to happen by pulling out. Why do you think Israel kept the Sinai until the treaty was signed with Saddat? They had learned that they could only trust themselves with their own security.
