Israeli Former General: We’ll Have to Bulldoze Gaza

Retired Israeli Major General Yoav Galant said Monday that Israel’s “lack of action” and military “negligence” has escalated the situation in Gaza to a such a degree that the country will soon be forced to undertake a massive ground offensive — in the end, with “bulldozers” — in the Hamas-run enclave.
Israel National News adds:
Galant told attendees of a speech at Tel Aviv University that Israel’s concerted efforts to dismantle against terrorinfrastructures in Judea and Samaria caused terror levels to plummet, while Gaza terrorists were being allowed to thrive and build.
“A lack of action, negligence by military officials, has resulted in a situation in the West Bank where we took care to tend the lawn, but in Gaza - since we didn’t – thorns grew into tree trunks.”
“In the end we’ll have to go in with bulldozers,” Galant added.
Galant, a former contender for IDF chief of staff, added that Gaza is “something belonging to the Islamic bloc. That’s a reality no one knows how to solve.”
According to INN, Galant joins former IDF chiefs of staff Shaul Mofaz, Moshe Yaalon, Dan Halutz, and Gabi Ashkenazi in calling for massive operations to root out and dismantle Gaza’s terror infrastructure. Minister of Internal Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch has also publicly called for a Gaza incursion.
Israel’s strategic paradigm of airstrikes-for-rockets has largely been seen as maintaining the poor security situation of its Gaza belt communities – which have had over 12,000 rockets fired at them from Gaza since 2001.
The timing of Galant‘s remarks come as Hamas’ leadership finds itself in a tenuous position in Damascus as the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad comes under increasing domestic and international pressure for him to step down
And as the Muslim Brotherhood and other hardline, Israel-hostile Islamists rises to power in Egypt, Iran’s proxies are growing in strength, reach and numbers, leaving Israel increasingly vulnerable to attack.

Posted on December 6, 2011 at 5:41amThere is no way to force Jews to go against the inherent programming of their upbringing and commit an atrocity in Gaza on the scale of the one the Arabs would certainly commit if tables were turned. Judaism’s hold on Jews and Israel (even the non-religious ones) is a moderating influence.
But, the mass movement of a population has to be considered: it was done in the past, and it can be done again. Israel is reaching a breaking point where continued belligerence on our borders can not be tolerated.

Brian, above is right. Israel is holding an untenable position, and it can’t be maintained for any length of time now, because the rest of the MIddle East is catching up technologically, and they outnumber that tiny country by at least 300 million people.
While I agree Israeli dominance poses far less threat to genocide than an Arab takeover would, they are still committing atrocities on the people in the area which can’t be condoned under the mantle of self defense.
Make peace with your neighbors, Israel……somehow…….. or you are doomed to oblivion.

Such as repelling those who try to storm their borders and climb their border fences? Or returning fire when fired upon from across the border? Or returning fire when boarding a ship trying to run the blockade?
Are these your so called “atrocities” or do you have any examples of non self defense “atrocities”?

Posted on December 6, 2011 at 3:09pmRobert, you really can’t know what goes on in Israel till you visit and speak to people. You can’t understand what the settlements in Judea and Samaria look like or feel like until you walk through them. It’s hard to grasp how empty that land is today: how the Arab villages cling to the valley floors and the water while the Jewish towns are built up on the ridges.
I was, perhaps, more extreme and certain of my knowledge of the evils of Islam BEFORE I came to live her. Before I found myself doing business with Arabs, both Israeli and from the PA controlled areas. They have issues with the IDF but, quietly, most will tell you stories that are no worse than anything you go through in a typical US airport 2 days before Thanksgiving!
I’ve written a fair bit about this: if you’re interested check out the following two posts chosen from many:

“Robert, you really can’t know what goes on in Israel till you visit and speak to people. You can’t understand what the settlements in Judea and Samaria look like or feel like until you walk through them.”
No, Brian, you’re right, I don’t know what goes on in Israel right now on a daily basis nor anything about the geographical differences.
But that wouldn’t affect my overall evaluation of the potential military threat and the demographics of the area. Israel is in an untenable position. They can’t hold their present position forever. Their neighbors are getting stronger, more technologically advanced and the sheer numbers against them are phenomenol. Egypt will also soon be strong again with leadership from the Muslim Brotherhood.
As we go into 2012 the US will be getting much weaker economically and will not be able to afford the kind of support to Israel they’ve enjoyed in the past. Soon a US involvement in the Middle East will be unthinkable. I look for federal aid to be cut as well to Israel, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, etc. This US financial situation is far graver than they’re letting on. It will get REALLY severe.
There’s a faction in Israel that agrees with that assessment. They would rather be reduced in power and territory than annihilated altogether.
It’s just a matter of time. The present situation can’t hold.

Posted on December 7, 2011 at 12:26amNice to see some intelligence on The Blaze, thought I was alone. I’ve spent most of the last decade living in the ME. I’ve spent time in Israel, West Bank, and all the surrounding countries, plus numerous others. Israel’s only long-term option is to find peace with the Palestinians. Without getting into the finger pointing it‘s obvious at this point that just isn’t going to happen. And driving the Indians west sure isn’t an option either… I’m thinking North Dakota would be a good place to move them…? You know the Island of Iceland only has a population of 300,000 but has a land mass over 5 times the size of Israel (including the West Bank). They should just conquer Iceland and plant their flag. Surely their military is more than strong enough to take it. :)

It will not be contained there! It will be $10 gasoline and rationing. It will lead to food shortages once farmers can’t get fuel to grow crops here in America. This is one reason why the price of crude keeps rising despite the lower consumption in the winter months.
Plan and prepare accordingly!

Posted on December 6, 2011 at 12:53amDestruction is not to be taken lightly, to end your opponent, obliterate his home, his legacy, and accept the consequences of the innocent who will suffer, it is an option to be undertaken when no other measures are left. That is the problem though, these people have lived for so long wallowing in their own hatred and having such fanatical faith in their leaders, that fate has almost become inevitable for them. Just as it once took burning the cities of Japan to wake their rulers up to their own mortality and make them stop, we have come to the same problem.

Posted on December 6, 2011 at 7:52amDeath is all these barbarians understand. Kill them and they will stop, take any other action and they will continue.
Conflict does not end until one side is defeated. Not just in the middle east, but anywhere. Unfortunately in armed conflict, defeating your enemy means killing as many of them as possible and breaking their will to fight. Not breaking their stuff, not putting sanctions on them, but killing so many of them that they are terrified of continuing.
That’s the problem with our own military. We no longer fight to win and we haven’t won a war since we stopped fighting to win(WWII).
Until we re-learn this simple truth, we will not win any current or future wars either…

That was my war also. We lost it.
My dad fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was an early advisor. When he returned in June 1963, he applied for retirement. He believed that the US couldn’t win an armed conflict because the South Vietnamees were so corrupt. When I went over in July 1970, we had already begun drawing down the troop levels. Five years later, NVA tanks rolled into Saigon. They won.

Posted on December 6, 2011 at 4:26pmI’m thankful for your service.I know that the ground troops fought tooth and nail. The point we are trying to make is that the military can’t win a war when the top civilians are more interested in losing than winning.By the way you are wrong on the fact that ww2 vets only served roughly 10 day stretches. They more or less were there for the duration once they got overseas.Especially at the end of the war .Look I don‘t mean you any harm but vietnam wasn’t anything like ww2.Not even close.

Posted on December 6, 2011 at 10:25pmDid you post this as a text message from your Cricket phone? On another note I walked by this black girl in downtown Pittsburgh Monday who was talking to another black girl. The one girl had her Muslim garb all drawn up and all you could see were her eyes through a slit…the other girl was dressed in regular street clothes. The one with the Burka or whatever you call it was swearing like a sailor….MF this MF that…those MF’ers…and as I walked by the two…I thought…I guess American inner city black girls who convert to Burka wearing still swear like sailors. If that is the kind of Muslimism you know WAKEUPUSA2012….then that might explain why you feel the way you do. I for one am not convinced in any way other than fundamental Islamism is not only a sort of mental disorder…but it’s adherents cannot be trusted as far as they can be thrown…or in this thread’s case…as far as they can be bulldozed.

Posted on December 6, 2011 at 2:47amIsrael needs to tread lightly until they have no choice which will be soon. China and Russia have pledged their alegance to Iran and the Arab world. Our president is as two faced as they come so will we back Israel? I cannot honestly say that I believe we are on the right side anymore, our universities are pro muslim, our media is leaning that way. For a rude awakening as to how close this is go to link.org, and pay attention to Glenn.
This president has uprooted every Israeli supporting leader and is leaving the Israeli hating leaders unchecked. Europe has been anti-israel for at least 15 years now and maybe even 20. Europe has become more agnostic and athiestic over the last 20 years.
This happens here in America because Christians are betting on the left behind syndrome, where christians get taken out in the rapture before all of this bad stuff happens. I am not so sure that we don’t go mid trib where 3 1/2 years of the tribulation is experienced by Christians. There are some very smart people that believe in both scenarios. Pre-trib and mid-trib are both defensible in scripture.
Whatever happens Christians need to pray for our jewish brothers and that there is a peaceful solution.
