Israeli Military Cancels Traditional Passover Vacation & Orders All Troops on Alert

Members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) won’t be enjoying too much time off as is normally the case during Passover. The eyebrow-raising move to cancel vacation and order all army officials to be on alert comes as tensions in the Middle East are at a fever-pitch.
According to YNetNews, Chief of Staff Benny Gantz has ordered that all IDF units cancel the break that is traditionally granted. Every unit will reportedly operate to its full and normal capacity throughout Passover.
This, of course, will require that thousands of soldiers who typically take a break during the holiday will be forced to report for duty — for at least a portion of it, anyway. In the end, soldiers will need to divide vacation days among themselves in order to ensure that all military units are at optimal strength.
YNetNews continues, explaining the long-time tradition that will be broken during this year’s Passover:
Over the years, an army-wide break during Passover became a tradition followed by all major military units, including the Air Force, Navy and intelligence corps. The IDF’s headquarters in Tel Aviv is also traditionally deserted during the holiday.
With tensions so high in the region, it’s no surprise that many have wondered if the decision to remain fully operational is indicative of a covert military plan of action. IDF officials, though, have dismissed such claims, with officials saying that Gantz simply wasn’t supportive of the notion that an army-wide vacation was necessary during the holiday season.
Trend has more about the questions surrounding this intriguing scenario:
The sudden decision, only a week before the holidays, comes amid heightened rumors of an Israeli strike on Iran, and tensions ahead of the Palestinian Land Day. [...]
The IDF is beefing up security in Israel and the West Bank, ahead of the Palestinian Land Day on Friday, which will be marked by rallies in Israel to commemorate the deaths of six Israeli Arabs protesting Israeli government land policies.
Coinciding with Land Day is the Global March to Jerusalem, which urges pro-Palestinian activists to try to break Israel’s fences from all its borders, in order to infiltrate the country and march into Jerusalem.
The Blaze told you last week that controversial American Rev. Jeremiah Wright (President Barack Obama’s former pastor) is allegedly backing the “March on Jerusalem.” The event aims, as stated by Trend and our past coverage, to end what Palestinians and their enthusiasts see as Israeli occupation.
Here’s a video promoting the event:
Haaretz also claims that Israel is currently making preparations to deal with Land Day demonstrations. The military has apparently “finalized its instructions concerning circumstances under which soldiers can open fire along the borders and in the territories.”
While fears over an Iranian strike are in the minds of some leaders and citizens, alike, it’s possible that Israel is merely attempting to prepare for intense protests that are scheduled to unfold on its borders in the coming days and weeks. Rather than toning down military power, leaders may simply be playing it safe to manage unrest if and when it occurs.
Passover begins on the evening of April 6 and ends on the evening of April 14. This is the first time in many years that the vacation has been cancelled.

Muslims have fought wars against each other often whether it is the Arab and Persian conflict of the recent past or amongst the individual sunni and shiite sects. However, obama is trying to cash in on the political killing of UBL, duplicitous dealings with the palestinians, and on his support for the Arab spring. He thought he could work with certain muslim states (like he was caught selling out the American public with the recent open mic with medvedev) like the persians in iran with soft dialogue while selling out the Israelis.
Now it is one big mess and obama is still being drug against his will to responsibly support our allies, but only because their is an election and once that election is over Israel and others (Poland and the Czechs…) are going to be fully abandoned and thrown to the wolves…
His foreign policy is not driven by principle but by vindictiveness and internal animus to traditional American values.

In the Old Testament portion of the Holy Bible, the Lord stated that the sons of Esau (Arabs) would be like a wild @ss, with his hand against his brothers and neighbors all around. God stated the Arabs would be fighting each other as well as all they come in contact with.
And God’s word proved to be true to this day. The Arabs cannot get along with ANYONE, even battling and warring amongst themselves. As bad and violent as they were 3 to 4 thousands years ago is pale in comparison to their love of bloodshed today. These grieving Arab parents weep on national TV over their dead children. The same children they encouraged to strap bombs on their bodies, assuring them them such an action would bring honor to the family and entrance into paradise. These families are also paid $10k per child that made the sacrifice.
The sons of Esau are depraved, going beyond madness of mind entering into an evil darkness of spirit.

If this muslim-in-chief that sits in OUR White House would allow drilling here, and would allow oil pipelines to be installed, our gas prices could go down. In fact, if we could drill for the alleged 2+ Trillion (with a ‘T’) barrels of oil underneath our soil, we would not have to purchase ANY gas from the arabs and there is no reason we could not go back to under $2.00 (or even under $1.00) per gallon gasoline.

Look there’s no honest debate here. I suspect tzion would be one of the very few willing to have a somewhat intelligent conversation but the bottom line is that the native people of Palestine which are Arabs have a legitimate gripe and a cause.
If you support Israel or Jews you are likely to see only there side or if you support the Palestinians then perhaps you only see their point of view. I just want an honest and open debate on all topics.. but experience has taught me that this is the most one sided debate in America today and that’s obviously a result of those controlling our Media.

Report Post »As true as it is that the rockets from Gaza are of pathetically low sophistication and that they are low yield, the fact remains that they are being fired at civilian targets. I certainly wouldn’t want something the size of those rockets possessing enough energy to fly through the air exploding in my backyard. The only reason why there have been so few Israeli casualties from these rockets is due to the combined factors of the rockets having poor accuracy and the the fact that all Israeli residences, by law, must have access to a bomb shelter. And let’s not forget, the main reason Hamas uses those rockets is because their preferred tactic of using bomb vests is severely hindered by Israeli checkpoints.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 9:44amI’m getting close to 67, and one of my strongest memories as a child is being told by my mom Israel was now home, called to Israel and Jerusalem, AND NOTHING AND NO ONE WOULD TAKE IT AWAY AGAIN. She had us sitting by her and reading some of the scritptures from the bible. She felt this was wonderfull news, and showed the bible speaks truth of the coming times. We have certainly seen other countries think they were going to, but it didn’t work out well for them then, and it won’t now. Go Israel. I support you.

This never has been about the middle east for Ron Paul supports but apparently it is everything for all the rest of the Republicans.
This has always been about freedom and liberty under the Constitution. The individual is losing more and more withing our borders and your worried about the boogeyman that we created. YES WE created. The Empires of the world have been trying to colonize the middle east ever since oil came into the picture. It just so happens they seem to have a longer attention span than we do.
