(The Blaze/AP) Israeli police say a TV crew has been attacked by a group of ultra-Orthodox Jewish men in a city that has become a symbol of violent religious extremism.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says ultra-Orthodox men surrounded a Channel 2 news truck in Beit Shemesh and hurled stones at it, lightly wounding one member of the TV crew.
He says the rioters also stole TV equipment.
Beit Shemesh is a city of 85,000 just outside Jerusalem. On Friday, Channel 2 aired a story about tensions in the city between modern Orthodox residents and the extremist ultra-Orthodox Haredi sect.

The story featured an 8-year-old American girl who says she is afraid to walk to school in the morning because the town’s Haredim have spat on her and cursed her. The Jerusalem Post reports that a haredi man from Beit Shemesh was released from the Jerusalem Magistrate Court Sunday for spitting at a woman he claimed was dressed immodestly.
The Post reports that a leader of the Beit Shemesh Eda Haredit group, Rabbi Shimon Shasi, had testified on the spitter’s behalf and told the court that while spitting or throwing things at women is forbidden, the haredim actually treat their women “like kings.”
Jerusalem police have pleaded with municipality inspectors to work with police to take down signs around the city demanding modest dress, including signs requiring pedestrians to wear modest clothes or, in one case, asking women to cross to the other side of the street in order to avoid walking by a yeshiva.

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 11:51amThis is not representative of all Jews! I am an American Jew who travels to Israel quite often. Sadly these people have quite a lot of kids, so their numbers are growing. Most modern Israeli Jews almost never go to Jerusalem unless they are visiting the Western Wall or a member of the government. Other than Jerusalem and settlements in the West Bank, Israeli Women wear short shorts and bikinis. Israel is a very modern, Western country. Most Haredi even avoid the military draft in Israel, and when walking in a Haredi neighborhood in Jerusalem I saw many posters comparing the Israeli government and police to the Nazis. These people are not Israel! Also, when leaving Jerusalem by car on Friday night, Haredi lining the road shouted at us, though luckily did not throw stones, as has happened to many people (we were on the border of a Haredi neighborhood, along a road which the Haredi seek to close down on Friday night and Saturday, as the roads in Haredi neighborhoods are. They can’t close it down because it is the main road in and out of Jerusalem).

Currently around 10% of all Jews are part of this “small sect” as you call it. Most of them are located in Israel, and as has been mentioned, they will likely become 20% of the Jewish population there within the next decade or two.
Religious fundamentalists (Christian, Jewish, Islamic, or any other) are extremely dangerous to a society based upon law rather than religious belief.

Your statement reveals your ignorance regarding where the Law comes from – due to your ignorance of the Law giver.
Yeshua said: “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-20)

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 3:55pmAs an orthodox Jew I think I need to clarify things a little bit for the comment section.
Report Post »1. Jewish religous law does require that a woman dress modestly in public. this however foes not mean a Burqa or something that hides the womanfrom head to toe. Rather it is probably most simiiar to the way normal women dressed right here in the US prior to the 60′s and the sexual revolution. or the way a typical women dresses in an office, Skirt below the knee and sleeves below the elbow. Nothing constricting I would say more like digified.
2. Jewish law also does not allow one to spit on someone else. The individuals that spit on people are wrong and do not represent all Haredim
3. As far as keeping the sexes seperate as much as possible. In the US until sometime inthe 50′s public schools had seprate entrances for boys and girls. Nowaday some charter schools also are seperated. Studies have shown that people learn better and perform better when seperated from the opposite sex. This does not mean that women are lower than men, on the contrary it means that we put up fences to protect morality.
4. Now I’m sure most reasonable people would agree that our society has not improved because of the sexual revolution, rather society has lost morals, looks at promicuity as the norm. Women have been more sexualized by putting up billboards with underwear models, and now if you believe the word of G-D that homosexuality is a sin or that sexuality should be in the bedroom you’re a hatemong

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 10:25pm“This is a small radical sect,” you said.
Well… as of 2011, the total Jewish population of Israel is 5,818,000.
In the same 2011, the Haredi sect has 1.3 Million Jews; the sect is growing rapidly and doubles every 12 to 20 years. Which means that today the Haredi sect comprises about 22.35% of Jewish population of Israel.
I don’t know about you, but I am tired of under-educated, in many aspects simply illiterate Americans.
For your convenience: the Black population in the USA is 12.6%; the Hispanic population – 16.3% (Census 2010).
And 22.3% of Haredim doubling every 12 to 20 years in Israel is to you a “small group”? Wow!
But I’d like to propose a small logical game based on “Yes or No” questions.
Report Post »Are the “ultra-orthodox“ Haredim following the Torah more consistently than the ”modern” orthodox Jews?
Any literate person would answer “Yes.”
Can we therefore come to a conclusion that the Torah primordial requirements with regard to women place in the Jewish society are a lot more strict than modern religious Jews want to obey?
The answer again is “Yes”.
Consequently, in terms of treatment of women, which religion is the orthodox Judaism closer to – Christianity or Islam?

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 1:40amNice numbers you got there Mr CONSTANTINE IVANOV. But you missed a small and a lightly important detail. The Haredi Jews are the modern orthodox Jews and there are 1.3 Million of them living in Israel.

And just so people know where I am coming from, I do equate myself as a Christian. I consider myself non-denominational now, but had equated myself as Presbyterian in my younger years.
If this was a Christian group I would condemn their actions as much as I condemn the Haredi’s actions. If you want to keep your traditions, then live with like minded people. If you decide to live outside this area, then you get what you get. Either learn to live with it or move.

People have their own reasons. For me it can be summarized by the following two.
1. Israel represents the only beach head of western civilization in ME.
2. Israel is a canary in a coal mine. If Israel falls, we are not far behind.
As for monies given away by SD… These particular give-aways were started by Carter administration. You can look up the official rationale (reward for peace process). But for me, it is interesting that the transfers were initiated by a known anti-semite. My take is that the Egypt is simply paid off for jealousy reasons. In the case of Israel, Carter intended to keep Israel on a leash.
Worked well during Gulf War 1991.
I would cancel all the payments in the current form and left only the loans or convert all the transfers into loans (Israel always repays them, so that is like money in the bank plus interest). That would free Israel from undue influence of US admin on Israeli politics. No transfers to Egypt, Jordan, etc. If they want aid, loans only.
Egypt military knows that the moment it loses its hold on Egypt, the transfers are likely to stop. The GDP is currently in a state of free fall (tourism–the main source of revenue–is effectively dead) and the transfers-sinecure keeps the military going. That is the core of the current Egyptian problems in the nutshell. Islamists have their own streams of revenue, though nowhere near that size. Transfers stop=Egypt’s going into a c

Any person that can read even their Torah and behave this way is nuts. every non Christian jewish friend and jewish family member I have would never not in a million years act this way or condone this behavior. This is contrary to biblical principles laid out by God in the Old Testament. In the book of numbers when they were dividing up the promised land to the tribes of Israel, there was a group of women who’s father had passed away and who under current pagan society and culture of the time wouldnt have been able to inherit their fathers land or money. Was the way of the middle east and still very much today. the culture gave no money or land to women which was not what God had intended. God intervened on behalf of these women and gave them their fathers land and fortune with one condition, they marry within their tribe so another tribe wouldn’t marry them to take their name over their land and money. God was the first original “feminist” in the sense he created both men and women and radically for his day gave women the “right” to be priest holders land owners heiresses etc. One expamle of this story of the land would be the book of numbers. These misguided Jews apparently skipped giant portions of scripture when they concluded this is a behavior God would want. This is the very attitude he credited to other nations, not his own people. Read the story in Numbers and then hop over to the book of Esther. Both stories are well worth the time and a small sample of women in the bible that have done great things.

Words have meaning. In our times, the meanings have been shifted and subjected to relativist deconstruction, This is in order to create “trojan horses”, a method successfully employed by the PC paradigm and ideological considerations. Thus, the term “feminist” acquires a benign coating, while it in reality espouses a radical ideology. By inappropriate use/context, one may create an impression that feminism is okay, while in reality it is a corrosive and destructive ideological tool.

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 12:30amThis article tells what they did but not why. I’m not Jewish so I have no idea why they would do this.
It almost sonds like they treat women the same way the Arabs do, why?????
I am a man and I can’t understand why anyone would want to treat women or anyone like this, why do you think you are better than they are.
I think you better read Proverbs 31 (A virtuous woman) especially V30, and just wish you could live up these things. I don’t know who you think you are but pride got Satan kicked out of Heaven, beware.

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 11:56amTHIS IS NOT ORDINARY JEWISH BEHAVIOR!!!!!!! These people have decided that for women to dress “modestly” is to cover up everything, which is not the case!
Report Post »COFemale
Posted on December 26, 2011 at 1:26pmWhen men want to cover a woman from head to toe indicates a weakness in them, not the women. They feel if they can hide temptation, it will make them the better man for not lusting after the women. By no means am I suggesting it is okay for women to dress like harlots or walk around in a bikini when no body of water is around, but men must recognize their own weaknesses first and learn to combat the temptations put before them.
I mean look at Muslim men, they expect their women to be virtuous otherwise expect stoning, yet these same men have no problem looking at porn, sleeping with hookers, going to strip joints, and having more than one wife? If anyone lacks honor it is these types of men. Their weakness, their dishonor, but they thrust their guilt upon their wives, daughters, girlfriends or other female family members.
SO NOW TELL ME WHO IS THE WEAKER SEX?

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 10:54amZenga, any idea what Zionism means?
Very simply, it is an idea that Jews have a right to live peacefully in their own homeland. That’s it. There is no dark conspiracy or undertones to take over the world. Note that the “Jews” that display the tendencies for power acquisition are usually self-hating, anti-Zionist ones. Like Soros. In fact, they tend to think that Zionism stands in their whichever-way. It narrows the playing field for them.

Posted on December 25, 2011 at 10:32pmThey have learned from the Islamist in that region that spitting on someone is a show of respect, especially if its a woman. As for the modest dress, they just don’t like it when men wear the flashy miniskirst with a tube top, come on, the men should be wearing a lowcut burka with pearls and sensiable high heels. Also it was reported that there were too many people wearing white after labor day, a complete faux pas.
