Israelis Investigating Footage that Seemingly Shows West Bank Settlers Shooting Unarmed Palestinian Man

The non-governmental group B’Tselem released footage Sunday of a seemingly deadly stand-off that occurred Saturday between Israeli settlers and Palestinian men near the settlement of Yitzhar and the town of Asira al-Qibliya.

In the video, a group of presumed Palestinians is throwing rocks at what appear to be the settlers, who are armed with rifles.  Less than a minute into the video, a man named as 24-year-old Fathi Asayira is seemingly shot in retaliation by a settler armed with a rifle.

As the man who was allegedly shot is carried away by his companions, the settlers and what appears to be Israeli soldiers on the scene back away into the distance.

“The video footage raises grave suspicions that the soldiers present did not act to prevent the settlers from throwing stones and firing live ammunition at the Palestinians,” said B’Tselem. “The soldiers did not try to remove the settlers and in fact are seen standing by settlers while they are shooting and stone throwing.”

A statement from the Palestinian Prime Minister’s office reads: “The gravity of the footage lies not only in the settlers’ provocations and shooting live ammunition towards unarmed residents, but also in the irresponsibility of the Israeli soldiers who stood watching the events.”

However, Yitzhar spokesman Avraham Binyamin told the Jerusalem Post that the men with guns were security personnel who were trying to protect settlers and put out a fire (which he says was started by the Palestinians), adding that the settlement had been on the receiving end of many attacks from local Palestinians.

The IDF maintains: “There was a shooting during the incident and the matter is being investigated‚ but on the surface, the video that was released does not seem to represent the whole incident.”

      Shooting rock throwers works well. They stopped throwing rocks, picked up wounded dude, and while hollering a bunch of pro Allah jiberish, ran away.

      If they show up, and throw more rocks, shoot more of them. sooner or later, they may get smart, and leave.

      Bring a rock to a gunfight and this is what happens…we don’t know everything here, but the whole hillside was smoldering (I would imagine a molotov cocktail was thrown) on top of the rocks.     Oh wel l. Boo hoo. That’s what you get for throwing rocks and trying to attack settlers. I have no remorse for the man who was shot. I have no remorse for his family. That protester put himself in that situation & because of that if he caught a bullet to the face I’m not shedding tears. Sufferering is having to live in fear that anyone of those protesters would most likely kill an Israeli family given the chance. I think Israel is done with the restraint thing as they should. No more. Leave them alone & you’ll find so much more would be waiting for the “palestinians” in the form of assistance & the forming of a viable country. Maybe viable is too strong a word, but a country none the less.

      Who’s trespassing on whose land you idi0t. The settlers are the primary obstacle to lasting peace, and have no qualms of not only stealing Palestinian land, but also of hindering Palestinians access to their olives trees during harvesting, and all the while Israeli soldiers just watch and do nothing. Netanyahu doesn’t give a sh*t either. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. Just do some simple googling and don’t get spoon-fed all your faulty info from the Blaze for God’s sake.

      Show me the law where it says settling unowned land is stealing. Israeli settlements aren’t built on the remains of Arab towns nor were any of the dwellings built as part of an Arab town. Until you can provide me with a name of even one person who was driven from his house so an Israeli could live there all you’re doing is spouting words that you heard from somebody else who clearly knew nothing.

      And as for “impediments to peace”, I would say being violent, aggressive, uncooperative…pretty much anything other than PEACEFUL, is an impediment to peace. And launching rockets at civilians counts as aggressive, violent, and EVIL.

      Right. Never mind the fact that this was apparently the third week in a row that arsonists from the Arab village had started fires just west of Yitzhar, and that an Arab mob attacked the firefighters with rocks when they arrived to fight the fires.

      This is just the Arabs’ “Arson Season” which has become a tradition with them. You can’t fault them for following their “traditions” can you?

      Islam believes that non-muslims are lower than human and worthy of extinction, esp the Jews.

      @Majasdad — please reread my post more carefully. I did not say anything abt a muslim. I spoke to what ISLAM preaches fm its texts – the koran, haddith, and al sunnah.

      If you are muslim and willing to put aside the political aspects of Islam, then I have no quarrel with you. If you insist that I must adhere to shariah, we are not going to get along.

      Textbook Islam preaches the inferiority of all non-muslims, esp the Jews. Islam’s goal is to conquer the world and implement shariah worldwide. Those who choose to remain non-muslim are fit only for slavery, concubinage, or death. That is not “radical” Islam but textbook Islam. I cannot help it that the “radicals” are in complete agreement w/their religious texts.

      Majasdad, the largest obstacle standing in the way of peace over there is Palestinians allowing themselves to be used as pawns against Israel. Arabs, Jews, and Christians all live together in Israel. Israel is not what is wrong with the middle east. Israel is what is right in the middle east.     Sorry, but there was never a country call Israel. The people of the West Bank was there before the Jews were relocated. With that said….neither parties are going to move, but the Jews needs to stop building further and further into the native peoples land. Come on……wouldn’t you fight if your land was being forcefully taken????

    They need to make an agreement regarding land and stick to it.

      The settlers continue because they have given land and halted settlements many times as part of agreements that the Palestinian have either violated or refused to agree to.

      One point you need to understand, Palestinian leaders have no interest in peace. They want Israel annihilated.

      You can go back to hundreds of dates to claim who owns land (Great Britain owned it for a while), they need to stop this and build walls and hold them and then they need to shoot people who violently cross the boundaries.

      Define “forcefully taken”. If you mean driving people from their land so you can build there, perhaps you should look elsewhere. Israeli settlements are built on land that was previously undeveloped. There was no one to steal it from. The fact is that even though Israel has halted settlement building in the past and even forcefully removed Israelis from the homes and businesses they had built (who’s land was forcefully taken again?), Israel has received nothing in return. There are ZERO Israelis living in Gaza today and yet they still launch rockets at Israel. They even destroyed the flower export company Israel STOLE FROM ISRAELIS to give to the Palestinians.

      Do some research and you‘ll find that Israel hasn’t gone ONE YEAR since its founding (that‘s 64 years for those of you who can’t count) without some form of terrorist or military action being taken against it. And when PA leaders routinely meet with murderers and treat they as heroes, I’m sure the real issue is how many “settlements” there are.

      The land was originally called Canaan when inhabited by the locals who migrated into it. It was taken slowly and renamed Israel. It split into Israel (10 northern “lost” tribes) and Judah in the south. Assyria overran it and displaced some of the Children of Jacob (Israel). Later Babylon overran Judah and took the leadership into Exile. Persia released the captives who returned to Jerusalem and nearby.
      Under successive Jewish and non-Jewish regimes, the area controlled by Jews increased to incl what is called the “West Bank,” namely Judea and Samaria. After 2 unsuccessful revolts, the Romans drove many Jews out and renamed the area after the Hebrews greatest Biblical foe -Philistines- calling the province Syria-Palestine. The population of Judea-Samaria declined w/the collapse of the western part of the Roman Empire.
      Byzantium (Eastern Roman Empire) was in charge but did not really bother to populate the land. This region was overrun by Arabs in a muslim land grab. It was then held by successive caliphs until the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire at the end of WWI when Europe colonized the area.
      It was then part of the Trans-Jordan-Palestine mandate held by the Brits while the French took the mandate over other sections of the Middle East like Lebanon and Syria.
      Out of that multiple nation-states were created, modern Israel being but one: Saudi Arabia, the other smaller peninsular states like Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan.

      Furthermore, the so-called Palestinians were Jewish until Yasser Arafat came on the scene and changed them to the Arabs living there and gave them a cause.

      All but a fraction of the Arabs living there came fm Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria as workers for the Brits. Jerusalem was a majority Jewish city in the mid-1800s. Few Arabs gave a hoot abt the land until the Jews began immigrating in the late 1800s and after WW2. Then, suddenly it’s holy to the Arabs for the first time.

      Jerusalem is not even directly mentioned in the koran. Mohammed never visited the Holy Land in his life. He traveled to Syria where the markets were. The area we call Israel was all but abandoned in his day.

    The Palestinians were not unarmed. They had sharp as knives rocks and were stoning the Jewish settlers, who were protecting their women and children. In addtion the palestinians had ignited property not belonging to them that could kill women and children and threatened livestock and food supplies, homes and businesses.

    Plus who provided the video? It is not like they don’t stage faux images also. So is the provider of the video of ill repute with an agenda? Also, it does not make any difference as the Palestinians provoked and commited illegal acts and anyone has a right to defend themselves, their property, their family and their neighbors and their towns, cities and states. They are fortunate they all were not all shot. Showed great restraint on the Settlers, if this video is even real or just propaganda.

They should be throwing rocks at the coutry who has all their land. Trans-Jordan, Hasemite Kingdom, Jordan etc… They have 90% of the land granted to Israel & “Palenstine”.       Or matches, setting fires at the bottom of the hill with the intent of burning out the village on the top. Oh, and that little fact that the rock throwing was intended to prevent firefighters from putting out the fire. ROCK + FIRE… so what is so different than a gun?

      No they are never innocent.

      It’s obvious from the 3rd video at youtube that they Palestinians are wooping and throwing rocks.

      The truth is the Palestinian set fire to the settlers village and then threw rocks down on them when they came to put the fires out. The Palestinian have no interest in peace and this ongoing propaganda campaign is the standard mode of operation. Threaten people and then create video of thems defending themselves.

      The town of Palestinians has hundreds of people in it. Why would the settlers pick a fight, they just want to be left alone.
