Israel‘s ’Iron Dome’ Rocket Defense System Deploys Today

JERUSALEM (AP) — A new defense system meant to protect southern Israel from Gaza militants’ rockets will go into operation on Sunday, the Israeli military said, after weeks of stepped-up rocket and mortar attacks that have drawn fears of renewed war.
The Islamic Jihad militant group reported that two of its members were killed and another was wounded in an Israeli airstrike early Sunday on Gaza. The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the report.
Gaza militants, including Islamic Jihad and the territory’s Hamas rulers, had said over the weekend that they would cease fire if Israel did. A major problem with that pledge is the inability of the larger groups to control rogue militants from attacking.
Israel has said it does not want the violence to escalate.
Israeli defense officials’ earlier failures to deploy the $200 million Iron Dome anti-rocket system against the Palestinian attacks had raised many questions in Israel about its effectiveness. Home Front Minister Matan Vilnai told Army Radio on Sunday that even once it was deployed, the Iron Dome would still not provide full protection to residents of Israel’s south.
The Iron Dome will begin operating Sunday in the area of Beersheba, southern Israel’s largest city, the military said. A second missile battery will be deployed soon in another large southern city, Ashdod, the military added, without specifying an exact date.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak announced last week that the new system was being put into place but gave no exact date for when it would start operating.
Israel developed the system to protect itself from short-range rockets used against it by Palestinian militants to its south in Gaza and Hezbollah guerrillas to the north in Lebanon.
Millions of Israeli civilians are within rocket range.
The Iron Dome system uses cameras and radar to track incoming rockets and is supposed to shoot them down within seconds of their launch.
The renewed violence had fed concerns of a repeat of Israel’s December 2008 invasion of Gaza in response to years of rocket and mortar barrages on its southern communities.
Hundreds of civilians were among the 1,400 Palestinians killed, and widespread damage was caused to homes and businesses. Thirteen Israelis also died.

Change the firmware from: (1) launch, (2) arm, (3) travel to target, (4) explode; to (1) arm, (2) explode, (3) & (4) doesn’t much matter, a HUGE savings in programming effort! Now, when ‘fired’, the launch site will disappear at the same time as the missle! It doesn’t have to work EVERY time, just often enough that those who are running the launcher to consider ‘let’s NOT and SAY we DID’!

Thus, ANYONE could MEASURE just how many rockets had been launched from Gaza, by counting the ‘potholes’ from one end of Gaza to the other! The PEOPLE OF GAZA could be assured of their PERSONAL safety (but, not the safety of their property), because the ‘pockmarks’ of retaliation would move in a deliberate manner from one end of their neighborhood to the other. If it were, me, I’d move out when the distance from my home to the last shot were, say, half the distance from the shot before!

Who cares if those in Gaza get a ‘heads up’, the objective of this program is to remove real estate from those in Gaza, not to harm anyone! In areas like that of the Gaza strip I would suggest special op’s strikes and coordinatied with swift military raids to make life as miserable as possible for them.

As the IDF admits, it will not stop all of them or cover all of Israel, yet it is a start and hopefully will work out well for their defense.

They want it all and until they get it, there will be no peace. (Gee, that sounds an awful lot like labor union mentality) I think it shows unbelievable restraint and compassion that Israel hasn’t forced the entire population out of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip at the point of a gun. If it were my decision – I’d give them 3 choices: 1) Stay and play nice 2) Go somewhere else 3) We’ll dig a hole and put you in it. You have 10 seconds to make up your mind.

It would serve to unite this country to rise up and finally stop him (and his pro-Muslim agenda) in his tracks. I cannot imagine Obama ever going that far, even though he and his inner circle seem to have no foreign policy expertise at all. It boggles my mind that any American of Jewish descent would support this president in any way.

These ragheads will only understand and fear one thing….strength! And strength is demonstrated to them by collateral damage. It’s a sad cycle, but Israel needs to stay strong and not be worried about political correctness. It’s obvious now why America has always elected a President who has supported Israel and understood world affairs…unlike the current imposter’Nchief.

Over 1,400 Palestinian children have died since 2000, compared to 100 Israelis… 45,000 total Palestinians compared to 9,000 Israelis… Would there be peace if Palestine stopped attacking? Would Israel take their 236 illegal Jewish settlements off of Palestinian land if they stopped? Israel is bombing Gaza as we speak and actually killing people due to the fact that they believe it was Palestinians who bombed Jerusalem last week even though they have no shred of evidence to the accusations. Maybe if all you Zionists got your heads out of the sand and we stopped allowing out country to give Israel $3 billion a year then there would be peace!

They are trained from birth to be soldiers against Israel. Children and women are strapping bombs on themselves and mothers are praying that their sons grow up to be martyrs. When the Fogleys where slaughtered, women and children celebrated their deaths. There can’t be Arab/Palestinian civilian casualties because there are no non-combatants.
