‘It’s Nice But…’: Obama‘s Offer to Help Woman’s Jobless Husband Doesn’t Secure Her Vote

Obamas Latest Solution for Unemployment: Send Me Your Resume

While speaking to voters at a town hall (or rather a “Google+ hangout”) earlier this week, President Barack Obama had an out-of-the-ordinary yet personal answer to one voter who asked how the President would help educated unemployed people like her husband find a job when he is extending visas for foreigners: “Send me your husband’s resume.”

Now to be clear, the request for the resume was part of the President’s surprised reaction that someone with such experience would have difficulty finding a job because he often hears business leaders in that field talk about the scarcity of skilled workers. Nonetheless, some of the Presidents critics have had a field day with the soundbite which suggests such a simple solution to a complex problem.

The Republican National Committee set up a new website and video criticizing President Obama’s response that he finds it “interesting” that her husband could not find work. At “NotBetterOff.com” the RNC encourages you to upload your resume, and they will drop it off at the White House.

On CNN’s Early Start Wednesday morning, Jennifer Wedel, the woman in the video, said that Google personally made sure that the White House got her husband’s resume, and the White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations called the family Tuesday informing them that President Obama personally made it a point to get the resume out to several Dallas Fort-Worth contacts. While grateful for “Obama as a reference,” Wedel is still not sold on voting for the President. The life-long Republican told CNN co-host Zoraida Sambolin that the Wedels are still undecided, and note that helping them would be great but still doesn’t solve the larger problem.

“It’s nice but…well I mean it is,” Wedel, fidgeting a little in her seat, replied. “But we’re one person. There’s still lots of Americans in my husband’s position that don’t have jobs.” Wedel said. Wedel said if something was done by the President about H1B visas, she may change her opinion of President Obama, but notes “We’re just one American, I mean there’s still lots of Americans with no jobs.” Mediaite has footage of the interview:

On Tuesday night’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart jeered the President‘s answer to the Wedel’s question, as well as the chat’s general awkwardness, during the show’s “Pander Express Segment:”

I found it interesting that Ashleigh Bamfield, the CNN news babe on the left side of the screen, was admitted to the US on a H1B visa in the late 1990s, as she stated on that newscast.
H1B are for proved, underserved technical positions, sponsered by US companies when they cannot find a suitable US skilled worker.
What was Ms Bamfield’s in-demand technical skill that her employer could not find a US citizen to fill? AND, should she have lost that status when she switched jobs, first to MSNBC, then to TruTv?

Not to be crazy but first this lady needs to take advantage of Obama getting her husband a job as he is going to hired if the Obama asks one of his many bundlers, just make sure its not a solar company that will lay him off soon.

Then quietly not vote for him, because no one with a brain could vote for this guy… They may not like the republican and that make sense but to vote for such a failure that believes he controls your rights is just plain wrong…

Then when u get the invite to campaign rally state you are voting against him…. now soon after your husband will lose his job. File a suit for wrongful termination and then a republican company will pick him up for the headline….

Big win for your husband and you.

    What I would do anyway…

Got two things out of this story:

    * 1st Google insured that the resume got to the President. Rather scary that they have that kind of access.
    * 2nd the resume was sent out to the Dallas – Fort Worth area. That tells me that this guy only wants to work in his home town. While I understand that they may not want to or can not move right away but I find it real hard to feel sorry for people who do not adapt. I work with a girl who’s husband works and lives in Kentucky and she is in Missouri until she can find a job and settle out their affairs. Have a friend who commutes two hundred miles and stays in another town 4 days a week due to his job. When I lived in Sacramento I had many friends that worked in San Francisco and commuted 2-3 hours each way or had to take a train to work. You have to do what you have to do to get by.

I find Obama’s response to the woman particularly insulting and reeking of liberal/academic elitism. “Interesting”…followed by a flaccid assertion that his “people” tell him the woman’s husband should be almost falling over the amount of jobs available in his field of engineering. How this woman kept her calm in the face of that kind of arrognance and disconnection is astounding to me.

The government is the problem ! THAT’S HER POINT ! I know medical researchers who can’t get jobs . The companies are hiring foreigners, through this gov. visa program because the companies tell them they can’t find Americans, but the truth is they pay the foreigners much, much less.

I don’t recall her asking the government for help. She was asking why how he could justify the H1B Visas when there are so many Americans out of work. A question he never answered.

The problem seems to be with the fact companies have so many rules to follow to disqualify a person from working. With immigrants they have no way to disqualify so those people have no problem coming over here to work. Get rid of the reason to ridiculous reason to disqualify workers and no problem. Plenty of people to work right now.

Whoop-dee-dee, Obama is getting a job for one person. Meanwhile, the economy stays mired in recession and for the ones not privileged enough to personally ask Obama for a job, Obama is extending their unemployment and giving out food stamps like they were candy.

Got news for Obama, even kids get bored of candy eventually.

Have you noticed that without these visas we wouldn’t have any doctors. Here in little town – Oklahoma 3 new Dr.s are from India. The only problem I have is I can’t understand them. My family Dr. age 53 at the time 2 years ago retired. He refused to put up with shrinking Medicare payments, and Medicade. While his payments went down all other expenses went up and he wasn’t going to deal with Obamacare.

Everybody in healthcare believes it will be a much more efficient way of getting paid while being able to provide care. The truth is family Dr’s cannot make any money, especially in small markets. It is impossible, and also a huge problem. The dirty secret is during med school we get stalked by small town govt’s who will pay off med school debt if you work as a GP in their small town. Even with the incentive, working at a large hospital in a big city is much more appealing, I would rather work in a 3rd world hospital in a war zone, than be a GP in a small town. Its just not why we go to med school.

President Obama is out of touch. He does lip service to the issues but it is phony lip service because he just doesn’t get it……..doesn’t get what he is doing to hurt the economy………or he is doing it on purpose and doesn’t care because he has another agenda. Take your pick! Either way he doesn’t understand that the numbers he is showing the media are not real numbers and people in the real world know people who are out of work, and not filing for unemployment so the percentage out of work is far greater than any number he can come up with…….created or saved.
