Obama Re-Election Campaign Accuses Romney of Being a ‘Corporate Raider’ and Exploiting the Middle Class

Obama Re Election Campaign Accuses Romney of Being a ‘Corporate Raider’ and Exploiting the Middle ClassThe Obama re-election campaign is adding to the growing chorus of seemingly anti-capitalist rhetoric aimed at former governor Mitt Romney by attacking his oft-touted business record.

President Obama’s re-election campaign sent out a memo on Friday accusing Mitt Romney of “destroying companies and good-paying jobs in order to reap huge profits,” according to Jamie Dupree of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

These are some excerpts from the memo:

… Romney’s objective in business was never job creation.

…Romney closed over a thousand plants, stores and offices, and cut employee wages, benefits and pensions. He laid off American workers and outsourced their jobs to other countries. And he and his partners made hundreds of millions of dollars while taking companies to bankruptcy.

Although some of the businesses in which he took a stake undoubtedly added jobs, neither Romney’s campaign nor any independent fact checker has supported his claim of producing a net increase of 100,000 American jobs – or even anything close to it.

Armed with the facts, the American people will determine whether Mitt Romney’s track record shows he believes our prosperity will come from an economy where the wealthy and powerful can rig the game at the expense of working Americans, or every American who works hard and acts responsibly will have a fair shot at success. Voters can judge for themselves whether his vision for the future is based on outsourcing and bubble economies that enrich speculators and corporate raiders, or an economy built to last in which the productivity of our workers is rewarded.

Our economic crisis and endemic income inequality were caused in large part by a few who put profits over people. Taking advantage of an uneven playing field, where there was one rulebook for those at the top and another for everyone else, Mitt Romney and his friends made money hand over fist while working families lost their grip on the middle-class lifestyle they earned.

The memo’s authors quickly switch from condemning Romney to praising President Barack Obama for creating jobs and growing the economy:

[he] has taken formidable, decisive steps to protect free enterprise, investors and consumers – and why he’s fighting for an economy that’s built to last…

…the President championed Wall Street reform that requires more rigorous disclosure and tightens oversight of the kind of speculation that caused the market meltdown…

The memo also claims the president rescued the U.S. auto industry, revived manufacturing, and freed businesses from “burdensome regulations.”

However, it’s not the boasts about President Obama’s economic “successes” that have some critics scratching their heads. It’s the decision to attack Mitt Romney via private equity.

Considering the fact that President Obama has “both taken donations from the industry and appointed a number of private equity veterans to his administration,” as Alexander Burns of Politico writes, this line of attack seems very odd.

Here is a sampling of some of the “private equity veterans” President Obama has surrounded himself with (via Politico):

  • Jack Lew:  The new White House chief of staff was previously a managing director at Citi Alternative Investments
  • Nancy-Ann DeParle: A deputy chief of staff who helped lead the president’s health care reform effort was also a managing director at CCMP Capital
  • Jeffrey Goldstein: The recently-departed undersecretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance was also a managing director at Hellman & Friedman before he joined the administration. He’s returning to the private equity firm now that he has resigned
  • Steve Rattner: A former auto czar who came out of the world of private equity before briefly working with the administration
  • Mark Gallogly: Works for Centerbridge Partners, and is formerly of the Blackstone Group. He was on the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board
  • Richard Parsons: Former Time Warner executive on the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. He is also linked to Providence Equity Partners Inc
  • Walter Jones: Currently the U.S. executive director of the African Development Bank, he was also a senior private equity executive with Gravitas Capital Advisors

And these are just a few examples.

The list doesn’t even mention the other “private equity veterans” currently employed by the President’s Management Advisory Board, the Board for International Food and Agriculture Development, the National Infrastructure Advisory Council and the Advisory Committee of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

“If President Obama plans to campaign against Mitt Romney and the alleged evils of private equity, then he will need to start by purging the ranks of his own administration,” a private equity insider told Politico.

Final Thought: Seeing as how they’ve decided to target him specifically, as opposed to any of the other GOP candidates, it seems the Obama re-election campaign is confident Mitt Romney will win the GOP nomination.

Read the full memo here.

Actually, BCBuster, Obama hasn’t created any jobs but, rather, has caused more job losses.

Can we be surprised, really, that Obama and the socialist/democratic party will use the tried-and-true method of deamonizing ANY candidate who runs against him?
The left-leaning media is ready to go, as are the zealots like Wasserman-Shultz, the CBC, Sharpton, Pelosi, Wright, V Jones…..all of them.

Froma Harrop: The missing ‘humanity clause’ at Bain
During the Great Depression, my father toiled in a box factory. The workers were all flat broke, he recalled, and desperate for every nickel. But when overtime hours appeared, the men made sure they went to a guy with kids. The laborers were obeying the unwritten and unenforceable “humanity clause,” whereby one gives up some personal gain in deference to another’s screaming need.
My father later built a prosperous small business and became a reliable Republican (until the Bill Clinton impeachment). But he never saw working people as nobodies. Profits, while important, were not all….

This week, Sen. Jim DeMint offered some advice to the Republican Party: “The debate in the Republican Party needs to be between libertarians and conservatives. … There’s no longer room for moderates and liberals because we don’t have any money to spend, so I don’t want to be debating with anyone who wants to grow government.”

Rick Santorum has said: “I fight very strongly against libertarian influence within the Republican Party and the conservative movement.” Sen. DeMint says: “I’d like to see a Republican Party that embraces a lot of the libertarian ideas.” Not surprisingly, Santorum has spent most of his political career promoting big government. Not surprisingly, DeMint has spent most of his political career fighting it.

I have not personally confirmed these stats but a freind of mine brought this to my attention:

The percentage of each past president’s cabinet who had worked in the private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet.
You know what the private business sector is a real-life business, not a government job.
      Here are the percentages.
      T. Roosevelt……………….. 38%

      Harding……………………… 49%

      GH Bush……………………. 51%
      Clinton …………………….. 39%
      GW Bush…………………… 55%
      Obama…………………8%
This helps to explain the incompetence of this administration:
only 8% of them have ever worked in private business!
That’s right! Only eight percent—the least, by far, of the
last 19 presidents! And these people are trying to tell

“I have many friends -and I’m not exaggerating – who work for companies owned by Bain.”

Work for? I thought Bain just fires everybody.

Bain is not in business to make sure everyone in the company keeps their job. The idea is to fix the company’s finances so that it can actually be profitable and grow.

Is Bain driven by the good feeling they get from creating jobs? No, they are driven by profit, and the jobs are a side effect. That is the essence of free enterprise.

“Not to mention, Romney‘s healthcare plan was the model for Obama’s. So good luck with that.”

That line comes straight from the Obama camp, and is clearly disingenuous. Romney’s plan was 70 pages long, Obama’s was over 2,000, and they really have little in common. You might as well say that the story of Jonah was the model for Moby Dick because they’re both about a big fish.

Maybe “inspiration” or “test case” would be more suitable. But really, do you deny the similarities? Surely you don’t. And OF COURSE a national plan has more details and required information, and yes…pages…than a plan for a single state. It’s pretty straight-forward.

I’ll agree iwth you on one point. You are absolutely right that Bain is in the business of profit…not creating jobs. And yes jobs are in fact a byproduct. It’ just that the byproduct is lack of jobs. They make profits by cutting jobs. Job creation my azz. It‘s going to be hard to convince me otherwise of something I’ve seen with my own eyes.

So when you say you saved Government Motors…lets peel the onion back as see what you really did. Bain Captial saved more companies and jobs than the companies that they actually closed.

Like Government Motors, you “saved jobs” by eliminatig waste…seems like you used Bain Captial’s business model..however on you lined the pockets of unions and campaign contributors instead of investors who risked their own money..you only risked the taxpayer’s monery!

@DETROIT PAPERBOY So Obama admin used Bain as a consultant and used same approach…and yet Obama is a Marxist. You can’t have it both ways. People say Obama is a Marxist are just foolish and not worthy of debate of discussion. People who actually ARE Marxist and socialist don‘t’ think he is.It’s such a stupid and indefensible point of view blathered all over this place. It makes you people look crazy, ill informed, or just plain stupid and ignorant of actual political viewpoints. Or racist. I don’t know what…but as much as I disagreed with Bush I never thought he was a Nazi, OR a communist, or a traitor, etc….and I praised his good deeds (which were few in my opinion and heavily outwieghed by bad decisions and gross mismanagement). Bush was no conservative that’s for sure, but he was still the President and I treated him as such in conversation. You sound bitter. When will you people learn some respect. Your flag wrapping and constitution yapping is so fake and lacks real ideology.

No one has exploited the Middle class more than the Democratic Party. When the ‘Great Society” was proclaimed in 1968—who do you think had their paychecks rifled to suport the government designated professional whiners and victims–the middle class. It’s no acident that women were forced out of the home in droves to supplement dwindling paychecks from which significanrt dollars were stolen by the increasingly Communist government to support the “ chosen people” and deny opportunities to the working class based on race or income. I still don’t see any racially directed programs aimed at poor white kids stuck in the cities–they are largely invisible What’s happening in this country is the direct result of the Democratic party and its pandering amd catering to minorities to buy votes. Democrats know nothing and spout insanity to justify their perverted programs which destroy this country, not build it up.

I’m a registered Republican. We need to vote Obama out of office, Romney is chosen one by the media for reasons that may be of interest to you. (see links) Briefly, Bain Capital purchased ClearChannel Communications in 2006. ClearChannel syndicates Premier and Iheart Radio. These stations are the nationwide conservative talk shows of Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck. Bain/Romney purchased conservative talk radio, and our so called conservative talk show heroes are towing Clearchannel’s political agenda. The second webpage lists all the Campaign contributions by Bain since 2006. Romney and Obama top the list with the rest (mostly) Democrat and Progressives.
This information needs to be brought up and we are heading to the same situation as 2008, were
      the Progressive/socialist can not lose.

What is it that liberals find so attractive about Ron Paul? Some liberals are so enamored with Paul’s foreign policy, namely, his opposition to practically any form of overseas military engagement that they are willing to overlook all of Paul’s other lunacies. In certain parts of the left-wing imagination, America’s aggressive imperial overreach is so acute that it must be stopped at all costs. Left-wing blogger Philip Weiss has even suggested that liberals think of supporting Paul as an ugly, but necessary, progressive compromise, likening it to nothing less than “seculars joining with the Muslim Brothers to get rid of Mubarak. You needed a broad coalition to push Hosni out.”

Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example.

She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom.

The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force….

She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit….

[America's] glory is not dominion, but liberty. Her march is the march of the mind. She has a spear and a shield: but the motto upon her shield is, Freedom, Independence, Peace.

*** Paul Volker, former J. Rothschild, Wolfensohn & Co investment banker, Economics Czar
*** Richard Holbrook (now deceased); AIG Board Member, Credit First Suisse Bank
*** Kenneth Feinberg; not an investment banker but instead a lawyer who makes rules for investment bankers
And honorable mentions Science Czar *** John Holdren and Information Czar *** Cass Sunstein. We could call these guys perhaps ‘indirect labor’.

Impeach, a progressive on the left is only a hair different than a progressive on the right. Look at who funds him, the same that funds Obama. You guys are just getting suckered again like you always have in the past. With all that you should have learned over the last three years, you have not learned anything.

We have lost part of our 4th and th amendment rights with The Patriot Act and NDAA, if we lose our 2nd amendment we are toast. Gun Owners of America’s report card on 2nd amendment:

Due to his failure to lead, it is Obama who has created an economic atmosphere that led to the exploitation of the middle class. One cannot continue “passing the buck.”

He blames President Bush….now he blames Romney….I wonder who is next.

To Pres. Obama ….You knew what you were getting into, all the economic problems you inherited from the previous administration, yet you assured the American people that you can fix things….hope….fundamental change…a timetable for such things to accomplish.

We The People were assured that we finally had our SUPERMAN. Then, we got disappointed.

The national debt is out of control on Obama’s watch.

The next president… will inherit a worst nightmare than Obama. We need to rally in UNITY behind ROMNEY, the next president of the United States.

Newt gives the talking points and Obama follows. What a great leader you would be Newt. You would do a great job rounding up judges, making business fire only the people the Government gives permission to fire and the Whit\e House could have iy‘s first Tiffany’s account too! No thanks!

That is rich, he is talking about Mitt when he has done more harm to the middle class than FDR.

Hold up. He did get the Nobel Peace Prize for something, didn’t he? All that brilliance that began in Germany and ended in a fake Greece surely must have told us how awesome he was and still is.
Truth is anyone we choose and take our chances with comes up roses next to what we know.

BO, your 15 minutes are up. Not going to work this time around. But not to worry, you and MO have enough money now that you don’t have to worry about the rest of us. Live your one percent life style and let the rest of us recover what we have lost.

Obama is a dunce, but Chris Christie didn’t do Romney any favors with his Oprah interview either. Romney needs to learn to fight for himself. It appears the media is trying to hold him up like they did for Obama but it will never work. Romney’s shoulders may not be as broad as he thinks. I beleive Perry, Santorum, and Gingrich can stand up to the left better than Romney. Though they may be a little harsh they do come out swinging. Romney’s last ad about them being an embarrassment is ridiculous. I am not crazy about having another president that is embarrassed bc Americans speak their minds. He sure had no problem stretching the truth about Gingrich. I also like Bachmann but she sometimes got a little out of hand trying to explain her differences between other candidates. I do think she explained what she stood for better than Romney though. I am not sure what Romney is for, but I do know who is for him..most all of the media and Washington. I wish they would like us choose who we want for president.

@ P, It is going to be a two way between Romney and Paul. The others are not getting on the ballot in states and districts. Hard to get the delegates needed if you’re not on the ballots. Everyone is going to have to face the fact that we either get on board with a Constitutionalist, or go with moneybags Romney with his support from Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse Group, Morgan Stanley, HIG Capital, Barclays, Kirkland & Ellis, Bank of America, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, EMC Corp, JPMorgan Chase.

PricewaterhouseCoopers is a global professional services firm headquartered in London, United Kingdom.

. Credit Suisse employees stripped the identities of Iranian banks enabling funds to be transferred to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and the Aerospace Industries Organization, entities respectively involved in the production of nuclear weapons and long range missiles!!

A vote for Romney is a vote for the NWO.

WEST COAST PATRIOT, this is getting really interesting. It’s between Romney and Paul, as you say and that’ll become clearer in the coming weeks. It’ll be interesting to see what happens then. I reckon the tea partiers, conservatives and libertarians will get behind Paul and the neo-cons and country clubbers will back Romney. Who will come out on top?
