Firefighters responds to a blaze at Tyler Perry Studios in southwest Atlanta, Tuesday night, May 1, 2012. Atlanta fire officials say they have put out the 4-alarm blaze at the studio that damaged a building at the complex. Atlanta Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jolyon Bundrige says the fire happened before 9 p.m. Tuesday and there were no reports of injuries. (AP Photo/Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Curtis Compton)
ATLANTA (The Blaze/AP) — The structure of a large building at faith filmmaker Tyler Perry’s Atlanta studio is fine after part of it caught fire, sending flames into the night sky, authorities said.
There were no reports of injuries from the blaze that began shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday and burned through the building’s exterior surface, Atlanta Fire Capt. Jolyon Bundrige said.
“It was all in flames,” Dorothy Ware, who lives in a high-rise apartment next door to the studio complex, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The below video report provides more information on the fire:
Flames shot as high as nearby trees, which are about as high as a six-story building, Ware said.
“The building started popping,” Ware said. “Whatever the fire was hitting, was blowing up. There were plenty of sparks coming over here where we are.”
More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, and they were able to limit the damage because the building is broken up into sections, Bundrige told Atlanta station WSB-TV.

The cause of the four-alarm blaze and the amount of damage to the complex was not immediately known.
Perry was at the complex Tuesday night and spoke with Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran, Bundrige said. A spokesman for Perry – whose films include “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,“ ”Why Did I Get Married?“ and ”Daddy’s Little Girls” – didn’t immediately comment Tuesday evening.
The studio complex includes a 200,000-square-foot studio, five sound stages and a 400-seat theater in southwest Atlanta, according to its website.
In March, pop star Cee Lo performed for donors at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama at the studios.

Posted on May 2, 2012 at 1:38pmTime will tell what caused the fire. Until we know the facts lets keep the inuendoes out of the post. Otherwise, you are no better than Al Sharplon and Jesse Jackson.
I don‘t care for this man’s politics and I have seen some of the movies he has produced. I can‘t say I’ve laughed at them, but he has sent some good messages that I agree with.
I am sorry this happened to him.

Posted on May 2, 2012 at 11:46amI do not agree with this man’s politics. I do admire his outreach to the black community. His message is very well targeted. Another man of this community that also speaks of personal responsibility is Bill Cosby.
I would much rather see and hear from the likes of the above two gentlemen, rather than al sharpton, farakan, and what is that other punks name… oh yeah jesse jaaaacksuuuuun.
Surely Mr Perry is fully insured as a responsible member of the community at large.

Posted on May 2, 2012 at 3:59pmDoes he preach that? I hadn’t heard that; however, I lost all respect for him a month or so ago when he made a left turn from a right lane, then stated he was only pulled over because he’s black. Oh, yeah: his windows were heavily tinted, so there was no way of knowing his race. That doesn’t sound like he was taking responsibility.

One of the Atlanta Falcons.
That doesn’t square with Scripture….
At least not in a good way.

Posted on May 2, 2012 at 10:22amShame. I don’t watch any of his films because I think they are stupid and immature. Maybe he can get cee lo or that guy barack to hold a fundraiser for him so he can get back on his feet. OR…maybe they would be willing to spread THEIR wealth around to help out a bruthah.

Posted on May 2, 2012 at 11:44amMy question too!! I don’t know what is happening to the Blaze, but there have been more NON-news stories lately. I think it has to do with Beck not actively being involved. Now, I just scan the headlines and if something looks interesting, I will read it. Mostly though, I don’t. Used to be good stuff… Not so much anymore.

Posted on May 2, 2012 at 11:02amI like the Madea movies, but he’s a sufferer of black power. Black people who are non-critical thinkers fall in line like sheep because their skin color matches that of the Kenyan. It’s too bad, Obama doesn’t give a damn about black people or anyone other than people who can give him what he wants. I hope arson wasn‘t involved because then it will be Bush’s fault or a Tea Party member who will be blamed.
