‘It Went Way Up’: Wind-Blown Bounce House Injures 13 Kids

CNN:

A heavy gust of wind blew away inflatable bounce houses with children inside at a New York soccer event, leaving 13 people injured, authorities said late Saturday.

The Oceanside United Soccer Club in Long Island was hosting a tournament Saturday afternoon when three bounce houses started floating away, said Eric Evensen, a Nassau County police officer.

It Went Way Up: Wind Blown Bounce House Injures 13 Kids

“As children were inside, a heavy gust of wind blew across the field, raising them off the ground and sending them airborne,” he said. “Once they hit the ground, they began rolling and struck several people on the ground.”

NY Post:

Roz Ferrara, who lives across the street, saw the wind pick up one of the houses.

“All of a sudden, it was flying,” she said. “It went way up . . . There were people in it.”

She said it “kicked up in the air, hit a few people and then rolled into the other” bounce house.

“You don’t like to see kids scared like that,” she added. “That’s why this thing was so horrifying.”

Let’s get Regulatory Czar Elizabeth Warren working on this right away. We obviously can’t have children flying around the skies without the appropriate licenses. Or, the operators of these air-filled bags with huge sail areas could stake them down properly to avoid this happening any more. It’s happened more than once recently.

I live in a windy area. Here, the bounce houses at events are ALWAYS secured, either to the ground with stakes or to a trailer or other vehicle if on pavement. It is absolutely irresponsible to have these things set up, but not secured to the ground. Use some common sense, people!!

This is what too many rules creates. Most Parks and Rec Depts ban the use of ground stakes for securing tents or other structures in city parks. They are afraid of damage to sprinkler systems, buried wiring etc. In Reno they make us bring in barrels and fill them with water to create tie down points. If they charged a deposit for damages refunded if none occur it would be much simpler but follow the money, rental companies make a killing on the install of tie points.

Your probably right .At the very least a government entity will be installed to oversee the particulars of the manufacture, maintaining, operation and of course which union will be designated to do this .The Gov.Bouncy House oversight committee will commission the Gov. Bouncy House Official Rules and Regulations Book 12.001.0001 which will be approx. 1349 pages updated with amendments annually. To cover such things as inflation max. and min. ,color and texture of material and how many children of what ages ,genders and races in what numbers can be inside before children of the predominate race are allowed . So some bussing may be involved .Otherwise it will have to be shut down .Don’t worry the 27 union employees (chapter 7 category 7 subsection “LL”)required to operate the Bouncy House will still be paid a minimum of 95% of their pay even if they didn‘t have to show up because the Bouncy House didn’t meet the number of minority children laid out in (chapter 1 category 5 subsection ‘B’).of the GBHORR Book. The cost of renting and setting up a Bouncy House may “Necessarily Skyrocket” but could be subsidized by the tax payers in cases of “Social Justice”needs, wealth will be redistributed and determined by the newly appointed Bouncy House Czar. Last by not least all children before entering Bouncy House must swear allegiance to Barrack H. Obama and sing the“ Obama is our dear beloved leader song ” which will be playing over loud speakers in the Bouncy House (ch.12 cat

It was very windy up here the last few days. Parents should check out conditions and protect their children from possibly dangerous situations.

Actually, I happen to know first hand that these bounce amusements are one of the most dangerous amusements, frequently causing injuries to children. Inexperienced young operators often allow too many children in at one time, or allow children of different sizes to occupy it at the same time. The result is many head injuries, fractured limbs, etc. Say what you will about law suits, most of these are perfectly warranted.

God above, being injured is bad enough, glad though none were hurt worse; that thing should have been secured better to the ground or something. Does anyone know just how much wind it does take to do that, if it is secured down according to guidelines – if there are any for that to be done?

It takes serious winds to do that to a bounce house if it’s properly anchored. They didn’t have theirs anchored at all, they were just set on the ground waiting to blow around.

Clearly a menace to our very society and existence (sarcasm for those of you a little slow this fine Sabbath).
