Italian Mayor Releases Prohibition on…Dying?

In terms of history and beauty, very few countries can compare with Italy.

But that doesn’t mean it’s immune to the modern-day struggles of the rest of Europe.  A bad economy combined with socialist programs has left the country broke and desperate.

The latest in the plight of the Italians?  In one town, Falciano del Massico, the mayor has been forced to issue a tongue-in-cheek prohibition on dying, since his town and another are feuding over cemetery land.  The “ban” has been in effect since the start of the month.

“The ordinance has brought happiness,” Mayor Giulio Cesare Fava said Tuesday, “Unfortunately, two elderly citizens disobeyed.”

Falciano del Massico is located 30 miles outside of Naples, and has a population of 3,700 people.

Italy is famous for another land feud, which left the citizens of Naples knee deep in trash for years.  At the time, no one could agree on how to dispose of the trash (and the mafia‘s influence in the industry didn’t make it any easier).

Check out this EuroNews “No Comment” clip of Naples’ dilemma:

Seeing the video of the Army cleaning up that much trash in the streets made me flash back to Jr High math teacher‘s stories back in the mid ’60s. He landed in Italy back in ‘44 and was in the fighting all the way up through the Italian boot. He told us how they could tell they were approaching the next town or city. They could smell it long before they got to it. I guess that not much has changed.

I propose a prohibition on: Breaking the Law. ‘Cause, of course, that’s totally gonna work. Derp.

People sure are filthy animals. I can tell a man hasn’t been around for a couple hundred years. I’m sure God can figure out how to get rid of it all when most people are gone.

Oh I probably left you confused – that means you are just people, but not “Mankind.”

Men don’t care about their environment in the abstract, and they put it out by the curb just to forget about it. But sooner or later you’ll be living in it. Sooner or later millions of tons of garbage from Japan is going to wash up on the west coast of America. Is that Carma or what?

Then they take the entire month of August off… although when I was there they didn’t take three whole hours, some just shut down for an hour or two.

I remember once my car broke down in August and I needed to have it towed to the repair shop. I had to wait until September to get it moved…

No they could just keep you clinically alive while they transport your body to the ‘other town. Hope it doesn’t stack up like the trash wars!

I’m waiting for a really “Green” legislature to repeal the laws of thermodynamics so that we can have 1000 mpg limos.
