Italian Relatives Tell Magazine That Santorum‘s Grandfather and Uncles Were ’Red Communists’

Italian Magazine Reports That Rick Santorums Cousins Are Communists

Rick Santorum's long lost Italian cousins (oggi magazine)

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santourm appears to have found a niche for himself among blue-collar social conservatives representative of his western Pennsylvania upbringing. But according to the Italian magazine Oggithe former senator may not be too popular in the Italian town of his forefathers.

The Daily Beast reports that 83-year-old matriarch Maria Malacarne tells the Italian Magazine Oggi that her late husband’s cousin Rick was a delight when he visited the family in the tiny northern Italian town of Riva del Garda during his law internship in Florence in 1985, and when he came back in 1986 and 1989. That said, Maria doesn’t understand how Santorum diverged so much from his grandfather Pietro and uncles who were “‘red communists’ to the core.”

Oggi journalist Giuseppe Fumagalli likens the Italian Santorum clan to famous fictional Italian communists when compared to their cousin Rick, as “on the other side of the ocean, it’s like his family here doesn’t exist. Instead he draws crowds as the head of the ultraconservative faction of the Republican party, against divorce, gay marriage, abortion, and immigration.”

In addition to hyperbolizing Santorum’s conservative philosophy, the Oggi piece goes on to quote an angry cousin who prefers to remain unnamed when claiming that he remembers a time when high-ranking Communist Party members frequented the Santorum household in the ultraliberal town of Riva del Garda.  “There are Santorums who would roll over in their graves to hear [Rick’s] rhetoric,” the cousin said.

The Daily Beast concludes that at the end of the day “the family seems content to turn a blind eye to their American cousin’s political persuasion,” and one cousin Bruno expects that, after this lovely article, “When he wins, he will send the American presidential airplane and take all the Santorums to the White House.”

We’ll have to look forward to that possible family reunion.

Italian Magazine Reports That Rick Santorums Cousins Are Communists

While the opinions of Santorum’s living Italian relatives may be somewhat irksome for his campaign, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette makes the important note that Santorum’s grandfather, who the candidate often acknowledges on the campaign trail, was communist in 1925 Italy when the alternative was Benito Mussolini’s National Fascist Party.

Rick’s father Aldo Santorum passed away in January 2011, but was active in his son’s early congressional career and successful run for U.S. Senate. Aldo served in the South Pacific during WWII and became a clinical psychologist thanks to the GI Bill, going on to work for the Veterans Administration.

That means “The Apple Doesn’t Fall From The Tree”

As you’ll see from my ad, Rick Santorum is anything but a conservative. Just consider his record, which includes:

*** Voting to RAISE the debt ceiling five times

*** Voting to DOUBLE the federal Department of Education

*** Voting with liberals like Ted Kennedy on multiple occasions in support of Big Labor’s radical agenda

***Urging more federal involvement in housing with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

*** Voting to create a brand new, unfunded entitlement, Medicare Part D, the largest expansion of entitlement spending since President Lyndon Johnson – creating $16 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities

*** Endorsing liberal Big Government RINOs like Arlen Specter over conservatives. Of course, Specter later became a Democrat and worked hand-in-glove with President Obama to pass his radical agenda

*** Voting for Sarbanes-Oxley, which imposed dramatic new job-killing accounting regulations on businesses

      *** Voting for gun control

*** Voting to give Social Security benefits to illegal aliens, while voting against an additional 1,000 border patrol agents

*** Voting to give $25 million in foreign aid to North Korea

*** Voting to send hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood – the nation’s largest provider of abortion – and hand out hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid to enemies of Israel.

At one time in iIaly it was a mark of protest to be a Com munist, much like it was in France during the Revolution to be one of the Bourgeoisie. The period the whole of the 19th century and well into the 20th was a period of upheaval and consolidation in Italy and Germany—the resulting power vaccuum lead to Hit ler and Mussoli ni.Of course Com munism was looked at as a source of hope. it was the only thng that even considered the powerless and politically willing to believe. in it’s faulty precepts as opposed to anythng else they may have known.

This might explain why the man is a “R” and a conservative. He has first hand knowledge of the evils of commmmy ism. My grandfather came over from Italy before WWII. He was a respected Fascist there. Upon arriving in the USA and becoming a citizen, he became a “R”. Fact was he hated Fascism but was forced into it because of the times and the way things were in Italy back then. My grandfather was a true American and gave the life of one of his sons fighting Fascism and Italy in WWII. Go figure. I am an Independent / Conservative.

Well of course. What do you expect in the land and time of Mussolini.
Brainwashing was imposed from the top and a way of life.
But some rose above it, as Santorum’s relatives who fled to America.

On the other hand, look at the parents and grandparents,
mentors and friends of those now in the White House.
They have been surrounded by freedoms of a Representative Republic,

and yet they STILL chose ideologies that are socialist, communist,
and even Marxist….or simply quietly Progressive.

Meanwhile, the Santorum family chose the liberties endowed by our Creator
and inscribed by our Founding Fathers in our Declaration of Independence,
Bill of Rights, and U.S. Constitution.

In so many ways, the history of the Santorums is like that of most Americans,

and why We The People care about “Saving Freedom” as written by Senator Jim DeMint,
    and Saving America.

I was actually 2 years ahead of him — when I reached 13… though I was never enthralled by the ideology, after then I was a sworn anti-commie. 13 years later I decided I have to get out of there. Took me 6 years to get outside the iron curtain.

And grandpa left Italy so he could be free, not a communist or a marxist, so the departure has nothing to do with Rick Santorum. There are many parallels that could be made just like this that don’t make sense, like such a rich family and the son lives in a trailor park, or all the clan has lots of aunts and uncles except for the one boy with a “friend”, or everyone is a butcher, then up came the vegetarian. In short, one has nothing to do with another, whereas BHO was taught to be a Marxist and to hate the USA and Capitalism, so he does things that we say, man, that is such a stupid thing to do, he doesn’t know what he is donig, over his head, ignores the wrong things, but you know what? He knows exactly what he is doing and we have to get him out.

That is because the only thing Ron Paul has in common with the right is economics along with a couple of domestic issues. The rest of his platform is solidly in the Democratic camp and the wordspeak from types like JUSTANGRY and most other Paul groupies reflect that.

I remember when Bush was running against John Kerry. You couldn’t tell the difference between the Libertarians and the left when they were bashing Bush. Neocons, Military Industrial Complex, anti-war and anti-Military descriptions leveled at Republicans.

JUSTANGRY. You were in the service? Didn’t know that, but then again, I’ve only been on here this weekend, the previous weekend, and one day about a month ago I guess. Can‘t keep track of Ron Paul’s LARGE military contingent (sarcastically written). I did see where PROGRESSIVESLAYER stated where he is was an Air Force ‘man of leisure’ like Ron Paul, but not Retired like PS states he is and recieving that sweet government check like me. Are you recieving a sweet government check like me and PS?

For god’s sake man. “Man of leisure”? Are you serious? Hey if you‘re super vet why doesn’t the oath you took mean anything to you?

“I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic…”

I believe there are domestic enemies in office destroying our constitution who need fired, but you’re supporting them. Or do you think the Patriot Act, NDAA, etc. are constitutional? In other words, snap to grunt and do your damn duty! You‘re on here enough that you can’t claim ignorance. I’m willing to listen you if want to defend the constitutionality of these laws, but you (or anyone else for that matter) won’t.

I forgot to mention that Newt was a draft dogging chicken hawk.

Lets compare Santorum’s Career to Paul’s

Santorum got a B.A. in political science from Pennsylvania State University, a
M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a Law degree from the Dickinson School of Law then
began practicing in Pittsburgh at the law firm Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, now known as K&L Gates. Representing the World Wrestling Federation while with K&L, Santorum argued that professional wrestling should be exempt from federal anabolic steroid regulations because it was not an actual sport, rather, entertainment.
At age 32 elected to the House of Representatives U.S. Senate (1995-2007) after his defeat in the Senate he became a Lobbyist.

Ron Paul, Doctor of Medicine getting his degree from Duke University’s School of Medicine, then doing his medical internship at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, after that he served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force and then
in the United States Air National Guard. After his service he became a
obstetrics and gynecology, and then began his own private practice delivering over 4000 babies. In between this he has served as a Congress for the Texas’s 14th congressional district.

Lawyer / Career Politician / Lobbyist
      VS.
      Medical Doctor / Veteran / OB/GYN, OBG/ small business owner / Congressman

Here is the thing, Santorum is not a communist; if his relatives are that is their problem, not the problem of the USA. He gets what freedom is about, unlike Newt. Now watch Obama and Newt use this allegation against Santorum.

Um, he knows what freedom is about? Please explain his position on the NDAA, Enemy Expatriation Act, his vote in favor of the Patriot Act, and how that’s consistent with freedom. Meh, nevermind the the typical response to these questions is to ignore.

For your information: ” The Italian Communist Party (PCI) was outlawed during the Fascist regime, the party played a major part in the Italian resistance movement.”

How does anyone even know if these stories are true? Firstly,Italian families do not easily betray their own blood relatives, and secondly, there is a big difference between the Fascist regime and the Communist Party.

Non-story! How many of us even know the politics of our relatives in the old country – or care. I don’t, and they certainly wouldn’t influence me if they did. I can‘t recall Obama’s relative being interviewed about the politics of his other relatives, can you?
