After a year of surprises and let-downs, victories and “shellackings,” who emerged as 2010′s “most admired” men and women?
According to Gallup, President Barack Obama remains the country’s “most admired” man, with 22 percent of Americans admiring him above all others. Obama took over the No. 1 spot in 2008, shortly after being elected as the 44th President:
In an interesting tie for 8th place are conservative radio and television host Glenn Beck and former Democratic President Jimmy Carter:
On the female side of things, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took the top spot, followed closely by No. 2., former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin:

Last week I wanted you to explain, in detail, the weather that is happening now. Too many variables can affect weather/climate. For example, the Maunder Minimum:
“We have several hundred years of observational data on sunspots, and can track them further back in time by following changes in two radioactive isotopes of carbon and beryllium (more on that later). These records make two things clear: the Earth’s climate responds to changes in solar output (no surprise, really), and that the solar output can change independently of the 11-year solar cycle.
These larger-scale changes are most obvious in the case of the Maunder Minimum, a period that ran roughly between 1645 and 1715. Observations of this period suggest that the solar cycle essentially stopped during this time, as very few sunspots were recorded during the entire period. Temperatures responded accordingly; current reconstructions indicate that the global mean temperature dropped by 0.4C. That may not sound like much, but recent climate reconstructions indicate the effect was more pronounced in the Northern Hemisphere, and felt especially keenly in winter. The net result is that Europeans recorded this period as the Little Ice Age.
For reasons that aren’t clear, the solar cycle returned at the end of this period, and temperatures rose accordingly. They rose again slightly at the start of the 20th century—the IPCC estimates that up to 30 percent of last century’s warming can be accounted for by this change—before stabilizing at mid-century. The dramatic rise in temperatures in the latter half of the century has largely been ascribed to the rising levels of greenhouse gasses.”

By the way, you did not answer my question last week about how variables affect weather/climate. You were dismissive to those who did not “know the difference” between the two. One variable is sunspot activity which was responsible for The Little Ice Age:
“We have several hundred years of observational data on sunspots, and can track them further back in time by following changes in two radioactive isotopes of carbon and beryllium (more on that later). These records make two things clear: the Earth’s climate responds to changes in solar output (no surprise, really), and that the solar output can change independently of the 11-year solar cycle.

And IMO as a former President he should honor precedent and not critique any current President. But, he is a big humanatarian and does a lot around the world for the less fortunate. Let us not be the same as the other side and blindly hate and defame. Let’s strive to retain our ability to see the world and the people in it for what they are in total, not just what some narrow agenda driven talking points tell us we should see.

Well lets just take one of Beck’s recent statements backed up by “facts”. In promoting his Christmas event in Wilmington he said that “they won’t take any money from the state or the feds”, unfortunately the facts say otherwise. The town and county has recieved more than $10 million in stimulus funds, having asked for more than $60 million, and enrollment in aid programs such as food stamps, medicaid, welfare, and unemployment have all gone up drastically. While that in no way reflects poorly on the people of Wilmington it does do so on Becks relationship with facts.
In regards to his urging you to do your own research, its basically pointless when he’s pointing you to the same dubious sources that he uses eg Jonah Goldberg, David Barton. As far as “delusional” goes, I think it would be hard to find a better case study for delusions of grandeur, messianic complex, persecution complex, paranoia, and borderline personality disorder, either that or he’s just full of it and making millions of you. But who knows I’m just a guy in my doom bunker wearing a tin foil hat and taking inventory of my cans of Vienna Sausages and Fruit Cocktail hoping that THEY dont find me.

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 10:33pmAn analogy of trolls.
It’s very interesting the trolls that come around here on the Blaze where they know they are in the minority. Trolls insist that the facts are not really facts at all. They insist the trolls are so much smarter than you or I. That is the troll’s belief and their battle cry.
I find it interesting that they will not engage in an actual debate because, at least in the context of this site, the facts never support the troll’s arguments. And just like that, the trolls want to slander and redirect. Sad, sad creature’s trolls are.
What is really bothering the troll is the reality that average American citizens are actually awakening, educating themselves, and are studying the facts. This infuriates the troll. You see, they employ large words rarely used in the real world to posture and insist that the average American is ignorant and uninformed. Of course, the troll knows this is a false premise but fear that the utopia they crave is in jeopardy. Here is the news….it is.
Trolls would like the average American citizen to go postal and start what they themselves want in the Cloward-Piven strategy of a violent overthrow of the system they have been spending the last 100 years trying to overload. But we, the average American are now wise to the plan. We have begun to reverse this plan, nonviolent, at the ballot box as the Constitution directs. Red faced the troll may be, poking, prodding, trying to instigate the desired response. Nothing but failure for the troll a civilization awakened.
Asleep for the length of the century the average American may have been. Yes, for many of us we have been unaware of the troll’s true motive, the troll’s true purpose, to destroy America, because freedom and liberty to a troll only should be reserved for the chosen and not for the masses. The trolls believe they are the keepers of the knowledge of who is worthy to be free and who should enjoy liberty. This is the nature of the troll. The troll wants to dominate and regulate for selfish, vain, and evil purpose. The troll believes to be the chosen, to leach and redistribute all liberty taken from the defined unworthy. To rule over the masses the troll craves.
Unfortunately we have seen these trolls throughout history, Marx, Mussolini, Mau, all the great socialistic, dictatorial, and controlling trolls, we have seen them. The world has experienced these trolls, and history show the same end for them, defeat and that is what awaits the trolls of ours. The average American citizen has now awakened to recognize the troll, so I suspect that in this the history of the troll will be again repeated and they will once again be subjected to the dust bin of history.
Sorry troll, freedom and liberty are for Americans willing to own up to personal responsibility and self subsistence. Not by direction of a troll!

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 12:38amSpeaking of stupid and unprofessional, this comment by Gallup wins first prize:
“One reason Michelle Obama may not garner higher mentions is that many Democrats, who might otherwise name a Democratic first lady, instead name Hillary Clinton. However, Obama also trails Oprah Winfrey in mentions among Democrats.”
What’s your point, Gallup? That the Demorats did not vote for his Belle because they prefer a former first lady scorned to the present scornful first lady? We get it, lamebrains. And then you give us stupider: “That rationalization won’t work, since Oprah beat Moochelle, and she ain’t no first lady.” Spare us your think-alouds, Gallup. They reek of Obamarats’ paranoia of Hillary Clinton.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 4:57amWHAT A CROCK!! I went back and checked the survey methods, and this poll is flawed. I First, the poll gives percentages for COMBINED FIRST AND SECOND CHOICES. Why ask respondents for TWO choices when there are no two factors that are being effectively combined? This method can skew results in more ways than one. For starters, if Obama was a respondent’s SECOND choice, it was still factored in as the “most admired man,“ not the ”second most admired man,” which was your real response. Furthermore, fewer people might have picked Obama as their first choice, but since the results are combined, more second than first choices still put Obama in first place. Also, it is possible that people picked Obama as their second choice because they could not think of a second famous person. Some people may unconsciously place far less importance on their second choice. Gallup, you suck.
Second, it seemed strange that the percentages were so low. Twenty-two percent is not an impressive percentage. So I looked at the non-responses: 7% said a RELATIVE, 27% said OTHER and 25% responded NONE/NO OPINION. Although the total poll percentage was greater than 100 percent because of the combined choices, non-responses equaled a WHOPPING 59%. Thus this poll could very well have had a non-response bias.
Finally, why isn’t the confidence level provided for the Internet Users sample? Again, what a worthless poll.
