WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney plans to announce next week that he’s running for the GOP presidential nomination.
Romney on Thursday said he formally would enter the race during an appearance Thursday at a New Hampshire farm that is a must-visit for would-be presidential candidates. Romney, who unsuccessfully sought the GOP nomination four years ago, has been lining up financial and political support ahead of the anticipated run, and his announcement was expected.
He already has formed a presidential exploratory committee and has been raising cash.
By announcing in New Hampshire, Romney is signaling that he will make the state a key piece of his political strategy. He came in second place to Sen. John McCain there in 2008.

I’m having a feeling that you may very well be correct. As much as I want to see Barack Hussein Obama out of office, I may have to resign myself to the severely gigantic possibility that “the Anointed One” may win another term in the White House, since the presidential candidates in the Republican party are so watered down. Or even worse, President Obama may decide to give the public-sector unions the go-ahead to incite riots nationwide. He’ll then view the riots as a “state of emergency” to suspend the 2012 election, and use the manufactured civil unrest to declare Martial Law!
Report Post »Sorry if I was a bit over the top on the last part, but the history of Germany, Ukraine, China, Russia, and other Communist countries have shown that dictators will exercise desperate measures to maintain their overreaching power should they feel that their about to lose it.

While it’s true that Ron Paul has been a staunch Constitutionalist during his entire time in the Senate (and I respect him for this), I don’t think many people will cast their vote for him. I don’t think most Americans would be tolerant of the idea of nationally legalizing marijuana (myself included), and, factoring in how old he is, I think he’s long passed his time to retire.
Report Post »cous1933
Posted on May 26, 2011 at 10:13pmMr. Oshawott,
Report Post »With all due respect, the “Ron Paul is not electable” and “he’s too old” stuff is nonsense. These are labels the demagogues push to get us to brush him off and let them steer us towards who they want to nominate. The tea party showed what a grass-roots effort can do. If your principles are for a constitutional republic, you should ALWAYS vote for your principles. And as far as the legalizing drugs thing goes, you should understand that Ron Paul simply says that drug laws are up to the states and not the federal government (which is constitutionally correct) but if you think about it (and NO I don’t use drugs) it is kind of hypocritical to think that alcohol and tobacco should be legal but drugs should be illegal. They are all the same thing – a substance that you introduce into the body to alter your mood – all are addictive – all are unhealthy. Using these substances is a personal morality issue and we should never legislate morality any more than we should legislate religion. Not to mention the billions of tax dollars wasted on the “war on drugs” that will never even make a small dent in drug use. Do you think it’s fiscally responsible to throw taxpayers hard-earned money away like that? Please read “The Revolution A Manifesto” by Ron Paul and I’ll bet you will want to vote for him.
cous1933
Posted on May 26, 2011 at 10:28pmNpbreakthrough,
Report Post »You say “to have any real power you have to be extremely cunning and cruel”. That may be true but you have to understand that Ron Paul, unlike other candidates, isn’t interested in “power”. He doesn’t want to run your life. He doesn’t want to rule the world. He doesn’t want to dictate. I say to have any real chance of restoring our republic you have to be extremely honest and moral. See the difference? That’s Ron Paul.
Mr. Oshawott
Posted on May 26, 2011 at 11:20pm@Cous1933
Okay, you’re right, it‘s the states’ right to decide whether certain drugs are or aren’t illegal. Nowhere on my previous post am I advocating the idea that the Federal Government should be allowed to make any drug illegal, and I side with you that the “War on Drugs” program is a real nightmare, having understood that many people have been unjustifiably arrested for petty mishaps, such as having drug residue hidden somewhere inside your vehicle. I’m so terribly sorry that the marijuana part of my statement had you spooked. Having learned this, if Ron Paul becomes presidential candidate, I’ll be voting for him (he does seem to be the only candidate that isn’t interested in lust for power. Speaking of that, I did read Judge Andrew Napolitano’s “Lies the Government Told You.”

I think if you enjoyed Judge Napolitanos book, you might like “Liberty Defined” – Ron Pauls latest book. When you really understand his position on all of the issues and add in the fact that his decency, honesty, and integrity are un-matched in politics today, you just might become a zealous supporter.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 8:46pmWhat’s funny about Romney chasing the Christian vote is that in 08 is that 95% of mormons in Utah voted for Romney in the primary. Mormons don’t vote for Christians if they have a chance to vote for a Mormon. They just don’t. They say they do, but the statistics from 08 show the truth. Then they turn around and complain that Christians won’t vote for a mormon. That’s funny. But they tend to have a persecution complex. The good news for Mormons this year is ultimately most everyone, including the Christians, will have to vote for Romney because there are no other good candidates. You know what? He’s the best candidate out there. A liberal republican perhaps, but a reasonable guy, not a tea party or glen beck candidate. I love seeing you guys have to compromise so much after all the socialism rants. You have to vote for a guy who would probably win if he ran as a conservative democrat. Two years of your craziness, and you get Romney. Its funny.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 9:21pmWell, if the poles from Utah show anything, it is that no one should vote for or against someone because of their reiligous beleifs and practices. A politicians views and integrity is what truly matters be they Jew, Christian, Catholic, Buhddist, Mormon or Muslim. Unless those beleifs go against the principles in the US Constitution then what does it matter? One of the tenants of the Mormon faith is that we believe in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law. That should do something to put your mind at ease.
Report Post »Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but please leave our beleifs and practices out you arguments. Especially when you don’t understand what we do or why we do it what we do. I don’t other faiths because of their “peculiar” practices, and neither should anyone else.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 9:28pmDUNSTINMS, you missed my point. Mormons do judge other people’s faiths. Mormons voted for Romney in the primary at a higher rate than blacks voted for Obama. Mormons will not vote for a Christian when they can vote for a Mormon. 08 proved that. I think its great that you don’t adhere to that, but most Mormons do, which is why its so funny that Mormons are upset that Christians are reluctant to vote for Romney. What goes around comes around. Maybe when Mormons can vote for another republican who isn’t mormon things will change. You can’t be intolerant and expect other people to be tolerant. The christian problem won’t go away.

Report Post »I don’t DUSTINMS missed your point at all. I believe there are three big reasons why so many Mormons voted for Romeny, one of which is what RICED stated that “he saved Utah’s soul with the Olympics in 2002.” And with the way the economy was heading at the time that was a big A+ for Romney showing the people that he could be the guy to turn things around for the country. The second is because of his business experience. I voted for Romney because I believed he was the best candidate for the job, not because he was Mormon; but because he’s a business man who is known for buying bankrupt companies and turning them into profitable ones. Our country is bankrupt, hopefully he can do the same thing he’s done for those businesses to our country. And third he is a man of strong morals and actually lives his religion. Which I think most members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints if not all will admire in any presidential candidate no matter what his/her faith may be; especially in a time where morals are being thrown out the window and evil is being redefined as good. Our church doesn’t endorse one candidate over another; in fact they never endorse anyone for political office. They just encourage us to be active in our communities, to vote for whom we believe would be the best for the job. If Romney wasn’t LDS I believe he would have had the same amount of LDS votes he got last election. Because we like many Christians follow the admission o

And he’s also, in my observation an belief, a pragmatist (not unlike Romney) and thus unlikely to draw the world into Armaggedon as President. Finally, he has the most practical experience (governing) by far as the former Speaker in a House where the House actually did stuff, and most will say he did a decent job (if you like conservative things), and he certainly didn’t destroy the country then.
That being said, I don’t think, and will certainly work my hardest to prevent, a Republican will win the general election. For all the rhetoric on the right about how “socialist” Obama is, and how horribly he has done, its been just that–rhetoric. Moreover, it’s rhetoric that largely falls on deaf ears–those on the right, the largest audience for the kind of show that produce this rhetoric, already dislike Obama and that wasn’t going to change. Besides, with Obama’s track record, you just know he will continue to infuriate Americans with his underhanded way of governing. All those executive orders and forcing unconstitutional regulations on us will be his Waterloo. Mark my words.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 9:39pmJust another RINO. Honestly every Republican in the race except Ron Paul has at least one policy that is not in line with traditional, constitutional conservatism, so technically they are all RINOs. If you are truly concerned for restoring our republican form of government Ron Paul is the only chance we have.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 10:06pmYou’re blinded by your extreme political beliefs! Romney is the only candidate who could generate, ultmately Republican votes. That‘s why President Obama has been praising Romney’s state healthcare plan for awhile now. Well, duh.
TPs, you’ll see him dodge every TP hot topic issue. He’ll campaign by addressing serious issues from a conservative viewpoint, but he’ll carefully avoid taking the extreme positions you guys would like him to take a stand on. Sorry guys, you don’t win a national election on a TP platform.
I’m not mocking I swear, but it’s funny to hear comments like “the left fears Palin, or Trump or Cain or Gingrich” or whomever (sorry for you Gingrich fans, he’s not really running, he’s is trying to sell books and make money. He’ll drop out early.) The left would LOVE to have any of the people popular here to get the nomination. Why? Those people can’t win.
Romney has a chance. He’s the single person the WH is worried about. Trust me on this one.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 10:59pmOkay Romney, you want my vote? Here’s what you gotta do:
1. Convince the public you will NEVER institute a public healthcare plan on a federal level, however, let the states do whatever they want because you do not want to tinker with state’s rights.
2. List in great detail your plans for getting the economy going again.
3. Make a list on your website of the basic conservative principles you vow to uphold, even if you have been tolerant of liberal views in the past.
4. Promise to work tirelessly to get control over the illegal immigration problem.
5. Promise to have a master plan to cut federal spending by 20% every year for the next 4 years.
We all know that moderates and independents determine the elections now. Republicans no longer have the majority. We know that people are more concerned with the financial collapse of this country in the next few years more than social issues that can be fought on the state level. Promise to focus on that. Announce early on who you would pick as a running mate, that will double the synergy you will need to pull ahead. Thank you for your service to the Republican party over the past 4 years when you could have stopped after the McCain/Huckleberry debacle. I respect your values and you walk the talk….good luck!
4.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 11:28pmRomney is a Rino..
What is the difference in a Rino and a Progressive? Nothing
Ron Paul is the only solution. You will be told “unelectable”, too old, and sounds odd.
Only unelectable if the Rino’s calling themselves Republican continue voting Progressive.
Too old if you think it‘s about someone’s outer appearance and the Constitution is out dated, like Progressives.
Sounds odd because he speaks Constitutional, not progressive like all the rest.
Republicans had better wake up soon or they too will be completely eaten by Progressives. I think the Republican party is there already myself….
Either your for the Constitution or you are against it….Can’t be both..
Ron Paul 2012!!!

This country can not risk that. We need to stand in line behind anyone beside this fool in the white house now. Even if you need to hold you Josie to vote.

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 2:16amWe are voting for Mitt because he is the only candidate that wholeheartedly supported the Ryan plan.
He will get our economy back on track.
Remember folks, “It’s the ECONOMY stupid”….
Romney just needs to learn how to get in Obama’s face like Christie or Palin would.
I would LOVE a Romney/West ticket!

i want Romney BAD – I think he is intelligent, and can basically get positive results a real leader…I agree to disagree with most of you…with one exception: i agree if Rubio joins his ticket, it’s a done deal.

Facts don’t matter around here with some commenters……..MA healthcare is not socialism, etc. like Obamacare. It is based and respects a FREE-MARKET based system. I
It is NO secret that the goal of the Dems/left is a SINGLE-PAYER system which IS governement control of health care.
Why don’t you sort our some facts on factcheck.org and Romney.
