It’s Official: MSNBC Hires Michael Steele for Political Analyst Gig

Remember Michael Steele? Not too long ago he was the (embattled) chairman of the Republican National Committee. Following some pretty embarrassing headlines and a failed attempt at a second chairmanship, things are looking up for Steele.  According to Mediaite:

Former Republican National Committee head Michael Steele has found himself a new role: MSNBC legal analyst, following a series of negotiations with the channel.

Its Official: MSNBC Hires Michael Steele for Political Analyst Gig

By many accounts, Steele’s accomplishments while at the RNC were a mixed bag. While the former chairman left the committee $20 million in debt, he also contributed to historic wins in the 2010 Congressional midterm elections. Despite these wins, Steele ended up losing (dropping out of) his re-election race due to unpopularity and his inability to secure the necessary votes.

In commentary about his newfound role, Steele says:

It’s an honor to contribute and engage in the dialogue on MSNBC. I look forward to engaging a diverse audience to share insights and analysis about the people, issues, and events shaping America’s future. I’m sure our discussions will be both informative and a bit spirited!

One wonders how Steele will position himself at MSNBC.  Recently, he defended presidential-hopeful Newt Gingrich’s criticisms of Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan (an opinion that was less than popular among conservatives).  TIME’s “Tuned In” blog had this to say:

Of course, it’s not like MSNBC has no other Republicans in its pundit ranks, the chief example being Morning Joe’s Joe Scarborough. But it will be interesting to see if Steele presents himself as a GOP analyst/loyalist, a la Fox’s Karl Rove, or moves from his partisan past a la the TV version of Scarborough.

Only time will tell whether Steele will be a staunch defender of conservative values or a more watered down version of his former self.  Either way, his new position is certainly a positive development in what has become a professional roller-coaster of sorts.

I can’t believe “diverse audience” came out of his mouth. Such a shame. Won’t help the ratings. They‘ll lose some of the far left because he’s GOP (in name only, but that won’t matter) AND they’ll lose some of their racists.

Good for Steele .. Now he’ll have the opportunity to personally demonstrate his convictions and courage in the den of the lions. He’ll either mature in his views/understanding or be deceived and corrupted. It will be a good test and oner that is perhaps watching if he demonstrates the capacity to express conservative views effectively. If not, it’ll just be more blah, blah, blah and the left will lap it up.

You think that we‘re supportive of Allen West because he’s black? You are KIDDING, aren’t you? Maybe these quotes will help:

“This past Saturday was touted by some fella as being the day the world would end. The day was actually Armed Forces Day and we should have celebrated the men and women who stand upon freedom’s ramparts in order to secure our liberty each and every day.” ~ Allen West

“I believe President Barack Obama is completely incorrect when it comes to his Middle East foreign policy. I was hoping that the President would clarify the statement at his AIPAC speech. However, the President did not rectify the unconscionable policy faux pas statement on “pre-1967 borders” to resolve the Middle East peace process. He did not seek an honorable way to publicly apologize; in turn I have come to one concluding assessment: America has a President who lacks moral courage and integrity when it comes to America’s long standing relationship with Israel.”

Here‘s the statement made by Allen West after Obama’s speech last week on Israel:
      http://west.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4216&Itemid=300128
“I say this based upon a speech that then – Senator Obama gave to AIPAC a mere three years ago emphasizing a totally different policy position. In reviewing history, I would say Sir Neville Chamberlain was naive in his negotiations with German Chancellor Adolph Hitler. However, when one examines the current state of affairs in the Middle East, including the Fatah-Hamas reconciliation pact, increase of rocket/mortar attacks from Gaza, the definitive Hamas Charter statement vowing the destruction of Israel, and the Hamas condemnation of America for killing Osama bin Laden… I cannot attribute this incompetent statement to naïveté, but rather to conscious, nefarious, and malicious intent.

Yes, I am very aware these words and the statement I released will be carried forward all across America, and possibly beyond – and yes they are strong words. However, it is time that someone rose up to speak the truth. The statement President Obama made, one without sharing with Prime Minister Netanyahu, is one of the most insidious and heinous policy statements ever made by any United States President, and completely unacceptable. I will not sit back idly and watch us saunter down the road to perdition!” ~ Allen West

Probably the most hilarious moment during the town hall was when a gentleman yelled out to me, “Where were you five years ago in 2006?” Presumably he must have thought I was in Washington, D.C. causing the many problems I am now working to address. I replied, “I was in Afghanistan, where were YOU?” ~ Allen West

Yea, Code Orange, I guess leadership is all about racism, right? If your racist putative POTUS can’t measure up to Allen West, call West’s supporters names, get into our faces, call us names, or cry RACISM!

I’ll tell you how racist I am. Back in the 1960s (you do remember the tense 1960s, don’t you?), I taught a series of swimming classes of students, NOT ONE of which was white, with the exception of my son. I taught water safety (swimming lessons) for the Red Cross for 17 years, and every student passed his or her test. Every person was a certified swimmer, black or white.

Care to crawl back under your rock?

Where else was he going to go? He is an idiot and everyone knows it. He will do incredible damage to the GOP and may actually up MSNBC rating because he will be a laughing stock.
This is a good example why Herman Cain should not be taken seriously. If you saw him on Cris Wallace he is an empty suit. All hat and no cattle. Just because someone is a minority and agrees publicly with what you what to hear it doesn’t make them a good spokesperson for your cause. HC is a nice guy and blah blah blah but he will get embarrassed in a debate. This is no time to let your white guilt get in the way of choosing the right person for the party. I’ll take Alan Keyes over HC if I had too but lets not jump on a wagon with a bad wheel. Patience will be rewarded

I lost respect for Steel when he apologized for criticizing Rush as an entertainer and not being on the front lines.
Steel was right, but he caved to the political and media pressure. That is not what leaders do.

I always wondered about him, and wondered why on earth he was the head of the GOP, because he didn’t have the skills for it. RINO at best. Liar is more likely.
