Its Official: State GOP Confirms Santorum Iowa Winner

AP

The Iowa Republican Party officially declared Rick Santorum the winner of the state’s Jan. 3 caucuses, after saying Thursday no winner could be confirmed because votes from eight precincts were missing.

Mitt Romney was initially declared the Iowa winner with an eight-vote finish over Santorum. On Thursday, the state Republican Party said the final vote count actually put Santorum ahead by 34 votes, but couldn’t officially declare him the winner because of the missing precincts.

But shortly before midnight Friday, on the eve of the South Carolina primary, the Iowa Republican Party reversed course and issued a one-line statement declaring Santorum the winner of the state, Politico reported.

“In order to clarify conflicting reports and to affirm the results released January 18 by the Republican Party of Iowa, Chairman Matthew Strawn and the State Central Committee declared Senator Rick Santorum the winner of the 2012 Iowa Caucus,” the statement said.

The final vote tally was 29,839 votes for Santorum and 29,805 for Romney, with a turnout of 121,503.

Romney called Santorum to congratulate him on Thursday, though his campaign released a statement saying the state had been “a virtual tie.”

The Iowa GOP announcement puts the primary vote tally at one each for Romney and Santorum.

      This is a strategy that actually hurts Santorum. If Santorum gets more votes now and Gingrich gets less that makes Romney the winner in SC and gives Romney a huge boost. (Glenns plan too seemingly.) If Gingrich wins this helps Newt, Rick and Ron Paul. You can clame moral authority and all that but if you shoot yourself in the foot strategically you still lose.
      Vote for Gingrich in SC and then donate to Santorum or Paul if you want him for president .

      The next time Santorum says he did not vote for right to work because the people of his state did not want it, he needs to be reminded that he was a senator, not a representative and his job was not to represent the will of the people but the interests of his state. His defense is flawed.

      Unlike Mitt Romney, who occasionally beats President Obama in general election poll match ups, Newt Gingrich trails far behind President Obama in every survey. But just how bad are Gingrich’s unfavorable among the general public compared to Obama and Romney?

      Not every poll releases their full results, so here are the most recent:

      Fox News, 1/12-1/14:
      Obama, fav/unfav, 51%/46%, +5
      Gingrich, fav/unfav, 27%/56%, -29

      CBS/NYT, 1/12-1/17:
      Obama, fav/unfav, 38%/45%, -7
      Gingrich, fav/unfav, 17%/49%, -32

      PPP, 1/13-1/17:
      Obama, app/dis, 47%/50%, -3
      Gingrich, fav/unfav, 26%/60%, -34

      http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/america-hates-newt-gingrich/326161

      thank Ron Paul supporter for catching them
      Washington Wells Precinct in the town of Moulton, population 658, to caucus and cast their first-in-the-nation vote for the Republican nominee.

      Among them was the fortuitously named Edward L. True, a 28-year-old independent contractor and a Ron Paul supporter. It was his first caucus, and he recorded the precinct results on a scrap of manila envelope paper—Bachmann 3, Perry 13, Paul 7, Huntsman 1, Santorum 21, Romney 2, and Gingrich 6—which he then posted on his Facebook page and the election watchdog website WatchTheVote2012.com. “Transparency is what we need in our electoral system to ensure that every vote does count,” True explains.

      The local voting trend recorded by True roughly matched the other 12 precincts in Appanoose County, which all had either no votes for Romney or low-single-digit totals, except Vermillion Douglas Sharon, which tallied an outlier 20 votes. In general, the rural southeast corner of Iowa was not Mitt Romney country.

      Nice point Vehor- It doesn’t matter when it comes to bigotry. All these bigots lining up behind Newt as an anti-Romney will only ensure if Newt wins the primary, Obama will win in a landslide. Much like McCain. I know a lot of Democrats who are willing to vote for Romney, but never in a million years would vote for Newt or Santorum. I am really sick in my stomach how so many people, especially those who visit the Blaze frequently, support the Progressive socio-path pig, Gingrich. Interesting how these largely Evangelical states have Evangelical leaders who form groups opposing Romney because he is a Mormon. I used to think the attacks from the left about the right having a huge component of racism in was just a bunch of hyperbole, but after witnessing the extent of bigotry in first the 2008 election, now again in the 2012 , I seriously am beginning to believe I can’t justify aligning myself with the right. I am serious. These people, apparently will go to whatever extent necessary, even so far as lying and cheating, to have their end satisfy their means. True alinsky methods. What’s most amazing, I never realized how stupid so many on the right really are. The powers to be have tricked those smarty pants conservatives into believing Romney was the establishment candidate, in order to bring Newt into picture, when all the money behind Newt is the same money that was behind McCain and Bush. Newt is only looking to use this political position for wealth the kind like Romney s

      New Hampshire uses Black Box Voting for over 90% of its votes (Black Box Voting = concealed vote-counting machines. This violates New Hampshire’s own constitution which states that the votes must be counted “in public meeting”).

      I will publish a detailed, point-by-point description of several quite bad choke-points in New Hampshire election integrity tomorrow. Here’s the short version, and a preview:

      - All New Hampshire voting machines are programmed by a Massachusetts-based sole source no-bid contractor with a convicted narcotics trafficker at its helm;

      - A crafty change in NH law now makes it illegal for the public to examine the real ballots under right to know law;

      - A change in NH law in 2008 now makes most recounts impossible;

      - New Hampshire does not follow its own legally required vote-stuffing safeguards.

      SOUTH CAROLINA

      New Hampshire will produce an anointed candidate who will “do better than expected” to become “inevitable.“ Some of the other frontrunners will be hammered down firmly with ”worse than expected”; all week long before South Carolina we will get treated to a persuasive TV pundit parade telling us what we should think.

      It’s only gotten worse since 1988, when author Joan Didion wrote: “…those inside the process had congealed into a permanent political class, the defining characteristic of which was its readiness to abandon those not inside the process.” (Political Fictions)

      In South Carolina (where, as you may recall, the paperless ES&S iVotronic touchscreens gave us Alvin Greene in the 2010 Democratic primary), the counting process is not only entirely concealed, but the original record — the voters own verified ballot — is unrecoverable, and chain of custody on the count is unascertainable. By the way, it also violate the South Carolina constitution to conceal the vote counting process from the public. http://www.blackboxvoting.org/

      @Hobbs57

      First of all, I agree not voting for someone simply because he is Mormon, is ridiculous. While I have many problems w/ Mormonism as an extra-biblical sect w/ many non-biblical beliefs (such as Jesus Christ & Lucifer being spirit bros), it would not keep me from voting for him. Most Mormons teach & practice strong family & civic values. They are by & large pro-life, and God fearing – though I would disagree w/ them over the nature & person of God , Heaven & Hell, & salvation by Grace alone.

      Your definition of bigotry & racism is wanting. Would you be racist or bigoted if you refused to vote for someone that was an open communist or a secular humanist (“atheist”)? Your world views are at complete odds w/ one another. So IF someone is opposed to a Catholic, Protestant, Mormon, or Muslim in the Whitehouse that does not make them racist.

      The problem w/ Romney is his politics. Despite what he now says, historically he has been pro-abortion (violating LDS teachings – so he isn’t a Mormon in that case), unrepentantly pro socialized medicine (only says he would have done it “differently”), & he supported the 2008 bailouts. Many conservative Christians listen to Glenn Beck for his insight & many would vote for him for a political office. The problem w/ Romney isn‘t that he’s a Mormon, its that he’s a progressive socialist. Plain & simple. Wise up its NOT what a politician says they’ll do, but what they’ve done that matters.

How can they certify this when they know ballots are missing? IOWA WAKE UP! Every Iowa Republican should be up in arms about this! I think there is some small town, small-minded politicking going on! The evangelicals are getting desperate.

      Oh no, my pastor has me so worked up over his hateful talking points that I feel shame if I vote for anyone who isn’t baptized in my church. Then, I get the pressure from the voting people to remake the outcome because it just doesn’t look right having a Mormon win in the heart of evangelical country. I don’t know what to do anymore. I can’t vote for newt because he is a terrible example of what my religion is, and I think he should be in jail. I liked Michelle, but she is no longer in the race, then there is Santorum, but he is the leader of the Christian Taliban and will never win the general election….ummm, what to do, what to do….Ron Paul well, he is spot on with his interpretation of the constitution, but I’m not sure he can protect Israel.

      This just isn’t right. I can’t vote for the one I think will make a difference in our economy, I can‘t vote for the one who has lived a moral and upright life before God because he wasn’t baptized in my church. Oh Mitt, I wish you were evangelical cause you would win by 97% of every conservative vote out there. I guess I’ll just do what I did last time, vote for someone like Huckabee and pull some shennanigans to make sure Mitt can’t win fairly. Then when Obama is re-elected, I can blame it on the media picking McCain. I know, the media is so powerful. I just can’t decide anything for myself.

      @LibertyGoddess Vote for whom you believe will best Govern the United States of America. Keep this portion of our Law in mind:

      “Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: — ‘I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, PRESERVE, PROTECT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES.’”

      I myself support Paul’s candidacy. I recommend for you to read Ezekiel 38-39, Psalms 83, and Zechariah 14. Read the Israelite’s fight to conquer the land of Caanan wherein God proclaims his hand alone will defeat their enemies. Read wherein David defeated Goliath through his faith in the might of the Lord. And then, tell me, who is in charge of protecting Israel? And who is the one who will never fail Israel? And to whom will all the glory be, when he gathers all nations against Israel, and, by his power alone, defeats all her enemies?

      Paul in the NH debate said he doesn’t want Iran to have a nuke. Senator Rand Paul said of his dad, “[he] doesn’t want (Iran) to have nuclear weapons, he thinks it would be destabilizing for them to have them, but he thinks there needs to be a healthy debate in Congress about what our response should be.” Paul has repeatedly said that if we want war, we should declare it, fight it, win it, and come back home. No nation building. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATmUE8TCmjE

      @LibertyGoddess Paul said, “We must only send our men and women to fight for our country when the mission is clear, every necessary tool needed to win is provided, and we respect the Constitution by declaring war. Once war is declared, it must be waged according to Just War principles. We should only fight when it’s in our national security interest, and we should no longer do the corrupt United Nation’s bidding by policing the world.” http://www.ronpaul2012.com/the-issues/statement-of-faith/

      The other day, Obama’s administration actually warned Israel to not attack Iran. Who are we to dictate to another Nation when or why to attack, especially when they are acting in self defense? Who are we to determine for Israel whether or not she is threatened, and how she must act accordingly to the threat?

      Paul said of Israel, “We should be their friend and their trading partner. They are a democracy and we share many values with them. But we should not be their master. We should not dictate where their borders will be nor should we have veto power over their foreign policy.”

      Paul was a handful to support Israel‘s decision to attack Iraq’s nuclear facilities in 1981. When asked what he thinks about Israel attacking Iran, he responded, if Israel felt threatened, she has every right to defend herself and protect her interests.

    The damage is done. Romney won according to the pundits, the newspapers, the collaborators. Money is a powerful tool. Romney has got lots of it. Rick Santorum is a decent man, honest and clean cut. Clean cut won’t make it against Chicago Thuggery. Obama and his thugs will make mince meat out of clean cut Rick. After Obama gets done with Rick Santorum (if he winds up winning the nomination) you won’t even recognize him. We need a junkyard dog to go against the Chicago Thug Machine – somebody, like Chuck Norris says, “scarred and battle tested veteran of the political wars”. That would be Newt Gingrich hands down. Mitt Romney is suave and debonaire. Eats caviar, sails in comfortable yachts, rides in long limos – he is a softy. Rick Santorum for all his good lines, his championing of family and human life is a cup cake as Obama and his Chicago reprobates view him. There is an expression that says a man hasn’t lived until his reputation has been tarnished. Newt Gingrich is a man who has lived. These are dark times. We can think of Mordor like John McCain alluded to in describing the TEA Party. Indeed America is in the shadows of Obama’s Mordor. We need Newt Gingrich to slay this dragon, this beast and embarrassment of a president we call Barack Hussein Obama.

      Very Well Said!

      In spite of the “pundits,” and imho, Romney has shot himself in the foot by refusing to be forthcoming with his tax returns. America has learned, from BHO, the dangers lurking around someone who dodges issues and hides and lies.

      BHO wasn’t vetted! Romney refuses to be vetted! Which means — all possibilities of Romney being nominated are in the tank! Romney has made a “career” out of running for president. He’s done! Romney shot himself down by refusing to be honest.

      Romney Lost IA and Romney Will Lose SC Today!

      I disagree. I think all of you miss the point with Ron Paul. I believe he would have a huge win against the Chicago thug. He is a shoe in for the Independent vote, at least 25-30% of the Dems, he would also get what helped Obama, the young vote, and that just leaves the Republicans like myself. I cannot believe all of you cannot see it. Paul would make us so much stronger with our military. You probably have not even heard what he truly thinks as you just get what the media says or small 30-60 second snippets in the debates. He has said that we are weaker militarily as we spend so much of our military budget overseas, when we should be spending more building our military here at home. If Iran was to block the Strait of Hormuz, and that was considered an act of war or a national security risk to the U.S., he would immediately go to the Congress. If given a declaration of war, we would be in and out so fast it would make everyones head swim, guaranteed with no nation building afterwards. After one time of actually going to war the right way, every country would think twice before starting a conflict with the United States.

      Everyone already agrees that his economic policies are the best. If we do not get our economics under control, and quickly, we are not going to be around to have a military.

      You make a good point. It is too bad that Paul seems to be the only Constitutionalist in the race. I wish all of them were Constituionalists so we would have more choice.
      I think/hope Santorum and the others are on that learning curve as the many of us are, but they have a ways to go. Or at least they are giving it lip service. Obama flat out says he is against the Constitution on video.

We spend how much money processing these people and paying for their stays in prison and jails when we could put the money to better use in education, rehab. and health care. Why keep throwing good money after bad..It would be like cigarettes..it would phase out..why should we embrace a communistic government? Why don’t people want freedom? Why don’t they love the principles this once great nation was founded on.. We only have one man who represents us..a smaller government..a way out of debt to China.. a free and soveriegn nation. a strong defense.. and Constitutional way to weed out the foreign theocracies..Why make a big deal out a man’s presentation..He’s fought for outr right to freedom against the majority bent on taking it away..You people need to think.

I honestly don’t believe anyone even bothers..Paul has foretold the wars and exactly what would happen..He has an uncanny ability in foreign policy and that is what everyone is missing.. If we need to go to war..he would take it to Congress..get in ..win ..get out.. Have they neglected to tell you that we are 15 trillion in the hole right now and that Marshall Law could be declared any moment and we won’t fight any wars ever again.. Paul is the only one who can make our defense strong and fight terrorism here at home..Did you know that we have Comnunists and the Muslim Brotherhood running our government now? The Constitution is the only thing that can weed it out..No one else has a plan except to rule us in a progressive Communistic way…Is that really what you desire? THe NWO spoken of by George H Bush with David Rockefeller stating that just one good disaster would make the people agreeable to it. and Henry Kissinger saying that the American people wouldn’t like it but it would be for their own good..Reallly watch the video.. I am a life-long Republican saying this. I believe this shows the Rep establishment at work. If these results were announced 18 days ago how different things would have been. I believe that the week leading into NH would have been alot of talk about how Santorum won Iowa and how the front runner Romney lost. I believe Santorum would have raised far more money and gotten more of a bump in NH finishing better than 4th. It smells of a set up to run with the narrative after NH of Romney being the first to win both Iowa & NH to try to lock up the nomination. SC do us all a favor and vote in large numbers for the conservatives that are left change the narrative. Santorum or Paul need to finish in 2nd or a close 3rd.
