Report Post »BeenThereDoneThat
Posted on September 21, 2010 at 8:03amNo. We’re pretty divided..we Americans. There is a huge divide. We must choose.
Report Post »Silversmith
Posted on September 21, 2010 at 8:35amFirst, the “divide” you speak of is pure theater. It’s like prosecuting and defense attorneys. In court, they posture and pontificate and become indignant and enraged over the issues. Then, when court is not in session, they are sharing steaks and scotch at Morton’s using all the nice money they got for that performance. In Washington there is pretty much only one team. The choice is – are we going to allow the self-imposed nobility of Senators and Congressmen to remain so?
Term limits now.

Posted on September 21, 2010 at 10:55amBeaconofTruth . . . . Let’s be honest:
The left created the socio-political movement that has rewritten the rule book, has changed the etiquette of socio-political engagement. The Tea Party is simply meeting on the battleground mentally suited to the challenges of our time . . . It’s not our fault the left is conducting themselves in the manner in which they have, and are; nor is it our fault that establishment Republicans and RINO’s do not wish to accept these things, as they are . . . to step on the proving ground the way in which the Tea Party sees it necessary and appropriate to do.
To understand, realize there is a seriousness that has resulted from a provocation that must be dealt with on the American socio-political landscape. However, your sentiment for unity is greatly appreciated; and be assured, “re-unity” is very much part of the Tea Party plan.
Report Post »Dispman
Posted on September 21, 2010 at 11:10amIn our representative Republic, there will always be Americans who believe that big government is necessary. There will always be Americans who believe small government is necessary. There will always be the push and pull between these two opposing points of view. The middle ground is seen during the brief moment when the pendulum is swinging back the other way.
Report Post »BeaconForTruth
Posted on September 21, 2010 at 12:55pmI think you are missing my point. We Americans’ have a government unlike any the world has ever seen. We agree on what the issues are, whether it is abortion, taxes, government size, equality and uniting the country. Americans disagree on what the course of action should be.
Report Post »Dispman
Posted on September 21, 2010 at 2:02pmI didn’t miss your point, you have restated my point. You say, “Americans disagree on what the course of action should be”, I concur. Some believe that the proper course of action is utilizing the powers of the government others believe that the proper course of action is to get the government out of the way. The middle ground is tough to find and even tougher to hold.

Posted on September 22, 2010 at 8:22amProgressive Democrates vs Progressive Republicans that is the question. What mode of transportation should this path follow. Rapid or slow-easy, buck-board jarring or pleasant air-spring ride. Progressives have displayed stoddard solvent discipline to gain support in the past 100 years. Today’s buckboard ride has been given a short rest with Mr. Matthews comment. Others have participated in this sham-wow, but Pres 43 and his supporting cast produced the present legislative configuration of ‘majority’ in simple democracy exemplifying mobocracy. ‘Why is charlie running, I don’t know but we should run also.’

The only way for them to save the few remaining crew members on the sinking ship, is to direct attention anywhere other seeing the ship sink. They can’t be seen going down with the ship. They need Independents to keep control, so the extremists, like Mathews, are going to move towards the center and try to propagate a lie. They aren’t anywhere near center, but their believers know they can’t win on their agenda. So, for a few months, Chris Mathews has to try to draw in the Independents. It’s their only hope to avoid disaster.

Posted on September 21, 2010 at 8:47am. . . . but paying taxes is, “patriotic” as old Joe likes to put it.
Don’t allow yourself or America to become a victim of this shell game of words again. The left has been using this tactic to survive in feigned stoic proportions since Bill Clinton and company orchestrated the same about face. It’s the same political dance; the same turn that appears to be stopping at 180 degrees when in reality it’s going full circle, 360 degrees right back to where it started. They’ll be right back to their old direction just as soon as they believe they’ve placate the mood of the country back into a more manageable and shapeable state of mind.
This is what they do. They wreak their havoc, plant their socio-political road side bombs and trip wires, and then fade back into the general population to play innocent, and even as Mathews demonstrated, the role of denouncer, the voice of reason over such atrocities . . . .

He was speaking to the 47% of Americans that DON’T PAY federal income taxes, but will still be getting a “refund”.
So in Obamanomics, the government WILL be sending people money that is not theirs to begin with. The great redistributor in action! This was nothing more than pandering to the zero liabilty voter and continuing the economic enslavement of people to the government. Nothing here to see folks; just buying votes (with your money). Posted on September 21, 2010 at 2:26pmThe idea that the media are “liberal” is complete lie! Chris Matthews & MSNBC are proof positive! There is NO LIBERAL MAINSTREAM MEDIA!
In the last 10 or 20 years, there has been massive research documenting the fact that the media are extraordinarily subordinated to external power. Now when you have that power, the best technique is to ignore all that discussion. Ignore it totally and to eliminate it by the simple device of asserting the opposite. If you assert the opposite that eliminates mountains of evidence demonstrating what youre saying is false.
Thats what power means. The way you assert the opposite is by saying the media are liberal. And now the question that we discuss is are the media too liberal or are they not too liberal. Now that youve narrowed the agenda to the one acceptable question (are the media too liberal?), you have to look at the way its argued. If you want to show that, you would look at the media product, and you would try to demonstrate that it reflects a slant or distortion supporting a liberal agenda.
However, nobody does this. It would be too much work. Because if you did it, you would fall flat on your face quick. So whats done is to produce a proposal so idiotic that you have to wonder at the cynicism of the people who are putting it forth and their contempt of the population. The proposal is the following: lets ask how journalists vote. Now 80% of them vote Democrat. OKAY weve now proven the media are too liberal.
Even if those facts are right it proves nothing. The issue is whether the media are free NOT whether the individuals in the media are themselves liberal. Are the media by their institutional structure, free to allow expression of opinion from whatever source? So if it turned out that 80% of journalists were part of ONE faction of the business party rather than another faction of the business party, would that tell you anything?
No would be the answer.
