‘It’s Time to Unleash God’: Jim Wallis & Co. Go on ‘Hunger Fast’ to Stop Budget Cuts

Its Time to Unleash God: Jim Wallis & Co. Go on Hunger Fast to Stop Budget Cuts

Tony Hall (from the hungerfast.org website).

“It’s time to call in God,” former Ambassador Tony Hall said last week. “It’s time to unleash God.”

Hall made those comments at a press conference last week announcing the beginning of “HungerFast.org” — “a campaign of those committed to fasting and prayer to protect vulnerable people from budget cuts that lack conscience.”

According to a press release, the group says that while the House’s proposed budget cuts represent a 2.6% cut in total spending, it represents a 26% cut in spending on poverty-focused foreign aid.

Hall, who fasted for 22 days in 1993 to protest the abolishment of the House Select Committee on Hunger, was joined by Obama spiritual adviser Jim Wallis, the liberal religious figure who trumpets “social justice” as the leader of the group Sojouners. Wallis is taking part in the fast, too.

“Ultimately this is a fast before God,” Wallis said at the press conference, “to whom we turn when we don’t know what else to do.”

But Wallis’s fast seems to be open to a subjective interpretation: “We will pray and fast, each of us in our own way, for mercy, compassion, wisdom, strength, and courage, as we make the critical budget choices about who and what are most important.” Hall’s previous fast was reportedly water-only.

On the campaign’s website, participants can take part in a variety of ways:

Its Time to Unleash God: Jim Wallis & Co. Go on Hunger Fast to Stop Budget Cuts

Either way, Wallis sees this as a “spiritual escalation” — “A spiritual escalation to bring those critical moral choices to the attention of the nation, and seek God’s help in doing so:”

The campaign is sponsored by a variety of groups, including: World Vision, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Jewish Council on Foreign Affairs, as well as the Islamic Society of North America and Islamic Relief.

Its Time to Unleash God: Jim Wallis & Co. Go on Hunger Fast to Stop Budget Cuts

Jim Wallis

Despite Wallis and his ilk’s biblical assertions, critics may accuse them of missing the point by going public with their fasting plan. In Matthew 6:16-18, Jesus seems to say that those who fast should do so in private:

When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Still, Hall believes the move will get the Almighty’s attention: “It’s how we tell God we mean business.”

These chumps want the government to forcefully extract earnings from those who work and then redistribute among those who don’t (and maybe keep a little on the side). The Bible tells us we’ll always have the poor and hungry but charity would (if allowed) prevail over tyranical taxation. Socialism stinks.

Indeed, it is way past time to “unleash GOD”! That would be the first thing on my agenda, but this idiot has no idea what he is asking for. The BIBLE tells us over and over about the “horrible day of the LORD” when HE bursts through into our world.

CHRISTIANS want HIM to burst through. the left should run, but there’s nowhere for them to hide.

This is too good for words….. PRAY for us all, folks. These idiots have no idea what they are asking for. I’m going to look up some verses and will post them under this headline later today. You all please do the same. We need to be ready “when GOD is unleashed” upon this world.

I would love to see their faces when they see what they have done….

“Religous nuts” is accurate since they supposely worship a god they can call in when it is time and then “unleash” him. Remember what Hall said, ” “It’s time to call in God. ,It’s time to unleash God.” Only a “religious nut” would want such a God.

Maybe they should be concerned about the manner in which they are approaching God, “Its how we tell God we mean business”, Pretty strong rhetoric when involving God and asking (no, it sounds more like demanding) his help . “Time to call in God”, “Its time to unleash God” “spiritual escalation”. Wouldn’t want to go in that arena with their attitude, just saying God does not like to be mocked or imposed upon. Galations 6:7

Fasting will be good for those who do it (although a you should fast for a solid week or more–not just one day). However, it wont really matter because if you are attempting to fast in the biblical fashion, you have to have a connection to God.

In ironic fashion. The problem with the budget is represented by the last of the 3 boxes. Everyone should reduce their food costs to $2 a day. But the people that are feeding off the people that should eat for only $2 a day, should reduce their food intake to $4 a day…I’m sorry…$4 in food stamps. I dont think a fast will ever fix that type of thinking.

Let’s see, we as a nation spend 4 billion a day in debt. Meaning we don’t have this money! The RINO’s want to cut 60 billion in 2011. That equals 15 total days of no debt spending over the whole year. The D’s want to cut 30 billion and that equals 7.5 total days of no debt spending over the whole year. Does anyone see that both parties are taking our country down? One at full throttle and the other just pressing the gas half way. In any case we are moving toward the edge of the cliff. These people should be appealing to us individual to step up and the Church to reach out to those in need not the goverment. The followers of Baal fasted and prayed and whipped themselves to get Baal’s attention. These people’s God is the the Goverment.

The very statement “unleashing God” says it all for me. A person who makes such a statement doesn’t understand the attributes of God but rather believes in a God he himself may manipulate. God is not leashed. He is not impotent to act. He is in total control and will not be thwarted. The Mighty One of Israel says in Isaiah 55:
      6 Seek the LORD while he may be found;
call on him while he is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake their ways
      and the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will freely pardon.
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
      declares the LORD.
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

God is achieving His plan and a great many will be decieved. Believe it!

Let them “fast” for those reasons if they choose to do so. All that means is that will wind up starving themselves to death which is their right to choose if they so desire. Just because someone “fasts” does not mean that they are going to force God to do something that they want Him to do, one thing that I’ve noticed throughout history is that God has NEVER bowed down and knuckled under to pressure or threats or anything else. He just lets these fakers go on and do their thing and they will have to face the consequences of their own actions.

Hey Wallis, when I am eating a nice big double cheeseburger with the works, and sucking down my extra thick chocolate shake and extra crispy fries in a small-business cafe, I’ll be thinking about you! As for sending a message to God that you mean business…..I’ll be waiting for the Heavens to start laughing. Something you may have forgotten in your “I am God” world is that when men plan – God laughs! Ha, ha, ha, ha……

Biblically speaking, this so called “ fast” is directly in contradiction to the word of GOD. GOD says fast for the lifting of burdens, the removal of yokes, and for righteousness’s sake. Yet Wallis and his cronies are bringing a fast to lay a burden, to assign a yoke upon the people of this nation. I have a feeling they could fast forever ( now, now, carefull what you ask for!) and not have this one answered.

Thank the Lord someone in politics finally decided that FASTING was the most effective thing to do for change. I have been posting this exact thing for years now. The City of Nineveh was changed and converted from PRAYING, FASTING & REPENTING. God spared them because of it. Strength comes from fasting. The Devil and his minions hate it! All the more reason to do it.

Furthermore, once the world understands the widespread demonic activity in all that is bad, they will understand how and why to pray, fast & repent. All evil, ALL EVIL, comes from Satan and his demons and devils (fallen angels.)

We must bind and cast out all these demons and devils at the same time we are PRAYING, FASTING & REPENTING.

This must be done by starting with the HEAD, THE DESPOT, THE RULER OF THE UNDERWORLD. Claim the head demon/devil of the sin you bind and cast out in the name of Jesus Christ, and when you start with the head demon, the rest will flee!

Jesus told us in the Bible that when a thief breaks into a house, does he not secure the strong man first, so that he will succeed in robbing the house? Same principle. Start with the head, the strongest of the demons, and the rest are no contest. In the story of David and Goliath, didn’t Goliath boast to the Israelites to send their strongest man to fight him, the Phillistines’ strongest man? The Phillistines sent Goliath, their strongest (demon/devil.) Goliath laughed at puny little David with a slingshot saying, “This is your strongest?” It didn’t matter when David had God on his side. He shot him dead with a slingshot, and then cut off his HEAD. Another parallel to cutting out the Head first.

Learn from these parables, they are our most solid direction.

JD Carp-You made me laugh out loud!

I have a better idea…..what if they ate only $4.00 worth of food a day while they “fast” and give the rest of what they would normally spend TO……THE……POOR?????? I asked on Jim Wallis’s blog which charities he supports/helps/advises that actually CLOTHE the naked and FEED the poor. Answer-ZIP. Not one of his followers could give me the name of ONE organization he’s got his hands in that actually DOES what the Lord commanded us to do. Oh he sponsors plenty of seminars and flies his fat little can all over the world to talk about how evil and stupid Americans are-and Glenn Beck is one of his favorite targets-but the man actually never gets his own hands “dirty” out there with the least among us. FABulous guy huh?

I LOVE the comment from religious leaders that they call upon God “when they don’t know what else to do”. One of the most brilliant, and hypocritical comments ever made!!!! Does the Bible not tell us to call upon God in ALL things, EVERY day, and for every concern? I cannot find one verse that states that we are supposed to scream, yell, demand the ears of congress, advise the President, and launch campaign after campaign BEFORE you call upon God to “help out”.

The idea that “we” have to “unleash” God is about as stupid as the idea that God only knows we are serious if we hold a press conference.

      IDIOTS.

Ghandi would be so proud, their commitment to their cause extends to “one meal” a day! Why, some might call their commitment “part-time”, but that ignores the fact that they then only have two meals a day to ingest three meals worth of food – the struggle continues all day!

Fasting is what people without a voice do to get a message out – but I find it hard to believe Jim Wallis doesn’t have a voice… Why, can’t he simply call up President Obama and let his views be known to the most powerful man in the world?

Someone should tell Wallis that God is a classical liberal for the most part when it comes to economics. Fasting to make him make them stop will do about as much good as chanting spells. Wallis and friends would be better off fasting to beg God to help them get a clue.
