Speaking before the House Homeland Security Committee last week, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Congress that members of terrorist groups that intend to harm the country enter the U.S. through Mexico “from time to time,” confirming an inconvenient truth that many have been aware of for years.

During the July 25 hearing, Rep. Ron Barber (D-Ariz.) asked Napolitano: “As you know, Madam Secretary, there have been anecdotal reports about material evidence of the presence of terrorists along our southern border. My question is, is there any credible evidence that these reports are accurate and that terrorists are, in fact, crossing our southern border with the intent to do harm to the American people?”

With none of the assurance that one would hope the head of DHS would convey, Napolitano answered: “With respect, there have been — and the Ababziar matter would be one I would refer to that’s currently being adjudicated in the criminal courts — from time to time, and we are constantly working against different and evolving threats involving various terrorist groups and various ways they may seek to enter the country.”

She continued: “What I can tell you, however, is that that southern border–the U.S.-Mexico border–is heavily, heavily staffed at record amounts of manpower, materiel, infrastructure and the like, and we are constantly making sure we’re doing all we can to make that border as safe as possible.”

It’s difficult to determine how closing nine Border Patrol stations across four states, including six in Texas, is making the border “as safe as possible.” Or how the Obama administration’s decision to end program 27(g), which allowed local law enforcement agencies to enforce federal immigration law without assistance from federal agencies, is making the border “as safe as possible.”

According to an audit by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in 2009, Customs and Border Protection reported “there were three individuals encountered by the Border Patrol at southwest border checkpoints who were identified as persons linked to terrorism.”

In April 2010, CNSNews.com reported that FBI Director Robert Mueller told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, “In Detroit, Mahmoud Youssef Kourani was indicted in the Eastern District of Michigan on one count of conspiracy to provide material support to Hezbollah. … Kourani was already in custody for entering the country illegally through Mexico and was involved in fundraising activities on behalf of Hezbollah.”

Five years ago, in an August 2007 interview with the El Paso Times, then-Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell echoed what Napolitano told Congress last week about terrorist coming into the U.S. across the Mexican border.

“So, are terrorists coming across the Southwest border?” McConnell said in that interview. “Not in great numbers.”

“There are some cases?” asked the El Paso Times.

“There are some. And would they use it as a path, given it was available to them? In time they will,” said McConnell.

“If they’re successful at it, then they’ll probably repeat it,” asked the reporter.

“Sure,” said McConnell. “There were a significant number of Iraqis who came across last year. Smuggled across illegally.”

“Where was that?” asked the reporter.

“Across the Southwest border,” said McConnell.

      BLAZE, I do not know why this article is buried so far down the page. I understand that you base the highlights on the views and comments. I get tired of logging on and seeing the same old stories highlighted all day.

      This article is more important than the FLOTUS Olympic outfit and the US skeet shooter and even Becks event. While I loved Restoring Love as we all did, can you not bury current national security articles to cover something that many of us have viewed and read about or maybe even had been there. This is one time that I have to say that the Blaze needs to progress if we are to activate.

    Makes you wonder if Ron Paul was right about the Mexico-US border being more of a national security threat than Iraq or some low-level towelheads in the middle east.

    I remember conservatives screaming up and down about the border during the Bush years but the republican party did nothing about it. Now we have another RINO weak on illegal immigration with a potentially more weak border VP (Rubio or Jeb)

Ron Paul’s attitude towards Israel (the only free nation in the entire region) is so cavalier and non-committal that it smacks of Antisemitism, and, I’ve heard enough of the nonsensical Palestinian propaganda from Paul-bots to know that it most certainly exist among his rabid followers. Call Zionism what you will, but the fact of the matter is that the land where Israel currently exists was the Jewish homeland for millennia, and it is the Jewish homeland today. Also, it is a fact that the so-called “Palestinian” authority has in its charter that they are committed to destroying Israel, and continuously attack Israel (all the while, their defense of these attacks are called “apartheid terrorism” and worse). It is humorous to regard Israel an “apartheid nation,” when roughly 20% of their citizens are Arab, and studies show that they live far better than Arabs anywhere else in the Middle East (apart from the princes and shrieks). Freedom House (an organization created by Democrats) determined that Israel is the only “free” nation in the entire region.

      When folks say nothing but bad about Israel, and about abandoning her to her hundreds of million of enemies, it says volumes about them, and Mr. Paul and his followers rank pretty low on my list.

      Bekhiet -She is responsible for the signs alons IH 10 and IH 8 warning motorists to watch for Illegals crossing the highway. This is an attempt to make the border safer for the UDAs and will cause less damage to automobiles (the UDAs bleed on cars andf ruin paint jobs when they are hit).
      Fat Janet (where are the doughnuts) is in so far over her head that she doesn’t know which way to turn.

      Some of us are. I actually, for the first time in my life, ran for and won seat on my local county convention. I could not go to the State Convention, or I would have run for that. But I am and will remain active. By the way, I love the Gadsden Flag as you avitar. I have flown, and will fly, the yellow Tea Party flag from my home until we take the country back. To be fair, when my flag wears out and I have to take it down until I get a replacement, I fly the Naval Jack – the 13 stripes with the rattlesnake and Don’t Tread On Me. I will fly the Stars and Stripes when we once again have a Republic, to which it stands, not a People’s Socialist Democracy backed by a Judicial Dictatorship!       I hate to hell ya Pard, but we here in the Pacific Northwest are overr-run with Mexicans as well. Even the local Goodwill store has in-store messages and sales announced in SPANISH (Mexican)!

      ALL of the stores and offices, ESPECIALLY THE GOVERNMENT OFFICES are posted in bi-lingual, and if I call a Government office, I have to press a button for ENGLISH just to talk to the S.O.B. (Sweet Old Boy or Girl) who I will talk to, and when I get to them, I get either a Hispanic or Pakistani accent on the other end, sometimes African-American (for the old set, *****).

      I wonder if there is any America left to cheer for but what Glenn and our crowd are really willing to fight to take back. Well, I am willing. Let’s fight.

      Snow, when I heard yesterday on liberal radio station, the somewhat left host bring up the fact the the DHS is ordering riot gear in preparation of the conventions, I said to myself the same thing that you just commented.

      I mentioned to a friend a few months ago the same thoughts about something manufactured possibly happening to create problems with the election. She called me yesterday after hearing similar reports about the DHS stocking up. I believe that there were reports earlier in the year about the DHS stockpiling other items also i.e tear gas etc.

      Remember one time Obama mentioned there needed to be a civillian defensive force, along the lines of the military, that would answer solely to him, and then came the Americorp projects? Now instead of the Americorp, imagine if Homeland Security is joined by many bands of radical extremists who answer only to Obama…how large of an army would he raise?

      @Kelly, I am glad that you mentioned the white minority point. About 2 years ago I mentioned to my sister about the “blacks” fighting for take over.     I remember arguing with liberals about terrorists coming over the Southwest border, when the news story ran that jihadist material was found by border patrol. They said it doesn’t happen & the material was planted by border patrol or someone.

      Yeah so are there kids.Then again its been that way for decades.Bout as long as they have been letting the enemy into positions of power.They just change records to allow the enemy to operate and torture on american soil.Suddenly old muslim_______ has an american service members name and family.Lies to conceal the truth that the enemy is more than willing to steal your id and desttroy your life and the lives of your kids as well.Worse yet military criminals will further use it then it will go into the civilian sector both by the enemy of the state and the military criminals themselves.Depending on the cell it will be a backfeed of BS almost always concerning crimes the service member nor their family would ever commit[deflection].It allows them to torture and persecute the innocent for decades with almost no recourse.Its alot more complicated than I can describe on this board.This however is the ultra shortened version.
