Japan Quake Moment #14: Tsunami Swarms Kesennuma

AOL News:

A stunning video posted on YouTube captures the Japan tsunami ravaging the city of Kesennuma, in the northeastern part of the country.

The clip begins as a wall of water breaches the coastline and starts sweeping away a parking lot of cars. Sirens sound and a man’s voice is heard giving alerts as the water quickly engulfs the entire area. Within minutes, the surging water has left a path of mass destruction as cars are swept away and buildings are reduced to rubble.

A tremendous video. It becomes obvious after watching that the videographer has absolutely no place with which to escape. The fear must have been palpable.

Obviously, whoever shot this video did make it through the tsunami..but…my question is, “How did they know that the building they were filming from wasn’t going to be washed away as well?”…

Did you all know they had a volcano erupt alone with everything else? Shinmoedake volcano. Sucks to live in Japan at the moment! God help those people. At least most of them had enough sense to be prepared.

Yes I heard about it, similar to one erupting after that big quake hitting Indonesia last year, I think it was a 7.0 or so and within hours, the volcano went active as well.

I heard about it tonight for the first time. It reminds me of Indiana Jones Temple of Doom where he’s hanging off the half of a foot bridge. While hanging there, the Thuggie shoot two dozen arrows at him (all of them miss), and Indy turns around with a look of bewilderment on his face and says, “Jeez!” (or ‘sheesh’ or whatever it was). I can’t help but feel that way for Japan. Earthquake, Tsunami, Nuke disaster, and a volcano. What’s next? I hope nothing!

Well, they were prepard for the tsunami, not for the nuclear disaster. Japan’s seafood industry has suffered an irreparable blow, IMO.

It reminded me of what the eastern half of North Carolina looked like when Hurricane Floyd hit. The water didn’t sweep buildings away like that, but Tarboro and another city were almost entirely under water. Rose Hill, in Duplin County, was an island.

Japan has really been run through the wringer!

      Showtime:

I showed the first set of thirteen videos to my relatives today, and they just shook their own heads in disbelief; they still cannot grasp that this has happened. I had to explain that while it may be among the rarest of events for this magnitude to occur, the japanese isles lost that day.

I would have liked to see the whole event and what it looked like as the waters receeded. did it bring everything back with it or just dump it at the far end. Amazing video it looked like the waters went up to the third floor, about 30 feet. Just amazing the power of Nature. I bet PETA is angry that a lot of sea life was washed ashore and were killed. I suppose they will be saying that humans are not allowed now to obstruct the water flow over land with stuctures of anykind so that if this happens again the fish can swim back out to sea! We are so bad as humans that we don’t take into account the wildlife. we should all live in huts that are easy washed away and gives free access to the fish.

When you think Tsunami, we often think of a monumental wave that washes in and then washes back out. As we can now see, the force and longevity of this massive “wave” lasted more than five minutes and was strong enough to wipe out all but the tallest buildings.

God help those who were washed away as well as those who stood on these buildings and had to witness the diaster unfolding before their eyes.

Wow! That is one very scary tsunami. It was reported yesterday that there were places where the tsunami was up to 16 meters high. Japan does have a lot of tsunamis, but they never had one like this before. Though in the year 869 there may have been one like this, and this was brought up when the plans for the Fukushima nuke plant was being discussed, but they dismissed it and said that it would never happen again, but it did.

Are you kidding me. I watched this video just 6 hours ago and now it’s been taken down by the uploader. How many times are people going to do this. Is it just because it’s on the blaze and someone is playing politics? Hmmm I don’t know.
