Posted on March 14, 2011 at 3:09amThursday night (PST) I fell asleep listening to Coast to Coast AM with George Nory (a guilty pleasure of mine as a conservative pastor’s daughter)…I fell asleep to a guy predicting a major earthquake to happen soon and I woke up to “Breaking news devastating earthquake in Japan…” talk about making me think twice before I completely write the guests off that they have on the show!

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 11:57pmMy daughter didn’t like that I said, “Oh My gosh!” …said I sounded like someone who doesn’t really care? So I said, “Holy Crap!” and she said that at least sounded real. (eye roll)
I made sure I used words like, “horrifying”, and “devastating”, from then on while watching a video from NZ. Kids…
Anyway, definitely praying for all involved, and seeing if my favorite relief org has a way to help… I am sure they do, because they were getting on it, working it out as soon as they found out.

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 9:26pmWe live about 150 miles south of Sendai, and the people here are amazing. ( We are a military family living here.) There hasn’t been rioting, it’s not the Japanese way. People are helping one another and doing what they can for each other. Our military is helping out the best they can, too. Just keep those prayers coming!

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 7:17pmI could not help but have a slight chuckle at the grocery store worker apparently conflicted as wether to hold the merchandise on the shelves or flee for her life. Almost as if she were thinking, If I live through this, I’m going to have to clean this up.

Posted on March 13, 2011 at 11:47amWhen earthquakes happen, at first you don‘t realize it’ll be so bad. You think, “Another tremor”. As it continues, it gets harder and more obvious what’s going on, then you go into “save yourself” mode.

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 6:50pmThere is currently radiation levels reaching 1000 times normal at the damaged nuclear power plant in northern Japan, which was made by General Electric. This GE nuke plant (one of the worst in operation) is about to melt down, and the engineers who are there trying to stop it, are most likely sacrificing their lives right now. This is about as bad as it gets, folks. General Electric, What is it that “you bring good things to” again? Life, is it? Why don’t you up the rotation on that disgusting, stupid, condescending and insulting institutional TV commercial with the dancing elephant, and the line dancing engineers having such fun on the assembly line?

Posted on March 12, 2011 at 5:27pmNO …But just wait…as they say these things always happen in 3′s.
I do want to say that these videos are a testament to japanese engineering. The largest quake in 300 years, 5th largest on record and many of these builldings hardly budged. I think there was more damage from the waves than anything else.
God help these people…..

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 6:32pmThe whales are getting even with the Japs. They(the Japs) also are killing off the larger fishes of OUR oceans. I hope they enjoy their shark fin soup!.
Report Post »Screw them. We have our own problems. Send ALL our UNION members over there to rebuild and they get ‘one way’ tickets.

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 6:47pmDave, this is not about fish, this is about human beings in a disaster. If this was New York City or San Francisco being hit by a tsumani and Japan offered us their help, would you feel the same? I doubt it. I live in an earthquake zone and when the big one hits I’ll be eternally grateful for the people who come to Utah to help us.

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 6:29pmI want everyone to take notice of the difference that is going to occur in the furure between how the people of Japan deal with this disaster and their reconstruction, and that of the Haitian people and how they deal with their disaster. See how much help is and has been given to Haiti, yet they continue to live in squalor and beg for more. I doubt it will be that way in Japan.

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 6:59pmI’ve been watching the live BBC news feed and someone observed how the Japanese people responded so purposefully and calmly to the disaster. Has anyone heard reports of looting or riots? I didn’t think so, and I suspect they’ll be cleaning up and rebuilding in no time (unlike Haiti).

Posted on March 14, 2011 at 3:03amI’ve mentioned this in more than one conversation…the Japanese are a determined culture. Even listening to the audio in the videos-you don’t hear mass panics or see the looting that you saw with Katrina, or Haiti. On an interesting note: I used to live in Olympia WA, fairly close to Evergreen State College (a VERY Liberal college-I always feared for my car when I visited friends because I had a Support Our Troops and Republican bumper stickers), every year there would be protests against what we did at Hiroshima-I will tell you right now there may have been a handful in that crowd that were even Asian let alone Japanese! Having had Japanese exchange students growing up (now I don’t know if Kengi or Otsuko and their families even made it and probably will never know), I came to see them as resourceful and proud. We could learn a few lessons from them in my opinion.
