Japan Quake Moment #8: Tsunami Impact Caught on Video in Fishing Port of Miyako

Editor’s note: This video is part of an ongoing series on The Blaze featuring some of the Japan earthquake’s most breathtaking videos. We have numbered them sequentially so that it is easier to keep track. We will post them throughout out coverage.

BBC News:

Newly emerged footage shows the force at which the tsunami struck Japan’s coast.

In the fishing port of Miyako, in Iwate prefecture, boats were overturned, while video from Kamaishi city shows cars being dragged down city streets by the water.

I just watched another youtube video where, entire row of houses were wipped out and moved along like it was nothing. I keep thinking back to their current estimate of 10,000 dead. Even with advanced warning systems, if they managed to move these people out of harms way in time, it’s a miracle in itself.

It’s hard to believe that alleged union people are protesting their need for more and more taxpayer funding while the Japanese people have suffered one of the greatest disasters in their history. It’s
pathetic. Imagine if you will , whole families lost, never to be found, perhaps washed to sea, while family members and friends are left to mourn their loss. I would suggest all of us, including those in Wisconsin rearrange our priorities. I’m aware that a great number of those on the left in this country
believe there is nothing nor anyone more important than their warped cause. They are beyond all hope. The rest of us must remember what is really important in our lives.

I feel for the Japanese people. I ve been through some big earthquakes here in So Cal. The Whttier quake in the 80s and the Northridge quake in the 90s.. In fact I was doing my business on the stool when the Northridge quake hit. I glad to see that our country is there to help the Japanese. this quake prove with strict building code a building will come through a bad earthquake okay. The earthquake in Christcurch hit were there aren’t as strict building codes as Japan or California. Also having 5,000 earthquakes since the 7.2 in Sept didn’t help either. There is a report on Drudge I think that a volcano in southeast Japan has erupted. The Earth she is going crazy and Planet X is getting closer..

I have to agree with you 100%

After the war, we are kinda joined at the hip. The “honorable enemy.” The fight was long and hard. But after all is said and done, our fate is glued to their fate, and vice versa.

If this administration doesn’t step up and do everything that this country is capable of to help our friends at the hour of their greatest need, we are truly finished as a world power.

But then again, I am seriously biased when it comes to Japan. Too many years, too many friends.

Take my postings for what they are worth.

The reports I’ve heard are estimating that more than 200,000 people left the low lying areas when the tsunami alarms went off. They had between 1 and 2 minutes to heed the warning. Preparedness really paid off for those who heeded the warnings.

I didn’t hear the tsunami alarms in the video. With only a few minutes between the quake and the tsunami I wonder how many towns even got any warning at all. This town did not. I would be willing to bet hundreds if not thousands of people within the camera shot perished.

It shows how completely devastated these towns were, I just kept remembering the words that are said at the begining of every lent on Ash Wednesday. “Remember man that thou are dust, and unto dust you shall return.” Let us remember our ends, this Lent and prepare not just for a disaster, but for meeting God. The Japanese have weathered far worse. History in modern schools has failed to portray what has really happened in the past.

They are resilient, and have experience with tragedy that none of us will ever know.

Radiation awareness and countermeasures? Hell, they invented it.

They have survived much worse, they will take this in stride.

Yes it is, but what is the lesson we should learn from this? Prepare, prepare for the worst hope for the best! I said the night this happened when Fox’s Courtney Friel was reporting from Hawaii she stated ppl were getting food and water but in total the island only had enough to feed everyone for 5 days! She also commented there were lines at every gas station. Imagine if what happened in Japan happened there!

IMO this is a warning shot across all of our bows and is why Glenn has been adamant about preparing. Do what you can as this disaster just proves it can happen to anyone anywhere at anytime!

Keep in mind that this surge spread across hundreds of miles of coastline.

Way, way bigger than anything a hurricane or cyclone could produce.

The effects in life and property damage have been consistently understated

I think the damage could easily top $100 billion and the deaths in the many tens or low hundreds of thousands.

Keep in mind also that Japan holds near a TRILLION dollars in US treasuries, besides being 2 times their GDP in debt themselves.

Bernanke’s printing press will be in competition with Japan as they try to unload the debt for reconstruction.

As the enormity of the cost of this cataclysm becomes clear, the currency markets will be very “interesting” to watch.

The Japanese are cutting edge on earthquakes and tsunami. They were PREPARED for this. But no matter how prepared, you can be overwhelmed. And they were.

Had this been any other country, even ours, I believe the destruction and loss of life would have been ten fold.

No one will ever know or be able to calculate the final tally, but in my humble opinion, the Japanese were about as well prepared as any country could be. This whole thing just points up to the true nature of God and the universe.
