Japanese Co. Develops Material Two-Times Harder and Faster-Curing Than Concrete

A Japanese company has developed a material that cures within one minute and has a tensile strength more than two times that of concrete. For cities affected by natural disaster, this “CO2 Structure” could help reconstruction happen faster.
Concrete usually takes 28 days to cure to its full strength. By blowing CO2 into silica, TIS Partners LTD was able to make the silica into a substance as hard as brick, as reported by DigInfo TV (via Gizmodo). TIS Partners President Norihide Imagawa said they then increased strength by adding epoxy or urethane.
See how CO2 Structure is made in this video (video will begin after an ad):
With a building life of about 50 years, TIS Partners suggests CO2 Structure be used to reinforce existing buildings, in addition to as a quick restoration material. The company plans to show it’s first model of CO2 Structure as a double dome large enough to hold 125 people at the UIA World Congress at the Tokyo International Forum September 25.

Posted on August 11, 2011 at 6:30amWhen the Japanese say they have invented a new product, it is not new, but merely a different method of assembly.
Report Post »One of the materials used in concrete today is a byproduct of electric fired furnaces. It is silica fume.
The addition of epoxy to the product enhances the strength.
Epichlorohydrin resin was toyed with in the United States in the late 20’s.
In reinforced concrete, carbon steel is in tension with concrete being in compression, this method uses the same basic principle using the epoxy ‘skin’.
This ‘new’ product could be a potential building block, but the addition of resin might make it flammable.
And, don’t let the EPA know there’s carbon in any of this!

Posted on August 11, 2011 at 3:47amthis material is not all that “new”. been done……… and innovation USED to happen here because our regs allowed people to proceed on a project, and capital to pay for it was available. That has been slowly taken away. Regs/capital investment punishment by government has strangled the USA. So, America feeds off its past glory while that glory is being re-written to have no glory in the first place. Welcome to Carter, Obama, H. Clinton and – name them – version of the world. A dark, crappy place where they can rule. Sort of like Satan saying Hell ain’t so bad, at least he is the king there.

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 8:23pmIt is a shame that we let EPA, Unions and such stop the progress of cheap safe homes. In my travels I have seen 2 and 3 bedroom homes built for less then $10,000.00. Some say it is not possible but anybody care to bet me? Our problem is the cost. By the time you have the raw material gone through the process of all union trades, all of the permits and other costs that the City, State and Feds have applied from beginning to end your cost has gone up a thousand fold. I‘m still young enough to remember in the 60’s when you could buy a house for 22 to 35 thousand and support a family on what you made. Now with unions and Governments demanding wages and permits they want it takes two people working to even think of buying a home. In 1972 I purchased a new car with all of the goodies for $3,600.00, that now cost in the 30′s. It is because again from begining to end the cost has risen because of the Regs and Unions. In 1965 it cost me less the 400 for the hospital for my daughter. You can’t walk in the door for that now. I made a good wage and was able to feed and house my family of 5 with just watching what we purchased. We were able to have a small vacation each year besides the side trips to beach etc. I have not had a vacation for over 30 years now as it takes every dime to live. Try buying material and building a pateo cover with out a permit and see how fast you go to court. I’m sick and tired of the BS. The material is out there but we will never see it.

Posted on August 11, 2011 at 12:05amI always tried to come up with an idea for silica. I thought about making building blocks out of ceramic like the same materials they make ceramic baseball bats out of. Since sand is one of the most abundant sources on earth, plus, the cool hot properties of it, and strength being greater than steel. It appears the Japanese figured this one out. I always used to dream about inventions all of my life. darrn — there goes my million dollar idea… lol

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 6:30pmThere was a large firm named ACCO “aerated concrete company” here in Florida , they made concrete building blocks that had amazing insulating properties ,, they never really caught on as retraining the Mexican block work crews was too much of a hassle. Their factory is sitting empty and for sale .. There are lots of great ideas , not all of them work or succeed , sometimes simply due to timing.

Report Post »Just remember, the EPA was created illegally. The regulations put forth by this agency was/is trying to put smaller companies out of business, while the larger businesses are prohibited from working inside the US. So the bigger businesses just move to other countries with less regulations. Tada! The fall of the United States of America. Pretty soon we’ll all be living in a “wildlife preserve.”
Agenda 21 and the destabilization of the greatest country on earth.

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 5:27pmAre you kidding? Innovation happens all over the world. It’s a fact that the U.S. excelled at this for the past 100+ years. But, no one‘s claimed that we’ve been the only ones to do so. And certainly the Japanese have historically been right there at the top. The problem is, the EPA, IRS, DoE and a thousand other alphabet soup agencies have made us less efficient, less well educated, and generally less motivated to do the kind of R&D that leads to advances like this. I can’t beleive I responded to a troll. Ugh. It must really be a bad day.
