Rev. Jesse Jackson addressed a crowd of Occupy London protesters Thursday, during which he said Jesus, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela were all Occupiers.

Rev. Jesse Jackson told a crowd of Occupy London protesters that they’re in good company as their demonstrations stretch past the two-month mark, because Jesus was an Occupier as well.

“Jesus was an Occupier, born under a death warrant, a Jew by religion, born in poverty under Roman occupation,” Jackson told the 200-person crowd in front of St. Paul’s Cathedral Thursday, MSNBC reported. ”Gandhi was an Occupier, Martin Luther King was an Occupier, [Nelson] Mandela was an Occupier.”

London’s Occupy movement has been going strong since October, camping out on the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Jackson urged them to hold strong to their convictions, insisting that King would absolutely support the movement if he were still alive, according to French news agency AFP.

“If Dr. King was here today, he’d be occupying. Occupying is a just cause, a moral cause,” said Jackson, who was an aide to the late civil rights leader.

That King would have approved of the Occupy Wall Street movement is a call that was heard during the dedication of his national memorial in Washington, D.C. in October.

Leading the crowd in a chant of “Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive!” Jackson’s speech touched on other familiar themes of poverty, capitalism and homelessness, the Telegraph reported.

“We need a new bank policy, we have lost checks and balances in the system,” he said. “The Occupy cause is a moral cause, a global spirit. It‘s a just cause and they shouldn’t be dismissed but heard.”

      Mmmm I gonna have to say NO on this. Don’t think Jesus would be too crazy about people taking dumps in public, sexual assaults, thefts, fighting, destruction of public/private property, foul language, general aura of hate within the occupy crowd. Yes Jesus tossed a few tables over but wasnt that because they were in a place for worship?!! Last time I checked from Zuccotti Park in NYC to Whole Foods in Oakland none of these occupy places are places of worship.. legitimate worship, so there is no excuse or justification for all the deviant behavior..

      Jesse Jackson is a shameful poor excuse of a human being; as for his comment on MLK I doubt the Dr. would be too happy about occupy either for all the same reasons above.

      You are not listening to what Rev Jackson said, again the Blaze is taking what he said entirely out of context.

      Rev. Jackson is right Jesus Rivera did participate in the Occupy LA movement, Jesus set up a tent for about a week, until someone came by and offered him a drywall job. Jesus from what I heard, is now up in San Francisco hanging out in front of Lowes, he will stay up there because he is gauranteed over $10 an hour and no deportation.

      Jesus is definetely an Occupier.

      Why would Jesus teach calmness and withholding violence, but show physical violence? Or is it that with his words Jesus kicked out the legs of their tables which made them tumble? Case in point if the money changers of Wall Street have built their tables on the legs of creators, and the creator’s motivation is burned up, then essentially the tables of Wall street will come tumbling down.

      You will know false teachers by their words. This is partly what is referred to as the spirit of the antichrist. Jesus said his Kingdom was not of this earth. He did not challenge the earthly rulers (Romans), but the religious hypocrites in charge of the synagogues. That is exactly what Jesse Jackson (I will never call him ‘reverend’) is. The early Christians didn’t protest Rome; they went to the lion’s willingly, even eagerly! (See Eusebius’s The Church History). Jackson is all about this world with his mistresses and money and seeking fame and power. Augustine would have wept for him (see Confessions).

It is in the mountains of people that wealth has been buried, and the people are becoming complacent in drive, and now all the bonds of nations are becoming worthless just as it says they will bury their gold in the mountains only to find it worthless.

      Any group (as in) OWS, tea party conservatives, or Hitler‘s NAZI’s – Any group; that violates the law, camps out the longest, pees in public, rapes and steals, threatens, and interrupts commerce and interferes with the free movement of law abiding citizens, and endangers their own small children….

      that;s all it takes to get what you want…. I thought we had a system in place to deal with dis-agreements, and thus help prevent the disintegration into chaos….at the hands of the most current, organized and well financed mob with a grievance.

      There is a law that was passed under Clinton, that everytime anyone who is pale in complextion, that uses the N word in public or makes a stereotype fauxpas, must go to Atlanta, walk in shame to Jackson’s house, and toss his salad. If you notice, since that law has been passed, the only ones keeping the N word alive is rappers, they only have to kiss Jackson’s left butt cheek. I would think that would have been one of the first things Bush repealed when he had full control of Congress, but Jackson did allow an amendment to the law, that every third offender had to go hunting with Dick Cheney.

      He’s wrong. Jesus worked for the money changers in the Temple to supplement his income as a carpenter. Jesus loved the “richest among us” and believed that they should decide what is right for the world. He didn’t say devoting your life to profiting from the loss of others was wrong. He said the “love” of money was wrong. That’s different. Christ was in fact a conservative and believed that, as did his disciple Ayn Rand, that we’re all on our own and that whatever riches you can bring to yourself are yours and yours alone no matter who stepped on to get them. That’s the ideal superman or woman of the Christian religion. Donate some to the poor, sure whatever, but the road to Heaven is by following in the footsteps of Christ Almighty.

      No I’m serious KAdams! If Jesus were alive today he’d vote for politicians who give tax cuts to the rich and balance the books by shifting the tax burden to the middle class and poor. He, Christ, would be in favor of eliminating social programs that help the poor because He knows that‘s not government’s role (he never said it was right?). Jesus himself would appreciate and bless the fact that the rich are becoming richer than ever than before, and the rest of America is becoming poorer.

      Jesus himself would recognize that is the natural order, the shift of wealth upward and reduction of wealth on the rest. Jesus himself taught to render to the rich their due.

      And that all that stuff Jesus said about the poor? Assuming he wasn’t joking, I guess he meant that, while as a country we should not be required to help our own, the people who go to church ought to take a casserole over to their poor neighbor. And in that way, the poor and destitute, absent help from the government, will survive, and prosper. Because Christians are just that giving.

      You are correct. Mr. Jackson never finished seminary. In fact, he was a seminary dropout, and was awarded an honorary theological doctorate at a later date. He was ordained sans degree.

      I would certainly not call Jackson a person that has any grounding academically in theology. Of course, this does not stop a number of prominent religious…..personalities from claiming they are religious experts.

      By the way, have you noticed that the folks that have the least rigourous demands for their degrees, seem to be the most likely to demand they be addressed by a title (reverend, Dr. etc.)? Frankly, the folks with the PhD’s in Physics, Chemical Engineering, and other hard sciences were the least likely to expect people to address them as Dr.. While they had to study their butts off to get the degrees, they generally had the attitude that it was just something they had to do to get their jobs. Something to consider, when folks start tossing around titles.

      Won’t go into detail about your mischaracterization about Jesus and charity other than you will not find once in the bible Jesus advocating of government seizing wealth to dole out in the form of charity. There is nothing righteous about forced charity. It’s a condition of your heart, but you know that.

      Most people see without mischaracterizations and class warfare democrats would have nothing to run on. You know BO will not be running on accomplishments due to their vast unpopularity. So I would like you to clear a few things up if you would. Please explain why you argue against “tax cuts for the rich” in the context they got a break the rest didn’t.

      Also, please explain why you think it is intellectually honest to mischaracterize Jesus’s (someone you don’t believe in) words to support an idea the founders rebuked, redistribution of wealth, while arguing for abortion.

      It seems like sin is an acceptable personal choice when it comes to abortion but not for charity through the hands of government. Please explain why your fine with abortion but don’t think people should be legally allowed to sin (in you opinion) by keeping more of their money.

      Also, I am in contact with the guinness book of records to see what the current record is for holding views contrary our founders. You should be a shoe in.

    First of all if Jesus went down to the low laying valley of the occupiers “To save them” Jesus would know exactly why he was there if someone asked him. Second, Jesus would tell the occupiers (many of whom have money) to sell all their things and follow him to prove that they would not.

      Actually whenJesus told the rich young ruler to give away all his money and follow him Jesus was proving to the rich young ruler that he lied to Jesus when he told Jesus he had kept the commandments from his youth. For we all have sinned and came short of the glory of God. The rich young ruler went away sad because he could get past his pride to confess to Jesus that he was a sinner in need of grace and mercy!

      In that the occupier class doesn’t want to generate wealth from nothingness as the way creators do, in that occupiers generate wealth from those who generate wealth from near nothingness. And when the people who generate wealth from near nothingness stop generating, then the socialist class will have near nothing, because a jugular flow of near nothing is near nothing to the vampires that suck near nothing.

      Facts first. Jesus was Galilean, not a Jew. Jesus was not from Judah and Judaism was not a religion until the completion of the Talmuds, 300-500 AD. The Pharisees, Roman appointed Caiaphas, had the Galilean put to death by Pilate.
      Second, Jesus occupied nothing. Jesus spoke truth to power. Jesus was the fringe. Jesus went against conventional wisdom.

      Jews were from Judah. Samaria was north of Judah. Galilee was north of Samaria. Jesus was not a Jew from Judah. He was not a Samaritan from Samaria. He was a Galilean from Galilee. This author is making the same mistake that many make. These provable facts speak for themselves.

      And, there was no religion called Judaism at the time of Christ. So, Jesus was not a religious Jew either. Best guess is that Jesus was an Essene.
