He’s half right government does induce poverty, but punishing the whole country for the governments wrong doing is wrong. Less government less poverty that’s easy. Why can’t the Liberals use rational thinking to come to that conclusion?

If there were no illegal aliens here, we would have no unemployment even in these bad times and businesses would be outbidding one another to get employees. I remember in the 80′s in Danbury Connecticut there was a 6 foot sign on a Burger King I used to drive by. It said “We pay $100 per shift”. Wages have been going south ever since.

I don’t think our unemployment problem is ALL illegal aliens. I‘m in a field that I highly doubt an illegal would be hired for and I’m unemployed. However, they are definitely NOT helping the situation.

Back in the 80′s when we were not so “enlightened,” there was a program called JTPA whose purpose was to provide job training and GED programs for dropouts in order to get them from welfare to work. I worked for this program in MA and great strides were being made and we had partnerships with Digital, HP, IBM, and other high tech companies. Then along came the ACLU and NAACP complaining that the program was discriminatory since it did not immediately lead to high paying jobs and instant wealth. So, the program was cancelled. I did not understand the logic then and still don’t!
Anyone else remember Rev Jackson’s beserk outbreak when Bill Cosby said during an interview that until black people stopped blaming white people for all their problems, they never would improve their lot in life?

Cosby is shunned by his peers for his views…he has been labeled a ‘sell-out’ and an ‘oreo.’

@Moonbat, I don’t think Congress intended to bankrupt the banks…as long as the economy was good and unemployment low, some of the loans would be paid and those that defaulted would be absorbed, with the costs passed on to other consumers. The economy turned, the risky loans failed and the economy got worse as a result…and we have not seen the worst yet.

The mortgage crisis was not caused by deregulation, it was caused by government interference and manipulation combined with pressure from special interest groups.

UnionRockStar: I am an interior designer and I was working in the office furniture arena of design. I designed for area hospitals, colleges, offices, churches and more. However, our area has been shrinking over the past two years. I worked for that company for almost 4 years and here is a fact that shows how great our economy is: When I started working at that company, I was one of about 30 employees, when I was laid-off, there were about 12. Sadly, this isn’t an anomaly these days.

I couldn’t imagine turning down a well-paying job to stay on unemployment. Not that I don’t like having lots of free time, but if I’m not doing anything productive with it, it’s a waste of time to me.

Computerdweller, you are partially right. If all tie illegals were removed today, there would be hundreds of jobs open. Many of those jobs would be unfilled because those who need to work the most won’t becaust they think the job is beneath them.

The “Progressives” need a large underclass of “Poor” and relatively uneducated people in order to garner votes to get them re-elected. The “Progressives” of both parties rely on those to whom they can promise maxium give outs to re-elect them over and over.

That’s why we have 3rd and 4th generation of “Professional” welfare receiptients. Government programs encourage a constant flow of “Needy”.

The only answer is WORKFARE! Now I don’t want to hurt those who are truly disabled such as qudeapeligics or the paralized. They are truly needy. I mean all those who are healthy and fit who only sit around and have many children in order to draw larger checks every month. Workfare, along with schooling and the aim for a constructive career for the poor is the only way to correct the problem.

A person who works has something to show for his or her labors. Drawing support from government doesn’t produce anything.

I’m confused…..he said that the government bails out the wealthy, which I assume he’s referring to the banks, insurance, etc., however, weren’t those entities in trouble b/c the government FORCED them to lend and insure those who couldn’t AFFORD what they were purchasing? So, doesn’t that also contribute to the poverty-stricken people?

    Am I thinking correctly here?

No Sally; you’re not confused. Our politicians are confused. They are trying to deal with a problem they have absolutely no clue as to how to go about solving. You are spot on regarding your comment on who actually put us in this situation. Now Barry is doing his best to convince us dummies that it wasn’t the governments fault but rather the banks fault. Somewhere along the line he forgot the fact that banks were forced by Barney Frank and company to issue mortgages to all who requested them and we would pickup the tab. Then to add insult to injury they used our money to bail the banks out.
I don’t know about you but, even though I’m just an average guy, I’m just about fed up with hearing about the top 1% having 50% of the wealth. They also pay the bulk of the taxes not to mention providing us with jobs. That is unless you are Rev. Jackson who is a master at the shake down game. If in fact he has so much compassion for the poverty stricken why doesn’t he lead by example and cough up a mill or so for starters instead of hiding his wealth behind a “foundation”. Has anyone noticed how many wealthy politicians use the same tactic to hide their wealth while pointing the finger at everyone else? Oh well…….we may as well get use to it; I see no end in sight.
      Vote Nov.

Sally, you’re not confused. You’ve been deceived. Nobody “forced” banks to give loans to anybody. Those banks made buckets of cash on those loans, which they chopped up and repackaged as derivatives. Poor people lose their homes, the taxpayer gets bilked, and the CEOs walk away with giant bonuses. And none of it would have been possible without thirty years of banking deregulation.

Moonbat, I’m pretty sure that the government came down on banks, who refused to loan people unable to repay the loans, and MADE them give the loans. Houses were able to be purchased without any money down. Seriously?! How is that a good idea? If a bank looks at someone’s finances and determines them to be a bad risk, they should have the right to refuse a loan. It’s just COMMON SENSE!

We‘re not talking about loaning money to someone who’s fallen on hard times and might not be able to pay you back. I’ve loaned money to people knowing full-well that I would not see a dime of it back. However, I loaned it b/c I knew they needed it more than I did. That‘s how it’s supposed to work. Your friends, neighbors, and community should rally around you to help you out and NOT the government.

We are talking about those who cannot afford a house, but can certainly afford an apartment and should do so b/c it is what they can AFFORD.

My grandfather begrudgingly took help for coal to heat the house when my mom was younger b/c he was injured at work and wasn’t getting paid. However, he knew his wife and children took precedence over his pride, so he accepted the help. He wanted to work for everything he had and didn’t dare think of taking a handout from anyone!

      Watch this video:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivmL-lXNy64
Around 3:11 is a great soundbite: Paraphrasing here “We expect a high rate of default on these loans.

@UnionRockStar: I agree with you on the richest 1% malarky. What people don’t understand is that, yes they have A LOT of money, but if the majority of it is taken away in taxes, then they will be more likely to hold on to what’s left. Thereby, limiting the amount of money they put into their businesses for expansion, higher wages, bonuses, perks, what have you, which leads to pay decreases (which I’ve had), lay-offs (which I am currently), and a shrinkage of business.

Some people need to review the Law of Supply and Demand. I think it applies here with wealth. Being in the USA, we all have a right to attain as little or as much wealth as we can. There is NO LIMIT! We are all CREATED EQUAL! Which is not to say that we all MUST BE MADE equal.

We’re all told “life isn’t fair.” Yet, are first to claim that something isn’t fair when it happens to us. Life ISN’T fair, but it should be JUST. There IS a difference and it’s not just semantics!

      Ok…off my soapbox for a bit. :)

Sally, check out the amounts of money mentioned in your video, then compare to the size of the bailout. And think about it — does it make sense to you that Congress (whose largest campaign contributer was and is the financial industry) would require the banks to bankrupt themselves by giving money to poor people?

Follow the money, Sally. We’re getting ripped off, and it isn’t going to the poor.

C.S. SALLY: You are correct about banks being forced into giving loans to people who would never be able to pay them back. Remember REDLINING???
To the repubs credit, they tried multiple times to have Fanny and Freddy investigated for financial problems…BUT EVERY TIME THOSE EFFORTS WERE VOTED DOWN BY A DEMOCRAT CONGRESS…which included a Senator Barry Obama at the time. Funny how that works out. As for the banks bundling these bad mortgages and selling them to Fanny and Freddy… it was legal, and they were being told that Fanny and Freddy were in good shape….by Frank and Dodd right up to the point where both institutions collapsed of their own weight of bad paper! I can’t really blame the banks so much as I can CONGRESS for setting up the conditions for it. The banks had to have some means of getting rid of the bad paper they were forced to take, otherwise they would have gone out of business too!

Yes Redd, The food is thrown out, the new subsidized housing is trashed, the bridge cards are used at Casinos, the food stamps are sold for money to buy drugs, the mortgages are foreclosed (after the houses are trashed) the emergency rooms are used for earaches and sore throats. You didn‘t mention free taxi’s to get them to work and appointments, free birth control and abortions, free Viagra, free education and special tutoring, free counseling and job training (for jobs that don’t exist), government jobs, money for voter registrations and votes, free food and transportation to protest, not Federal Income taxes. Just to name a few more and the list goes on. These people aren’t poor, they are the Gimmie Generation. They are usually drawing SSI which averages between 13,000 and 15,000 a year or more depending on how many children and any disabilities. Poor is no food, no money for rent, no tv,cell phone, xbox, designer clothes, gold/diamond jewelry, new cars, money for drugs and alcohol, tattoos, etc. Like the poor you see in Africa, Shacktown in Brazil, India. We should get the liberals out of office so the Republicans can create jobs and then their parents can go to work and buy their glasses. This government has produced more poverty than any government before them. As far as dental goes. Just wait a couple of years if we don’t get Obamacare repealed and they will have to get their own dental. What we need is jobs and less government handouts. That’s the problem now with America is that people are wanting more and more handouts instead of working for what they get. I am getting close to the retirement age. But it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if they did raise the age to 70 or more. We have so many people on welfare and medicaid now that its bankrupting the country. In the dust bowl days when they finally found jobs some of them had to travel a 1000 miles in order to go to work. Because there wasn’t any unemployment. Let’s get back to those days.

Why should Jesse work when he lives off the “Donations” of thousands of poverty stricken people and “Donations” obtained by coersion from major corporations?

He’s got a gravy trai and he knows it.

    Think about this …..

Nobody has ever been able to determine where that statement actually came from. It’s not in any of the writings of either Twain or Lincoln. Plenty of rumors about who first coined the phrase, but nothing to indicate that any of them are true.

Well, for Jesse it’s a living – stirring up the anger, resentment and victim mentality.

Such a waste of human potential. (the AM populace – not Jesse)

You would think they would want their dignity – but I guess anger is easier.

The Government does induce poverty, They give foodstamps to people who are capable of working, give them money for school so they can get other girls pregnant and keep them selves on welfare so that their children will not want to work either. I think He got a point lets get rid of the Government special aid programs and welfare so that the Black Race can get over themselves. Not a racist statement

government subsidizes poverty. they keep raising the income levels because wages arent rising along with inflation. This is why you can have a person making 50000 a year collecting food stamps and medicaid. Even in prerecession times they could collect these benefits and it stifles their drive to succeed. Why take a promotion that pays much better if by taking that promotion they lose more in government benefits then they are recieving from the company?

Jesse “ Reverend ” Jackson learned little or nothing from his mentor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement of the 60′s. He lacks the integrity of those who spend their lives working for the rights and dignity of a people. However, he has all the characteristics of those who line their own pockets through the sacrifice and suffering of others. His remarks about Presidential candidate Barack Obama, when he thought the microphone was off, revealed his true character.

poverty level for a family of four is around $22,000 a year. If you work the system you can get welfare, food stamps, medical care, possible housing and childcare while still making $22,000 i am unsure if we can call that poverty. I know several people that work the system in this degree… each of the husband and wife have went to college fully funded by the government as well.
