‘Jesus: Prophet of Islam’ — New Muslim Bus Ads to Debut in Australia

If you ask the organization Mypeace in Australia, Jesus wasn’t God, but he was a good prophet of Islam. That’s just one of the messages the group is set to debut on Australian buses in September. And it’s just one of the messages already plastered on billboards around Sydney.

As CNS News reports, “roadside billboards in the metropolitan Sydney area carry one of four simple slogans: ‘Jesus: A Prophet of Islam,‘ ’Holy Qur’an: The Final Testament,‘ ’Muhammad: Mercy to Mankind‘ and ’Islam: Got Questions? Get Answers.’

Now, those posters have now been adapted, and will appear on the outside of Sydney buses this fall:

“Mypeace.com.au a Muslim Organisation based in Sydney is launching a bold venture and the first of its kind in its public awareness campaign by placing ads about Islam on Sydney buses,” the group’s site explains. “Starting on September 27th of May 2011, for four weeks, several buses in Sydney will start carrying messages on the religion of Islam. Each ad will invite interested individuals to call MyPeace’s toll free number … and converse live with a Muslims to ask questions about Islam; request a free copy of the Quran and Islamic literature.”

The group adds that the bus ads will appear on the backs and sides of 40 buses traveling throughout Sydney.

But the ads are causing quite a stir. One billboard claiming Jesus is a prophet of Islam has already been vandalized, and now an Australian bishop is speaking out.

CNS News reports:

“In Australia with its Christian heritage a billboard carrying the statement ‘Jesus A prophet of Islam’ is provocative and offensive to Christians,” Julian Porteous, auxiliary bishop at the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, responded in an article.

“Central to Christianity is the belief that Jesus Christ is more than a prophet,” he said. “He is the Son of God. He is acclaimed Lord and Savior of humanity. This statement is a direct assault on Christian beliefs.”

Porteous said religions should not “set out to antagonize those with differing beliefs.”

“Dialogue between the religions can only take place when it is founded in mutual respect. It is not fostered by provocative statements.”

Porteous urged Mypeace to withdraw the ads.

Considering the tenants of the Christian faith, and what Islam believes about Jesus, the group‘s claims are not in line with Christianity’s understanding of Jesus. For example, as CNS points out, Islam denies Christ’s “divinity, crucifixion, and resurrection.”

Still, in a video posted on Mypeace’s website, it claims that Islam is the “religion of Jesus and Moses:”

    Jesus a prophet against ISLAM. For didn;t Jesus himself says John the Baptist the GREATEST Prophet of ALL. Didn’t John the baptist say Jesus is the Lamb of God? Where is muhammad? in a the desert 700 years later in which Jesus said many will come in MY NAME and saying he is out in the DESERT, this is a false prophet and an anti-christ. Let’s put that on a bus!

    I don’t have a problem with it, as long as the buses also carry signs that say muhammad was a false prophet and the quran is the Devil’s book! Oh, I also want a physical depiction of muhammad boinking a donkey, or vice versa, either way I’m sure both took place.

    Why is it that even here in the United States our officials bend over backwards not to say or do anything that might possibly offend Muslims and strongly condemn those who do while at the same time the Muslims can say or do anything against Christians and nothing is said?       I didn’t read the link….I assume you are speaking of fellow Jews watching him die. Now, think of how many times that you know of in history that Jews have been persecuted. Do you think that possibly it is an eye for an eye? It has happened through out history. Do some research. I am not a prophet by far, but it seems strange that it has followed them throughout history since then, it’s right there in front of us all to see. God is a loving God, but he did not approve of how his son was treated either and he also believed an eye for an eye. I can‘t say that it should last for century’s because, who am I to judge, if that is what is being done….and besides that God’s minute could be 100 years to us…there are a lot of things we just don’t understand. I could be totally wrong, but as soon as I read what you were writing, this is what I thought of. How they treated him and then, how they have been done over the years. God bless.

    This has always been an argument that amazes me. Jesus was a good prophet. What did Jesus prophesied?? He said he was indeed the Son of God. So he was either an insane man or a liar, He can’t be both a prophet and a liar at the same time!

      Buy yourself a prophesy study Bible and you can read all about it, one prophesy that comes to mind is the destruction of the Second Temple when He said that the current generation would not die out before the Temple fell and not a stone would remain laying atop another stone. I didn‘t use quotes because it’s off the top of my head, but about 30-40 years after He rose the Temple did fall.

      BUT, don’t be too quick to condem this….from what I understand, Australia has had a big influx of muslims into their country too. Far too many people have been told that the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the same god as Allah and too many just said “Oh well, OK….” We have churches here that have locked arms with this faith..because they don’t know how different the two faiths are.

      They must know the truth, maybe this will make them do the research. Look how much we have discussed the differences between the two faiths here on this board….look how much more we know than we did a few years ago. And since we know the truth, we will not be deceived! We already know that their “Jesus” real name is Isa……..and the son of GOD’s Hebrew name is Yeshua….not Isa.

      Faith has been manipulated by men in power using the church as a political powerbase. Killing for the church and killing for the Christ are most certainly two VERY different matters. Hell, the argument can be made that in addition to the material greed and desire for European expansionism that fueled the LONG stretch of history known as the Crusades, that enduring conflict was also a response to Muslim greed and expansionism. I’m not defending either religion or their respective bastards, but you’re generalizing. People kill each other over pork chops, pride and politics. Which of those merit your disdain?
      I readily assert from my knowledge of Islam that it’s purpose for being is to rally people of faith around a religion that calls for expansionism and subjugation (hence the name of the religion which translates to “to submit”). Please, compare the military exploits of Christ the man to ol’ Mo of the cave. One led by the sword ’til his death, one ended up passively on a rood w/a spear in his guts.
      Me, I loathe organized religion. It tends to corrupt faith, but that‘s just one man’s opinion. You can believe as you will. I‘d just ask that you consider the influence of both religions in comparing general freedoms and tolerances across the globe by the countries who’ve been influence by Christianity vs. Islam. The differences are stark, yes?

      I think the choice is pretty clear. The problem with Christianity are that imperfect people try to be like Jesus imperfectly. The problem with Islam is Islam. Do a study on the reliability of the New Testament versus the Qu‘ran and see what an utter farce the Qu’ran is. When you reach the conclusion that the New Testament is more reliable than the Qu’ran, you will see the Jesus of Islam is not the Jesus of history.

      Islam is a lie from the beginning and has deceived many people. That people practice Islam peacefully is a testament to the dominant Christian influence in that culture. Where Islam dominates Islam is a citadel of oppression.

      I take offense at that but that’s all apart of living in a free society. Anyone see what they’ve done to Dr. Frederick Tobien in Australia for questioning the commonly accepted version of the Holocaust? I used to work with muslims and half the time they talked sht about the United States and the other half was spent trying to indoctrinate me with islam.
