‘Jesus Was a Commie’ Director Defends Rev. Wright & Dan Savage on Twitter: ‘Rev Wright Was Addressing Sins of U.S. Past’

In November, we told you about actor Matthew Modine and his short film, “Jesus Was a Commie” — a movie that asserts that Christ was a communist. On Sunday the performer, seemingly looking for a way to amp up controversy, took to Twitter to defend the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and sex advice guru Dan Savage — two figures who have caught fire for controversial words and statements.

The social media drama started yesterday when Breitbart.com Editor-at-Large Ben Shapiro Tweeted, “Who is going to ask Obama about the WH’s close association with @fakedansavage. Calling @jaketapper…” The message was in reference to the White House’s close-knit ties to Savage, who came under fire this week for calling Christian high school students “pansy asses.” As we noted yesterday, the gay rights advocate has a history of troubling language.

In response to this initial tweet, Modine slammed Shapiro‘s message about examining Obama’s relationship to Savage with a racially-charged allegation. His message back read, “Who is going to ask #Romney about discrimination toward ‘dark skinned people’?”
Clearly, this message was an attack on Romney’s Mormon faith. Modine, based on his messages, seemed to be referencing a policy that once barred African Americans from serving as Mormon priests — a regulation that was lifted decades ago. A subsequent dialogue back and forth reads as follows:

When another Twitter user weighed in to claim that there’s no evidence Romney has every discriminated based on race, writing, “No evidence @MittRomeny has ever discriminated by race. Now about Obama’s racist Rev. Jeremiah Wright…,” Modine defended Wright.
“Rev wright was addressing sins of US past. Manifest Destiny. Slavery. Murder of millions of Natives,” he Tweeted.
Clearly flabbergasted that Modine would defend Wright, Shapiro jumped back into the discussion, writing, “You’re seriously defending Jeremiah Wright? Really?” Modine, of course, wasn’t coy, as he responded with, “Are you seriously defending racism, and denying the lives of those murdered and enslaved? Dont Christian’s acknowledge error?”

Modine made his comments clear on the matter, as he railed against Romney and defended Wright and Savage. Certainly an interesting stance to take, considering the disparaging words coming from both of these individuals.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 8:49amHistoric morons. Rome was a Facist, Communist state at the time of Christ. Everything was owned by the state. In the Book of Acts, two new members of the Church, Annias and Saphira, who had been followers of an Emperor cult which demanded gifts to the divine Emperor with nothing held back, in return for favors from the gods, gave only part of the proceeds from a parcel of land they had sold. When Peter confronted them they dropped dead from fear, much to Peter’s suprise. You see they had not yet learned that Jesus would show them mercy and that they could’ve given any part they wanted of their own Free Will without fear of reprisal. But they were still operating under the old Roman system of fear and fully expected to be punished by the gods and as a result they died of fear. This is the system the progressive want us to live under, but Jesus came to break that grip of fear. That’s why the State of Rome was so afraid of Christianity as were the communist of the Soviet Union and are the communist of China.

Report Post »Ben Shapiro, buddy, you’re mud-wrestling with a proverbial pig.
Anyone who claims my Lord supports communism understands neither Christianity NOR communism.
Christ wanted INDIVIDUALS to take care of the poor, because when charity is in the heart, both the donor and the receiver are blessed for the giving. When the govt enforces “charity” through taxes or even more forceful means, they remove the connection of sacrifice from the donor, and remove the connection of caring from the receiver. Neither party grows spiritually from the arrangement. and even THAT is only when the system of giving WORKS. In the final analysis, Margaret Thatcher was right: the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money. The prosperous are driven from their means of being charitable and the poor grow in number and need until the system collapses under the weight of its own immorality.

Ron Paul just won the States of Iowa, Minnesota, Washington, Alaska, Massachusetts, Louisiana and picked up 200 new delegates. So now Pauls Delegate count as of 4/30/10 is 391 + 200 = [ 591 ].
There are still 14 more state GOP primaries to go with most of them being Ron Paul states like TX, Cali., WV, NC, KT, etc.
The REAL Delegate counts… as of 4/10/12
Romney= 601
Paul= 391
Santorum= 197
Gingrich= 77
When Santorum officially drops out of the race the delegate count will look like this…
Romney= 661
Paul=518
Gingrich= 87
In 1920 Harding went to the GOP convention with the lest amount of delegates and walked out with the GOP nomination.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 9:35amHey Treb, you’ve got it wrong. You need to reread those passages again and tell me where Peter was shocked at what happened. It implies that Peter was well aware of what was going to happen….” the men who carried out your husband are here to carry you out , too. Posted on April 30, 2012 at 10:06amPlease excuse my hasty agreement with Treb. He’s still mostly right about Rome as a proto-fascistic power at the time, and he’s all right about Modine being a historical idiot.
Report Post »But Gsplgtr is right about the exegesis.
Treb’s gone extra-biblical with dubious sources.
After a review myself, of the last verses of Acts 4 and the opening verses of Acts 5, it’s clear that the church members DID INDIVIDUALLY and VOLUNTARILY give up and/or sell their possessions for the purpose of offering them to the poor through the Church’s administration.
The individual and voluntary parts of this are what strongly, clearly, and obviously distinguish this form of charity from communism, however.
Ananias and Sapphira had conspired to cheat the Church AFTER having become members and agreed of their FREE WILL to give their riches to the Church for the poor. This dishonesty is the sin they were punished by God with death for, not for some cult worship as Treb would have it or some failure to become “communist” as Modine would spin it.
In any case, the “distribution” made was done not by bureaucratic fiat, but by discussion between an individual for his own family, and a representative of Christ with a link of revelation with God to discern needs together. This is so far from the Communist model, with its massive bureaucracies, legendary tin-ear to the needs of the people, and secret police to enforce it all–that any comparison is laughable.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 2:56pmSocialism, fascism, monarchy, or totalitarian; these are forms of government. Communism is a social structure absent of formal governance and is essentially democratic. The societal blueprint in the Torah and the gospels is Altruistic Communism; Love your friend as yourself, one for all, all for one. The social structure of America, secured by her laws of private property, is that of,”whats mine is mine and whats yours is yours;” the same as sodom and gemorrah, Babylon…
Report Post »Of course, Altruistic Communism only works when humanity has undergone the final correction, subdued the evil inclination, thus changing his nature to be closer to the Creator. But the path of pain for the nations of the world requires that they learn this through experience; they must learn by pain.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 10:59pmAt the time of Christ, Rome was a republic in name only; the popular assembly had no power whatever and hadn’t for a very long time . The ‘legislative’ branch of Rome was the Senate, which was populated by too rich and too power hungry idiots who had drunk too much lead laced wine to have any common sense left. ( It reminds one of another Senate today….) Julius Caesar had essentially put a practical end to the Roman republic and every caesar subsequent to him built on his sucess as it were. Tiberias was Emporer at the time of Christ and was no kind politician, and certainly didn’t waste his time on “hope and change”.
Report Post »Incidentally it is spurious to use the records in the book of Acts to justify any style of communism, as communism has at its core a denial of any deity but man himself. Jesus Christ repeatedly claimed to be the Son of God and that truth is vehemently fought by EVERY communist regime that has ever existed, either ancient as one poster has claimed all the way down to China which imprisons any and all who openly profess Jesus Christ as Lord. I have personally met those who risked their very lives in Romania under communist rule, and would never put forth to them the stupid view that Jesus Christ was a communist. He was and is the living Son of God and soon coming King.

Posted on May 1, 2012 at 4:23amNo, I totally get Acts. The thing is, you’re claiming that they willfully and gladly gave their belongings. However, you’ve directly ignore that this was “Jesus, hence God” TELLING THEM to do this, hence the quote. A higher authority is telling someone to put their stuff in a pile, to take each according to his need, and they are gladly doing it, because they buy the guy…right? Same thing with communism…to an extent at least. I don’t think actually people living under Communism want to give their stuff for a pile for everyone to take from. Communism, however, hasn’t ever actually taken place. No government, despite what they call themselves, has ever given it back to the people…they’ve stayed in the Socialist phase. Despite what you conservatives think though, us liberals, including your lovable resident liberal jerk…me, doesn’t like either one of those. Capitalism with someone watching to make sure the corporations don’t abuse the system and the people, hence a little bit of regulation and oversight, is the preferred method. I think most of us agree with that, right? You don’t want babies at Wal Mart right? It is just how much that is the argument. It really isn’t a huge gap folks…we just need to talk and act like grown ups. Don’t let yourselves be defined by the few wackjobs who are stepping up in your part lately.

Posted on May 1, 2012 at 5:14amLuke 19:11-27 Jesus says that His kingdom is based on MERIT, not “spreading the wealth around”, nor “fairness”. In fact, in this parable, the king says to his attendants, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has ten.’ But they said to him, ‘Sir, he has ten minas already!’ ‘I tell you that everyone who has will be given more, but from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.”
Sounds like the opposite of Communism to me.
“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.” ~ JESUS (Revelation 22:12)
“For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.” ~ JESUS (Matthew 16:27)

Posted on May 1, 2012 at 11:11amTexasbeta, you are wrong:
http://www.scaruffi.com/politics/romans.html
In BC 48, Julius Ceaser declared himself the sole dictator of Rome. The Roman Empire was a dictatorship after that, where the senate ceased having any real power. The enormous debt of the Empire lead to, get this, austerity measures because the empire controlled the grain supply and had complete authority over the exporting of cash crops such as olives.
The debt was so bad during jesus’s time, that when Tiberius was assassinated AD 37, Caligula (Little Boots) became emperor and actually did extreme things to try and deal with the national debt.
So, no, Rome ceased being a republic for at least 60 years, and in spirit was not a republic since probably around the time of Marius, when Jesus began his ministry.

Posted on May 1, 2012 at 8:31pmAlways fun to watch ignorant liberals like Texasbeta implode. According to Wikipedia, “In 27 BC Octavian was granted the use of the names ”Augustus“ and ”Princeps” indicating his primary status above all other Romans, and he adopted the title “Imperator Caesar” making him the first Roman Emperor.[199]” This signaled the end of the republic and the beginning of the empire.
Texasbeta’s ignorance continues by ignoring that charity in the New Testament was always voluntary. The key passage in the case of Ananias is in verse 4 “While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control?” He had no obligation to give any of it. Paul reinforces this in 2 Cor. 9:7, “Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
But the most egregious error Modine and Texasbeta commit is associating Jesus with communism. No philosophy in human history has killed more innocent Christians than communism. In no way would Jesus EVER associate himself with a philosophy that has killed so many of his followers.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 8:18amIt’s funny how communists, who are Godless by their own proclamation, point to Jesus to justify their communism. They usually point to the scriptures in the book of Acts that state how the believers had “all things in common”. It goes to their misinterpretation of the bible, more to the point, to fit their template. The church “having all things in common” was VOLUNTARY, not mandatory. People of the church sold their possessions as they were led( by the Holy Spirit) and distributed to those who needed. In the Bible context is important. Peter the Apostle when confronting Annanius asked him “was the land not yours”? Notice Peter did not say OURS( ie; to the people of the church) Peter also asked the same thing of the monies that were collected from the property, “was it not YOURS?”. So the Church was not communistic in the sense of the word that socialists would want you to believe..
